We had been hesitant to report on this until it had been officially confirmed. And now it has.
Sadly, Kanye West's mother, Donda West, passed away Saturday in Los Angeles, the rapper's publicist said late Sunday.
We had heard a rumor that Donda died while having plastic surgery, but that is just a rumor at this point.
West's publicist did not reveal a cause of death.
Donda West recently released a book about her son called Raising Kanye: Life Lessons From The Mother Of A Hip-Hop Superstar.
A former English professor, Donda was very close to Kanye, most recently working as his manager and for his companies.
So sad.

First and foremost - my condolenses to Kanye and his family. I am NOT a fan of Kanye, but he's lost someone that was probably the most precious thing in his life. A mother is sacred, and to those ignorant people posting thoughtless and cruel comments, you really have to respect whatsoever. I am having a hard time understanding how some of you can rejoice or even say horrible things towards someone's death. Talking about her looks or even saying Kanye deserved this because of his persona is soooo CRUEL. This woman had allot of character and was a great mom to her son (from what we can tell). My aunt died as a result of a tummy tuck in March of this year. These surgeries are not safe at all, more at risk than anything. It sucks that some of you wont show any respect towards this. When you loose a loved one ie. a parent, you'll feel the pain then. Show some respect!!!!
