The World According To Beth

The fierceness that is Beth Ditto is featured in the new issue of Spin in an interview that's too juicy for words.
Here are some HIGHlights:
- BETH DITTO of the Gossip has outspoken opinions about whether she finds it marginalizing being on a label for lesbian, gay, bisexual and transgender artists…
"No, I love being on a queer label. You're sitting in a room with a group of people who have all the same reference points as you, you don't have to explain anything about your identity to them, and people aren't
like, "What's a tranny?"
- About her band, the Gossip, being much more popular in the U.K. than in the U.S…
"Sometimes I think of America as this imperial child of England that doesn't know what to do until England tells it. But I'm ready for the backlash over there. It's coming!"
- About stripping during her live shows…
"I don't think the rules are the same for me as they were for Courtney Love or [Bikini Kill/Le Tigre frontwoman] Kathleen Hanna, because I don't think my body was accepted in the same way. In the beginning, people were really uncomfortable with a big girl, so it was a radical political statement; and it's even more radical to not be objectified with your clothes off. Also, onstage, it's so hot we're dying. It just feels nice sometimes."
- About Keira Knightley calling her "sexy" and saying that she had "the most amazing body", and this coming from someone who looks like she might have an eating disorder…
"The way I feel about Keira Knightley is that even if she has an eating disorder, it's good for people to hear her say something like that, because people listen to people like her."
- About being friends with Perez Hilton…
"Let me tell you how I stay friends with Perez: I don't look at his blog. I don't agree with what Perez says a lot of the time, and I think he knows that, but we really appreciate each other."
- About how she thinks Britney Spears is rad and should never have had her kids taken away…
"People fail to see that regional culture is a massive part of a person's experience. She is just trash. And when I say trash, I mean that in the most positive way, as in, I was trash, too."

that's actually a king size bed she's on.. they extended the head board to make it look like a chair..
what a whale.
I didn't realize Mexican is a language.
Re: UK Rules –
You are freaking RETARDED!!! "You wouldn't even have a country if the Europeans hadn't found it" WHERE THE HELL DO YOU THINK THOSE EUROPEANS THAT INVADED AMERICA WENT!?? The people who "founded" (more like stole from the Natives) this country were European yeah but since they stayed here they considered themselves American. Meaning, a lot of white families who have lived in this country since the European Settlers came in have European ancestors. The only people who are 100% Americans from the beginning are the Native Americans. Those Europeans that founded America didn't go anywhere, they had children, their children had children and since they didn't go back to Europe they are now considered American. Case in point the Americans you speak of do have European ancestry themselves. Good lord.
Re: in the uk, baby –
Did you know that the most celebrated character in the Pirates franchise (Jack Sparrow) is an actor born in Owensboro KENTUCKY which is a state in the United States of America?? And no duh the Pirates movie is going to be English, it was the 18th century retard. And Leonardo DiCaprio who is the star of Titanic is American. The people who made America what it is today were European because back then ALL the whites were European. You obviously failed history class so it may come to as a shock to you when I say the Native Americans were the ones who inhabited this country first.
Re: in the uk, baby –
Pirates of the Caribbean is a movie based on a theme park made by arguably the greatest cartoonist, Walt Disney, an AMERICAN. That theme park that he first built in California - the same California that resides within the UNITED STATES. The movie was directed by Gore Verbinski, an AMERICAN man and the starring role of Jack Sparrow is also an A M E R I C A N!!
And also just becuase a movie is based in Britian does not mean the British came up with the idea. With your logic if a person made a movie about a dog, that would mean that the dogs came up with the idea for the films. You have some sort of freakish superiority complex that you really need to get rid of. You're probably jealous that the Big Bad Americans aren't as terrible as everyone like to make them out to be so you have to take credit for the hard work they do to entertain the masses. Like it or not you're just going to have to accept that when it comes to entertainment, the Americans have it in the bag.
Oh and By the way, the first name that appears on the cast list for the Titanic is Leonardo DiCaprio, who was born in California, which in case you didn't know, makes him an American. Get over yourself. The rest of the world isn't as in love with you as you think.
Okay, so she's obese, but at least she has confidence, and hell that's good. It's good that someone can look different than all the skinny singers out there. It's not all about looks or weight, it's about the music. God, shallow freaks.
