Are you even aware that in Iowa and NH polling he's within a stone's throw of 1st place? With enough hard campaigning and grassroots effort he could easily take Iowa and NH which would give him the momentum going into the other primaries. Hillary isn't the unstoppable juggernaut everyone thinks she is and Barak really isn't polling as great as everyone thinks he is.

I honestly don't know what I was thinking reading the comments in a political post on a gossip site. Half the high-school girls who read this site just blindly support someone like it's a homecoming election.

      Re: Justin
Although you may be correct on the polling figures, I have no idea since I've been out of town and therefore clueless on the latest polls (yes I know bad American), Edwards does strike me as the type of guy that will jump on any bandwagon to get some headlines. Though given the chance either party would resort to the same tactic, so it's not saying much, but this does seem a bit random. I mean writers? Really? Is one of them responsible for his speech? I don't mind the guy, I'm just curious as to the why. Any thoughts? (In case you think I'm being a smart ass I'm not, I'm actually really rather curious.)

yay!! at least one of the politicians was supporting them. I was hoping for Arnie, him being an actor and all. But he was probably forbidden cause Republicans have to back the giant corporations that make them strong.

      Good for John Edwards.

    15. Shireen says – reply to this

      15

Re: Danny – actually I kinda agree with you. I can't think of why he would choose to back them, aside from the off chance that maybe he is just trying to prove he is against major corporations. I mean standing with the writers would be a good statement against them, and Republicans are all about the corporations.. that's the only thing I could think of.

    16. Danny says – reply to this

      Re: Shireen
      Thanks Shireen.
I just got back from Nicaragua, and the one thing people complained about was minimum wage. Now, I know that the U.S. is not Central America, but in Los Angeles, where I live, minumum wage is $7.50. I mean how can you live off of that? As an aspiring writer I want a good precedent to be put in place with the writer's guild, but why not stand for a voice that is not being heard as opposed to one that is making national headlines? Again, I am not trying to knock the man down for trying to strike interest in himself, but doesn't every courageous leader take a step into the unknown to become the type of man (or maybe woman) whom we would consider a viable person to lead our country? I guess no matter where you are political figures come across as shallow, not because they are, but because we've made them that way. It's a rather negative view, but I've seen a lot of poverty lately.

What a desperate move by a desperate man. Hillary has him hog tied and he knows it.

    18. Justin™ says – reply to this

      18

      Danny,

It's really quite simple. Edwards is very pro-union and has some very large unions endorsing him. If you want the support of the unions, you need to support them. While the Writers Guild isn't a large union, being able to go stand in line with them gets you bonus points with the other unions.

He already has the United Steel Workers endorsing him, and I believe it is currently the largest union(at 1+ million members) to endorse a candidate(at least as of August it was). Showing up at a picket line and marching with workers gets him on the news, it gets the writers on the news, and it shows other unions that he's willing to go out and fight with them(symbolically).

It's the same reason other politicians give sweetheart deals to the large companies who give them the money to help get them elected, you dance with them that brought you.

    19. Shireen says – reply to this

      19

Re: Danny – I am also an aspiring writer, so your comment has a lot of weight with me. I have been campaigning for the writers strike lately and a lot of my friends have been making that same point. I am totally torn on the subject. I think writers deserve everything they are asking for, but it's true.. there are so many other things that seem much more important in comparison. Still torn… but either way, good to see somebody else intelligent on here for a change.

      RE: Justin & Shireen
Justin: That actually makes a lot of sense. I guess I always get blindsighted by the smaller or bigger issues, or at least the ones that I can connect with at any given time. It's certainly clear that I don't really understand unions even though I have belonged to them in the past. Ignorance is pitiful, at least in this case.
Shireen: I too am glad that someone is standing up for writers, in fact, I'm glad someone is going out there and standing up for something. In our day and age it's clear that every political move will be dissected to pieces on numerous talk shows and websites. It's nice to see someone going out there and taking a risk by standing with the people. I guess in the long run I hope it's an honest stance.
Regardless: We actually discussed something on Perez Hilton that didn't involve Britney, Lindsey, or that Tina girl. I don't usually post because I never feel like people are going to respond in a positive way, but in this case I have to say thank you both, and thanks strangely enough to Perez for giving us this outlet.

Of all the politicians running for President, John Edwards is the one who has consistently shown the most concern for those of us who are struggling, who visit sites like Perez Hilton to get an escape from our increasingly difficult lives. The media has given him a bad rep, talking about expensive haircuts and such, because corporations are afraid of his populist stance. He has been my favorite candidiate all along. I like Obama but feel he is too conciliatory at a time when we need bold action to stand up to the war machine and corporations who are ruining our world. And Hillary is just too divisive a figure at a time when the Democrats MUST win next year!!!

      Re: insouciant
I don't think the issue is about our government giving us two different parties to choose from, but the fact that we vote knowing that our votes will only really count for either democrat or republican. I can imagine (although I might not see it in my lifetime) a future where one day, a third party wins the vote and sets a new standard that changes the way we, along with other nations, perceive the voice of the American people.

Welcome to political campaigning. Anyone who is running for office has to get out there and get noticed on current issues or they're dead in the water. Almost all politicians are opportunists, and them associating themselves with certain causes to highlight their position on things isn't necessarily bad — what's bad is if it's a lie.

Edward's voting record shows that he is pro-Union and anti-conglomerate, so his record backs up his support of the strike, and his going there highlights his stance.

Re: Midwest Mom – Interesting that you would have that view, coming from teh Midwest. I live in the Midwest (Indiana)(, and the doctors here are like a fraternity — there is a state board of doctors that gets to decide of I suit can go through. A friend of mine nearly bled to death because teh OB/GYN who did her DNC cut an artery and the nurses kept shishing her when she said she thought she was bleeding too much — but she could not sue for the extra expense caused from having to recover from the damage caused by a doctor.
There are "ambulance chasers", and they do encourage meritless litigation, but Edwards is not an ambulance chaser. Without lawyers like him willing to litigate cases, doctors would be more "above it all" than they are.

Which reminds me of a joke… Do you know the difference between God and a doctor??

Midwest Mom, you are gullable. The insurance industry has spent a lot of money selling their lie that medical negligence suits and attorneys that help people who are hurt are putting doctors out of business. That couldn't be further from the truth. Think about this, when a JURY awards a verdict, depending on the jurisdiction, it's usually at least nine people who have heard the evidence that believe an award is justified. Settlements are VOLUNTARY — so those shouldn't be criticized, everyone agrees to them. While the insuracne companies are raising their rates, the number of lawsuits are decreasing. Guess who is making the money there? The same people telling the gullable that it's someone else's fault the rates are so high; insurance companies have seen record high profits. Hmmm, let me think about that.

Though with this consistency has also been the ability to take in new information and adapt when the situation changes. Had Bush been able to do that we would not be counting the days since his infamous “mission accomplished” speech. During debates he has not wavered (Hilary) nor has he been vague (Obama). Part 1

Listen to what these other 2 candidates really are saying watch a debate I have yet to really hear how they stand on issues or how they plan to resolve the issues we are already drowning in. Look at there voting record see how they vote on issues. Stop letting the media (though I love Perez) guide you. Educate yourselves otherwise realize those who control the media control you. Want to know John Edwards' point of view go to his website johnedwards.com. See how he stands on issues what his plans are if he becomes president think about how they would affect you. I noticed some people mocking the grass roots effort. I hope those people are either very wealthy or owners and/or operators of a special interest group because that’s where Hillary and Obama are raking in the cash. It is time for Americans to stand up and stop letting the rich and the powerful companies dictate how the rest of Americans live. The war in Iraq was a catastrophe however not so catastrophic to Halliburton who is making billions and who’s former CEO is Dick Cheney who during the war in Iraq is making millions. Part 2

The republicans know that if Americans could turn off there blinders to the media hype that they would see Edwards for the intelligent, compassionate, and strong leader that he is. Which is why they chose to attack him from the start. They didn't attack Hillary or Obama nearly as much. Why? Because it’s an old school yard trick you discredit the person who has the best chance of kicking your ass first and if you can get them out of the way you have done the hard work. Wake up people! Look at the state of our country do we want another corporate puppet? And with that I step down from my soap box!

He's a hypocritical asshole. Huge houses= his own GYM and basketball court. He made money suing docs who deliver babies claiming they caused cerebral palsy and now we know that that isn't true. Babies are born with CP from brain damage at ANY time during pregnancy. He put them out of business and runs for office on THEIR money. He's a douchebag. A lying, conniving, energy sucking plastic Ken doll.

Midwest mom is right on! In this litiginous country patients often sue based on bad outcomes (ie - everything didn't turn out as they hoped it would in their dreams). For example, their baby is born with cerebral palsy. Cerebral palsy is a junk diagnosis that has no identifiable cause - however, greedy, dirty lawyers like Edwards found a way to capitalize on cerebral palsy cases to make millions. Babies can be born with cerebral palsy even when everything during birth is handled according to nationally accepted standards of care. Juries are easily swayed by emotionally compelling testimony, and what is more persuasive than an innocent child that will never have a normal life? I'm not saying there aren't negligent doctors out there who practice irresponsibly, but I know the majority of lawsuits Edwards capitalized on were not negligence cases at all. They were bad outcome cases that he made emotionally compelling by twisting the facts. He put good doctors out of business, bankrupting them and ruining their lives. No one with a legitimate interest in health care reform should elect this man. No one with a legitimate interest in electing an honest leader should elect this man. Get your head out of the sand, people. Doctors are not the enemy. Politicians are.

As a life-long North Carolinian, I can attest that he has NOT made a career of 'frivilous' litigation. In fact he is the ONLY candidate that will provide universal health care for all; absent the sickening proift that the "non-profits" enjoy. V O T E J O H N E D W A R D S 2 0 0 8

Being from NC, I am a little more familiar with his political career then your are. John Edward used to be a member of the NC congress. He was not a US senator first. His father couldn't have been a unionized mill worker. That is a bullshit LIE. One of many. You are a mindless sheep that believes every think you read. Take the time to study his voting record for yourself when he was a North Carolina Congressmen. Not when he was a US senator. You are a dumbass if you cannot distinguish the difference. His voting record is a matter of public record. www.ncgov.com. Don't be a sheep!

To all you pro Hillary jackasses, come live in NY and see what she has been doing. NOTHING!!!! Seriously, I think she has had more plastic surgeries than sensible debates as senator. The unexperienced, carpet munching, repub gone demo couldn't even stand up as a feminast to defend herself years ago when her husband was cleaning out someone elses garage ;) . Honestly, that is the campaigne she is running on and has been since she started her canidacy for NY state senator; she reeks of "Feel for me,the stupid bitch who stayed with the cheating husband, who needs to redeem herself" Pity votes is all, pity votes.
