Quote Of The Day

"If this strike lasts longer than three months, an entire season of television will end this December. No dramas. No comedies. No Daily Show. The strike will also prevent any pilots from being shot in the spring, so even if the strike is settled by then, you won’t see any new shows until the following January. As in 2009. Both the guild and the studios we are negotiating with do agree on one thing: this situation would be brutal."

- Lost co-creator and head writer Damon Lindelof tells The New York Times

WHO CARES ABOUT THE WRITTERS STRIKE. I DON'T THINK SCABS COULD DO ANY WORSE THAN THE CURRENT NO TALENT BUMS ARE DOING. CONSIDERING THE FACT THAT THEIR ABOUT 3 DECENT TV SHOWS OUT OF ABOUT THE 200 OUT THEIR CHANGES HAVE TO BE MADE. AND I'D SAY THE OFFICE IS THE ONLY ONE WELL WRITTEN. I HOPE THE NETWORK EXECS DUMP ALL THE WRITTER AND DEPRT THEM TO SADR CITY. THEIR STUPID LITTLE CAUSE IS GETTING FAR TO MUCH ATTENTION AND DIVERTING OUR ATTENTION AWAY FROM REAL ISSUES LIKE IRAQ AND BRITNEY SPEARS LIFE

      41

WHO CARES? If nurses go on strike or teachers–that's important. But who cares about a bunch of over paid writers whining they don't get enough when they make boatloads more than firemen and women? TV is so boring anyway, does anyone watch it anymore? I don't. I hope they never settle. TV is a waste of time and energy and the amount all these people make is appalling. So they really think we, the people, need them? I would say they need us. I am so sick of hollywood greed–they are truly in lala land if they think anyone cares about their "protest." What about Iraq? We sur elive in strange times……

    43. Family time says – reply to this

      43

This is a blessing in disguise. Without the shows we all hypnotically watch, we can actually turn off the television and pay attention to our spouse, partner, kids, parents, friends, etc. America is heading straight to the crapper and our families are being destroyed. Countries like China and India will OWN America's future if our youth doesn't stop wasting time in front of mindless television and video games.

      WAKE UP!

      44

    45. Yeah says – reply to this

      45

The state of television today is sad……….most shows are only worth watching for the first season and then the great writing seems to fade by the second season. I fully support the writers, in fact they are more pinacle then actors. No matter how good of an actor you are if the writing sucks the character will fail. I think the writers should be appreciated and properly commensated. That being said i also think the entertainment industry is far too reliant on special effects, cheesy reality shows (the hills) and tabloid staples that sometimes act. Be more creative, work harder and make better tv, or else people will eventually turn off the tv!

Yeah, brutal. I admit that the first 2-3 days I didn't know what to do but since than I have been at the gym, repainted my living-room. Visited my parents and my gran, old college buddies, read a book, tried out the new cinema, went to the farmer's market to buy some real food and tried out a few new recipes. And I am loosing weight! Yeah, life with no TV is brutal indeed…

    65. That sounds all nice... says – reply to this

      65

But here's the deal - People won't die if their shows aren't on. Yeah, it will sick, and they'll piss and moan for a couple weeks… But then? They're gonna find something else to do with their time. Maybe get some exercise, go back to school, maybe even (gasp!) spend time with their families. Maybe they'll become BIG fans of reality tv, or rent DVD's. The fact is - they aren't gonna wait long before they move on. Then you know who's gonna suffer the most, and be kicking themselves in the a$$ for not settling this in a timely manner?? ALL OF THEM!!! With no writers, they have no shows. But you know what?? Without VIEWERS, the writers have no show to write for. Vicious cycle, and they are going to be the death of television viewing as we know it. I, for one, won't feel sorry for any of them.
      Netflix, anyone?

'I COULD care less' = you care A LOT
'I COULDN'T care less' = you don't care at all.

And yes, some people are wrapped up in some television shows and most of the time it's because those shows are brilliantly written to start with. But you probably couldn't care less.

    87. A writer says – reply to this

      87

As a writer, I'm annoyed at shows being off the air but I hate how fucking greedy the studios are. Everyone is. It is common knowledge that studios screw over show runners and writers and even actors when it suits them.

You should look up what took place with the writer for Spiderman and how they shafted him in a HUGE way. Basically they gave him a shit deal which included less payment for payment on the "backend". Then they claimed the franchise made no money after marketing expenses.

This really has to stop. Yes it is a pain in the ass to fight for what you believe in and deserve, but they need to do this now.

Most writers aren't writing for The Office, they are creating smaller Indy films, creating movie/tv ideas, and show runners. Those are the ones taking the biggest hit. These aren't super rich people. America is a trademark country is if someone was using your work and making millions of dollars you'd be royally pissed as well.

I hope Ellen's refusal to strike with the writers does her in. Her show, with the embarrassing dancing and safe, vapid interviews with celebrities — and the accept me as a lesbian because I won't even mention it, is a waste of air space. She has become a product, and every product has a shelf life. Think what you will of Rosie, at least she has the spine to be controversial. Ellen's narcissism will be her undoing.
