Question

What media conglomerate that's run by idiots creates a YouTube account during a strike that has everything to do with Internet rights and fair distribution of royalties???

Fox does!

They've created this YouTube page on November 11th for their animated sitcom The Family Guy.

That's basically a huge FUCK YOU to the Writers Guild!

The writers are greedy and selfish. They are putting about 100+ people per show out of work. They can renegotiate their contracts when they are up instead of protesting. On the bright side, all the shows suck this year (except the Office and SVU) and atleast the horrible shows won't air.

Run by idiots? Sounds like a personal bias to me. The same organization that has the top rated shows, has a higher viewership than any other cable news program, and just bought the Wall Street Journal is the one Perez says is run by idiots.

Stick to Hollywood gossip Perez - you are way out of your league.

Well you know what Perez, TV SUCKS, SUCKS, SUCKS these days, and no good movies are ever made either. So if Hollywood was smart they would fire all of the shitty ass writers and start all over again. There are only like 2 semi-entertaining shows on all of television and movies are never worth going to. Why should the writers get anything else? They suck! Just because a group is in the minority or they are angry and make loud noises, doesn't mean you have to support them Perez. You're such a typical liberal, open-minded as long as it's on your own terms and you think that the stupid, useless, and poor people are always right. Writers aren't doing their job to the fullest and that's why they don't deserve anything but a pink slip. Where the fuck did work ethic go in this country? All anybody cares about is doing as little as possible and having everything handed to you. No wonder why foreigners HATE us.

And now he has the gall to talk about Fox saying Fuck You to the writers?? Fuck YOU Perez!

    56. James says – reply to this

      56

Actually, the writers guild for live action television doesn't write for animated programs. The writers for animated shows are represented by a different guild, so shows like the "Simpsons" and "Family Guy" should still be OK.

seriously, who cares. there are more important things in this world other than the writers guild. so maybe they should shut the fuck up and stop moaning. i'm sure they make quite enough money. and i'm sure there are much worse ways the could be treated or exploited. i mean seriously, there are people with no food and homes. global warming is happening, and these bitches get mad about not getting full credit. suck it. seriously, suck it.

      58

Those "poor underpaid writers" put thousands of OTHER people out of work- most of them just poorly paid assistant and attendants. What if health care workers went on strike? they DO more, take more risks and work worse hours. But because people don't DIE if writer's strike, no one cares what happens to all the people depending on employment from productions. Screw the selfish bastards. They should NOT stop writing. Assholes. And all you idiot pro union people ought to look at what this is doing to the OTHER people involved in this scenario. The ones who just do their job.

      67

Re: queso – poor simpleton. You don't understand what unions are for do you? Unions don't protect uniquely talented people. They are there to keep people out of the industry they are 'protecting'
My brother works as a nuclear physicist and there is no union in sight. Why? Because he is paid a ton because there aren't many like him. They have to pay up to compete with the other labs for his services.
Writers on the other hand literally are a dime a dozen for the most part. Sure there are some who are great, but ya know what? They all have producer credits as well and get the royalties they are claiming the untalented writers are getting screwed out of.
Seriously, go to any semi-hip club in LA on any day and shout out, 'who here wants to be a writer someday?' you will see 500 hands go up. ANYONE can be a writer, especially on a sitcom (thus why they pay the least–its mostly formula stuff anyway) That doesn't count all the people in NY, Chicago, SF etc who also toil away writing.
If the networks went to scabs and let a fresh new batch of people in, I guarantee you there would be no drop in quality. There are a surplus of writers, thus the low pay and the union to keep other people out of the industry to protect those who cracked in.

    75. Grammar Rocks says – reply to this

      75

Re: papa bear – Don't use the word "literally" if you mean something "figuratively." It makes you and everyone else who uses that word incorrectly look like an idiot. The dictionary defines "literally" as: actually; without exaggeration or inaccuracy. "Figurative" is defined as: of the nature of or involving a figure of speech; metaphorical; not literal. You said: "writers on the other hand literally are a dime a dozen for the most part." What you are saying here by using the word "literally" is that for ten cents, a person can purchase twelve scriptwriters. While that would certainly give them a good reason for a strike, it is not actually true.

    76. Grammar Rocks (cont'd) says – reply to this

      76

Re: Grammar Rocks – Another example: "I was literally dying with embarrassment" (to indicate humilliation). It would actually mean that one was physically losing their life due to the side effects of being embarrassed, which is, in all likelihood, a medical rarity. To use that phrase figuratively, to indicate extreme embarrassment, one would simply remove the word "literally". So, what you really meant by using the "dime a dozen" phrase is that there is an abundance of people (your inference = talentless hacks) working in the field of scriptwriting. I'm not arguing that point at all, I'm merely educating you and hopefully vast legions of others on the use of that word "LITERALLY." Lately, I have seen this word misused over and over again, and it has become rather irritating. I hope we all learned a little something about the English language today.

      79

Studios pony up the cash for the shows/movies in the first place, it is an investment and the writers get paid REGARDLESS of that investment paying off or not. If a show/movie bombs, the studio looses its investment, the writer STILL gets paid his original fee for the script. If its a success the writer not only gets paid a fee for the script, they also get a percentage of residuals from DVD sales etc on top (and a damn sight more then muscians or song writers get per CD). Its not like they're not getting paid at all, that is a complete bullshit misconception they want you to believe. They get paid to WRITE the scripts first and then AGAIN for residuals, they just dont make MORE money on top for new media like internet sales which are a form of syndication or DVD at the moment, which fine they should get but not to the amounts they're trying to blackmail out of the studios at the cost of the rest of the productions livelihoods.

If I were to place a bet on a horse and win, I bloody well dont expect the jockey to then come up and expect a cut of my winnings. But thats EXACTLY what the writers want.

Of course FOX would be evil to you and all your hollywood pseudo-liberals. I would love to see all you pathetic followers try to live in the real world - i.e., the rest of the world that isn't tainted by celebumorons (yes, Perez, I love u, but I have to call it when I see it). Places where the hard working people are tired of working 40 % of the year to pay for your "causes." Taxing the extremely rich doesn't hurt them. Taxing the true middle class - anyone in the 28% tax bracket - is extremely unfair, b/c they are not rich. Most of you dumbasses who will support this ridiculous strike & other hollywood "causes" don't realize you are actually considered "wealthy" as far as taxes are concerned. I know I LOVE to work so that welfare broads can continue to breed children who will grow up to rob my home. Call me names, I don't care. Someday you will see the light - unless you are too stupid or to lazy to even know the government is raping you to support a bunch of a$$holes. Darwin - where are you when the world needs you?

Re: Tami – I hear you - I lived in LA briefly and industry people are the most selfish, self-centered, scammers in the world. And Unions do everything they can to keep people out of the guild, so no wonder why our television sucks. I feel no sympathy for people who get a power trip out of keeping truly talented writers from sharing their talents with all of us. Not to mention they are paid astronomical sums. If these writers had actually saved their money, instead of spending it on coke, booze and whores, like the REST OF THE WORLD DOES - there would be no need to strike. Why is it the word self-control have no meaning/importance in LA? 3 1/2 yrs later and a move to OC, i still don't know. I'm just glad I don't have to deal with "industry people" anymore.

      99

For all the retards saying the writers are putting people out of work - name one writer who fired anyone? Oh wait, that's right - the writer's haven't fired anyone. Only the studio executives make that decision. They're holding low-level, easily replaceable workers hostage while simultaneously complaining that it's over nothing, trying to demonise the writers. It stupid and makes me regret buying all those DVDs from the greedy scumbags. I don't even care about the networks - Fox, HBO, NBC, whatever they can all suck my left one (I'm not in the USA so I don't even get these channels), but the SHOWS like Sopranos and Lost and Heroes are what I want to pay to see - and as far as I can see, all the newtworks do is get them on the air. It's the writers and actors who create them and make them what they truly are, and without these people the studios are shit. They NEED the writers, but the studios seem to have forgotten this. Hence why their so tight-fisted and focused on profit that they no longer believe writers deserve to be recognised for what they contribute. And perhaps they really have convinced themselves that people are idiots who will watch anything anyway. It could be cool - maybe TV will just die and finally give me my brain back.

      100

Writers get paid to write shows. They write the shows, they get paid. I'm a doctor. I don't get paid for every year a person I work on lives, I get paid once. The writers are the ones being greedy, they should be glad they get residuals at all. If they don't like it they should work someone else.

And as far as fags go, I have no problem with the queers, but I feel bad for those people, like Perez, who can't find anything else to identify themselves with than their love for man meat. Anyone who has to so openly and blatantly run their lives through their flaming queerness is sad. He has ad's on his site for some fag site "RealJock", that's how some of these fags (like Perez) are. Anonymous hookups with strangers on the web. Like animals, dogs who can't control themselves. This is the type of behavior he openly supports on his website.

Maybe we'll get lucky and God will strike him down with HIV and do society a favor.
