Kate Bosworth was spotted in New York City on Monday night, carrying with her a copy of the classic Sister Carrie by Theodore Dreiser.

Sister Carrie (1900) is a novel by Theodore Dreiser about a young country girl who moves to the big city where she starts realizing her own American Dream by first becoming a mistress to powerful men and later as a famous actress.

Inneresting choice Boz!

I think Perez misspelled "about " to "aboy" on purpose just to get you guys to bring it up! The first time, was I'm sure not on purpose, but this time probably is. I think he likes to get you guys to bitch about it.
And to get some of you guys all fired up over it.
It's workinging! You already got two people bringing it up.
      It's funny.

At the end of it all the girl is left and alone. Its a good read for those that are able to tear themselves away from from the internet or tv. It was a book that caused a stir when it was written and it wasn't until many many years later that it has become a classic.

I also recommend Drieser's other novel An American Tragedy which is based on the Chester Gillette murder of his pregnant girlfriend Grace. It went on to become the 1950 movie A Place In The Sun starring Elizabeth Taylor and Montgomery Clift. Also, Murder In The Adirondacks is also a good read based on the Gillette case.

    40. Elizabeth says – reply to this

      40

Everyone keeps commenting on the "Aboy" typo, but no mention of "Inneresting." If you're going to play editor, don't half ass it. Keep your day jobs people!

    41. litclicker says – reply to this

      41

I promise you she is carrying this book for show. She is not reading it. I had to read it in eleventh grade for English. We were about a hundred pages from the end, we'd been studying it for like a month, and my English teacher finally got so sick of how terrible it is she threw the book against the wall and cancelled the rest of the reading assignments. We just moved on to the next thing on the syllabus. So what the book says about Kate Bosworth is that she's a liar. Or at least fake.

actually she was accepted to princeton university….so yeah..she is smart

      45

SHE'S OBVIOUSLY DOING THE MOVIE VERSION OF THE BOOK. HER MANAGER PROBABLY GAVE HER THE BOOK TO READ AS SOURCE MATERIAL. SOUNDS LIKE A GOOD ROLE, BUT SHE'S NOT A VERY GOOD ACTRESS. I WOULD LOVE TO SEE SOMEBODY SEXIER LIKE ANGIE OR KATE WINSLET (OR KATE BECKINSALE OR ANY OTHER KATE REALLY) DO THIS MOVIE ROLE INSTEAD. HOPEFULLY, SHE IS JUST AUDITIONING AND THE ROLE WILL GO TO SOMEBODY ELSE.

      48

Actually, sister carrie, by Dreiser is about a country girl who moves to the big city in the late 1800- early 1900, her family does not take care of her and she ends up a prostitute/kept woman- rather than a glamourous"mistress" of a wealth or famous man, and ends up working in s sweat shop to save herself. its depressing and was seen as a "cautionary tale" and response to the suffrage rights of women: (ie: "Look what will happen to you if you are allowed to make your own decisions, ladies"… )

    49. Riley says – reply to this

      49

Sister Carrie was already made into a movie in 1952 with Sir Lawrence Olivier. It would be a travesty if it was remade with no talent Kate Bosworth. And sunglasses at night? What a dumb douche bag she is.

      59

Great, another role for Bosworthless to butcher.

And to the person who thinks getting into Princeton makes you smart: she was a legacy admission. That means Daddykins probably had some pull. If she had bothered to go that would be one thing, but she blew it off to be an "actress." How's that working out for ya, Kate?

    60. xenu says – reply to this

      60

Oh, and I love how she's making sure everyone sees the title of the book. "Hey, y'all, I'm like totally smart an' stuff! Between snorting and purging I totally read the ancient classics!" Wannabe.

I tried to read that book. It was terrible. Maybe the movie will be better. But Kate Bosworth?! Give it to Anne Hathaway.

Re: litclicker – Kate Bosworth got accepted to Princeton University so she is very bright. Why can't she be reading a great American novel? I read War and Peace (1000 pages, not all in one go) so there…

MAYBE IF SHE CARRIED BOOKS AROUND THAT WERE HOLLOWED OUT AND HAD GUNS IN THEM AND SHOT A PAP SHE MIGHT BE MODERATLY INTERESTING. SHE NEEDS A NEW PUBLICIST

      73

Re: Mary Marie – I've read the book. So what's your problem? It's a great novel. Remember, this is not a real person so don't whack out cuz she's a prostitute or something (which she really wasn't) you don't have to get so involved
