It's official!
The numbers are in and Leona Lewis' debut record, Spirit, is the #1 album in the U.K. this week.
Spirit broke records on its way to the top!
The album has become the UK’s fastest-selling debut album of all time. The previous record was set by the Arctic Monkeys, who sold 363,735 copies of Whatever People Say I Am, That’s What I’m Not in January 2006.
This week Spirit sold a phenomenal 375,872 copies.
Leona was up against the Spice Girls, Led Zeppelin and Celine Dion. Spirit beat the number two album, by the Spice Girls, by a staggering 300,085 copies!!!!
Lewis' current single, Bleeding Love, is also #1 this week - for a fourth consecutive week. So far it has sold an incredible 563,702 copies in just 4 weeks, beating the previous record set by Mika with Grace Kelly.
Spirit is now scheduled for release in the U.S. on March 18th. Yay!

Leona Lewis's feet are big and ugly, she is a Sasquatch. I've just listened to Leona's CD: it's not very good. Jojo is a much better singer than Leona, and is much better looking. Leona sings like some idiot who failed their X Factor audition; her singing is contrived and affected. British female (RNB/soul) singers need to develop their own style - because the Americans are the best - they should take a leaf out of Amy Winehouse's book. Amy learnt from the greats and developed her own style. I give Spirit 1/10 - drivel at its uninspiring best!

I love how people slag Leona off but you are still taking the time to do it. If you're not interested then why bother commenting? 375,872 albums in one week IS phenomenal in the UK remembering that we are a much smaller country and average album sales are around 100,000. America is such a huge country and yet each year on American Idol you still fail to find the next Kelly Clarkson. I can't even remember who won the last few Idols they were that good! Kelly Clarkson is the only one to have International success and you are working from a much bigger pool of talent so you'd expect year in year out that you would find consistantly amazing singers. So where are they? Maybe Leona won't make it in the US but I say kudos for selling more albums in the UK than Britney an established megastar is currently selling in the States. You have to start somewhere.

The Led Zeppelin must obviously be some sort of re-release. If they made an album of new material, it would decimate all sales records in existence. They would sell more records in one week than Kelly Clarkson and Brittney Spears have in their combined careers.
