Quote Of The Day

"If this strike lasts longer than three months, an entire season of television will end this December. No dramas. No comedies. No Daily Show. The strike will also prevent any pilots from being shot in the spring, so even if the strike is settled by then, you won’t see any new shows until the following January. As in 2009. Both the guild and the studios we are negotiating with do agree on one thing: this situation would be brutal."

- Lost co-creator and head writer Damon Lindelof tells The New York Times

well good then! so give the writers what they want and it'll be over :) it wasnt the writer's guild that fired all those production people.

ps, people who frequent this site enough to comment on specific stories should not be advocating not watching TV or that TV is bad. this site is about celebs, and HOW did the majority of them get famous??? TV. y'all are a bunch of hypocrites.

Geez, by then people would have to get off the couch and read a book or take a walk or something. Rebel against the politics of tv. Are we supposed to get sucked into 1/2 a season then just wait around? Go back to books!

I'm a freelance writer, but not in the entertainment industry, and while I have to say all writers have concerned about the rights impingements on the internet, the degree of pay for any professional writer is all relative. While writers in the movie/television industry are among the lowest paid on the pole (before the crew), they are still far more amply rewarded than the average journalist, novelist, poet or published writer. Very few writers make even $10,000 a year and just because you have a book out doesn't mean you get a huge advance, either. So I have some sympathy for these writers but my heart isn't bleeding all over the page.

Meanwhile, I think if the strike continues too long that everyone should boycott their cable and satellite dish providers and/or the advertisers should threaten to pull their endorsements. That should bring things to a conclusion fairly quickly.

Kind of funny how the shit-eating celebrities are hogging up the spotlight with thier little picket signs. Like they give two shits about writers. I love their baseball caps and boxes of donuts!!! Notice Minnie Driver in the background? She looks like she hit the makeup artist before joining in the struggle!!!
      SOLIDARITY BITCHES!!!

      116

Who cares? TV better get its act together because they will quickly find out that shows that are carrying on and other forms of media can overtake them. Movies, the internet, sports programming there are so many other things to hold our interest besides these shows. Some people live by these shows but there are plenty who do not. Out of sight out of mind. If they don't get back to work people will find some place else to divert their attention.

Yep, they are gonna mess around until all those couch potatoes (me being one of them) realize there is so much more than a tv show. Just like what happened with baseball.
Come on they make the industry money and this strike shows the big wigs at these money making studios will save a buck on salaries to spend it in lawyers fee's and loss of viewers. Geeze……..

Imagine people won't be able to sit in front of their TV's watching these crappy shows anymore… Good… maybe Americans will get off their asses and do something productive like volunteer or maybe start to do more reading or other interesting/productive things… imagine the horror no TV… ugh.. what will we do?

    27. Lydia says – reply to this

      127

oh no. Oh No. OH NO!!!! The world as we know it is over!! No more mediocre TV shows until 2009?? You guys, this is serious! If the writers strike doesn't end soon, us Americans are going to have to find other things to do with our time like playing in the parks with our dogs, riding around on our bicycles, and other scarily productive things like that. WHAT IS THIS WORLD COMING TO!? Obviously these actors need more pay. These writers have to live paycheck to paycheck only making nickels and dimes a day for their intense labor unlike lower class America who have it so easy, being able to sit in a nice air-conditioned room making up poorly written story-lines and earning 6 figure salaries a year … wait a minute

Uuuuuuuuh, nobody watches that garbage on TV anyway, so I don't think it really matters. TV sucks these days! Fire all the writers, just start all over again, even if it takes forever to get back up again. Shows and movies are the worst-written pieces of trash these days. Monkeys can write more entertaining shit than most of the shows on TV right now.

    33. papa bear says – reply to this

      133

Uhhh…the studios could give a rat fuck if the writers continue the strike. They will give the Mark Burnett crowd a call and flood the airwaves with gameshows and reality series that cost 1/10th of what a scripted series costs and laugh all the way to the bank while the crybabies, er, writers sit in the picket line.

This will continue until the studios decide to break the agreement to work with union writers and hire non-union help and let writers who are worth it actually negotiate contracts that reflect their worth rather than having to take guild minimums and using their fucked up 'scale of advancement' for their contracts.

OOHHHHHH!!!!! THE HORROR!! NO NEW TELEVISION!!
We may all have to do something healthy. Reconnect with our family and friends. Maybe have dinner at the same table. Read a goddamn book. See a movie. Rent a classic. Volunteer 'just because'. Listen to the rain, or a good song, or maybe YOUR KIDS!!
oh please stop….dont…stop………DON'T STOP THE STRIKE. I needed a reason to do all of the above. THANKS!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Lost starts in February. They started filming non-stop as of September, so there should be at least a few episodes done. However, if this disrupts the 16 back-to-back episodes I've been promised, and WAITING FOR since last March, I'll be one fucking pissed off Lostie.

God, Matthew Perry looks ooooold. Still cute, but cute in a run-over-by-a-truck-twice kinda way.

I support the writers strike, but they need to realise that if they hold out too long and their loyal audience start to lose their shows, they won't HAVE any audience to return to. If I don't get my full dose of LOST in February, I'll be ANGRY.

Whats funny about this all though is the crybaby hollywoods think the rest of the county does! Ha Ha, Ha Ha. Suck it up, we all want more money. And unlike these richies, we arent already making a few million a year. I smell some big stinky GREED!

TV is in a horrible state and so is the human race because of it. If TV would suddenly disappear we would all be better off. Any union that encourages it's members to strike for wages should have their head checked. Unions that do this are the scum of the earth. If you make over a hundred grand a year you do not need to go on strike for anything much less wages. You guys can all Fuck Off and die for all I care. I'm cancelling my cable and will spend my extra time working out, volunteering and get some projects done around the house. TV is life sucking parasite.
