Jan Adams is the Beverly Hills plastic surgeon that performed a tummy tuck and breast reduction on Donda West before she died.
The shady doc has been sued for malpractice before and lost! TWICE!
In August of 2001 he was ordered to pay $250,000 in one claim.
In September of 2001, he was ordered to pay $217,337 in another malpractice judgment.
Additionally, Dr. Adams has been arrested for DUI. Twice!!!
On March 31, 2006, he was arrested for blowing a .10 blood alcohol level during two breath analyzer tests and putting him over the legal limit. The case went to trial and Adams was found guilty of driving with a blood alcohol level of .08 percent or greater. He was sentenced to 96 hours in L.A. County jail, had to enroll in an alcohol treatment and counseling program and attend 60 AA meetings and five years probation, the papers state.
In 2003, he plead guilty to driving under the influence and was placed on three years probation, which included a three-month first offender alcohol and drug education and counseling program and restricted him from driving anywhere but to and from work for 90 days.
As if all that weren't bad enough, in April of this year, the Executive Director of the California Medical Board asked the state to consider revoking or suspending Adams’ physician and surgeon’s certificate.
On Monday, Adams claims he did nothing wrong in relation to the death of Donda West.

Just because someone has been sued for malpractice does not mean anything…these days, if a rich doctor gets sued, he's probably going to lose in front of a jury who feels bad for the ex-patient. so really this means nothing.

Dr. Jan Adams is a top plastic surgeon in Beverly Hills and is also the host of Discovery Health's Plastic Surgery: Before and After. That is scary. He has also been on Oprah. He is pretty well known.
so, why not do some research on your doctor before you go in for surgery? or be willing to pay a higher price for a well known doctor who hasn't been sued for malpractice before?
The man lost his mother! this should be a private matter that will be dealt with privately and will be commented on in his next album. Let the woman rest in peace and not publicly announce her plastic surgeries, she could have afforded the best doctors in the country she didnt so sorry for the lost but at the same time its her own fault and let the courts and the families deal with it privately its none of our business.

Any surgeon that's been cutting for more than a year or two will have at least 1 malpractice suit. It happens to everyone, that's why malpractice insurance is so expensive. If you think even the best surgeons don't make mistakes or have idiots patients that are sue happy, you're mistaken. As to the DUI's, well this is California…

When people don't have money and have to work very full time for a living, they think straight and more practical. When people have too much money on hands and a lot of time, they want to buy things, superficial stuff.

He is on discovery channel, he is one of the most famous dr's in Beverly Hills, and he is THE authority on plastic surgery on women of color. PERIOD. She did her research, this happens sometimes. Think about it before you go under for elective surgery people. Women are dying (literally) for bolted on boobs, and three pounds out of their guts. What has the world come to?

maybe she should've checked out the doctor before she let him cut her open. and everybody knows there's a risk of death when you go into surgery. lots of doctors get sued for malpractice from time to time and it doesnt mean they're bad doctors. and getting dui's has nothing to do with practicing medicine unless he got one while driving to work.
She had already been turned down by at least one surgeon who refused to perform the procedure unless she underwent cardiac testing due to her age and medical history. So…instead of undergoing the tests, she skips on to a surgeon who probably had her sign a waiver that stated she knew the risks and was willing to take a chance. Looks as if she decided to gamble and lost. As others stated, she was an educated woman and should have known better. My sympathies go out to KW and family…but damn people, use some common sense!
Clearly you are ignorant to the fact that modern medical practices and practitioners get sued frequently. I'm rather surprised he doesn't have more lawsuits to his credit given the sue-happy society we live in.
Also, blowing a .10 is rather low. A couple of margaritas and I'm past .16. It's easy to do. The DUI's are irresponsible but also irrelevant to the matter at hand.

You know, it's sad that she's dead and all, but with all of that money and some common sense, why did she not bother to look into his past?? I don't even go to the vet without checking references. She had enough money to see any plastic surgeon in the world, so it's her own fault for choosing a shady doctor and not doing her research. Such a shame, really.

Anyway, yeah, it does look like she might have had some underlying medical condition and also a few misgivings if she scheduled and cancelled a few times.
I'm very sorry for Mr. West's loss, but if Ms. West had researched the Dr. beforehand this could have been avoided. You can't place all the blame on the Dr. when it is the patient's responsibility to choose a physician in good standing and to check his/her credentials. It's a shame that someone as obviously intelligent as Ms. West didn't take the time to do this.

i dont think this is his fault. someone else turned her down and she didnt listen and went and found another doctor. she knew she had medical conditions and knew her surgery would be risky.
If people would get off of their fat asses and lose weight the right way, they wouldn't have to worry about stuff like this happening! With that being said, I feel very sorry for this woman because she certainly didn't deserve to die, especially not during what's become a routine surgery. With that also being said, if you're going to take the lazy way out of weight loss, at least research beforehand!
Its not surprising these days that any doctor has a history of malpractice. Particularly plastic surgeons, because most of the people that are their patients are, lets face it, a bit off mentally, and will never achieve the perfection that they seek.
However, that doesn't excuse the care or the risks that this Doc is responsible for. But if you smoke, or you have diabetes, or you have uncontrolled high blood pressure, for example, you are not the best candidate for surgery, let alone elective surgery. But we don't know what the issues are here yet.
My heart does go out to Kanye and his family. His mother sounds like a wonderful and accomplished woman. Maybe we should just focus on that.
Perez, I love your site, but you are overstepping on this one. Most in the health care industry know that being sued two times is insignificant. Imagine all the cases this man has performed, and he has only two settlements against him? Judging on the dollar amount of the settlements, they are simply patients unhappy with the results (loss of life is generally a greater amount). No individual is perfect, neither are their doctors. Americans have to accept that they are in some part responsible for the outcome of their surgeries. Being overweight, a smoker, a drinker, etc. will affect you ability to make it through or recover from a procedure.
