Alicia Keys' new album, As I Am, has done EVEN BETTER than expected.
The Soundscan numbers are in and Alicia sold an astonishing 742,426 copies in the U.S. since its release last week. That's massive!
It's also THREE times as many copies as the #2 disc sold. And coming in second - somewhat of a surprise - is Josh Groban. His Christmas album Noel sold a very healthy 223,306 copies. And it's already been out a few weeks!
Groban's appearance on Oprah yesterday will likely ensure him equally big numbers next week and throughout the holiday season.
Celine Dion's first album of new material, Taking Chances, came in 3rd, selling 214,381 copies.
And, poor Britney Spears, isn't even in the top 10 anymore. She's not even in the top 20!
Britney came in at an incredibly disappointing #23, selling 51,520 copies.

I've listened to both Alicia's Album and Celine's and i'm so disappointed with Alicia Keys her first three albums were much better with a song like 'No One' i expected it to be great. Its the other way around for Celine's, Taking Chances is a good song but the entire album is Flawless I cannot stop listeining to it. Alicia's Album was Massly Promoted far more than Celine and she has a younger crowd, but i think Taking Chances will have better sales in the long run. I was disappointed to hear that she came in 3rd were are all the Celine Fans? The ones were she sold out shows for 5 years straight? The ones where almost all her world tour dates are sold out? Come on go out and buy the album. And Sony release another single or two. Norah jones still has the best opening week for a female artist with 1million copies. And Celine is the best selling Female Artist of all time with almost 200 million with album sales they are right now no one is even close to touching that. Celine is legendary.

Alicia Keys is a talented individual. She may not be the best singer, but she knows how to touch my soul. And she sure did hell of a lot of promo, but I think she would've been #1 without all that anyway. I don't think she would've sold THAT much, but still be #1. Celine is wonderful, but I stopped listening to her a long time ago. The music she makes now doesn't do anything for me the way her old music did. Alicia Keys deserves all the success she is getting. Not only does she sing live every time. She is also a musician and a songwriter which is really rare in this day. Britney is getting exactly what she deserves. What is the point of putting out an album is you're not going to promote and promote does not mean appearing on the cover of every tabloid. With the exception of the VMAs Brit has not done any public performances; she does not care about her album or her fans plain and simple.
The thing about it is, Brit probably does not even care that her album is #23 after only three weeks. Brit's fan base has obviously diminished over time. She should either reinvent herself or just stop making music altogether. The record company has to be disappointed. How do you go from selling 1.3 million albums in your first week to 290,000?

Alright so it's obvious that Britney is incomparable to people who can actually sing (i.e. Mariah Carey & Celine Dion). However, you can't deny the fact that indeed she did claim success in the past. To say that Britney's a total failure, is a little extreme because 1- you're ignoring what HAS happened with her career in the past and 2- unless you have some special talent, you're unable to predict the future.

I haven't heard anything new by Celine and didn't even know she had a new CD so saying she sold 75,000 less than Shitney means nothing. Shitney was promoting the hell outta her CD by all of her antics and the awful, awful VMA "performance". Celine has done no promotion (that I know of) and I guarantee her CD sells alot more than Zitney. And yes, I am LOL at the fact that Shitney's fat-ass CD has slid out of the top 20 after 3 weeks. Pathetic. Want your money back yet?
