Cheney's Heart Beats Irregularly

Vice President Dick Cheney was diagnosed with an irregular heartbeat on Monday.
The discovery was made during an examination for a lingering cough.
Cheney's spokesperson says:
"The vice president visited with his doctors this morning for evaluation of a lingering cough from a cold.
During examination he was incidentally found to have an irregular heartbeat, which on further testing was determined to be atrial fibrillation, an abnormal rhythm involving the upper chambers of the heart.
Later this afternoon, the vice president will visit George Washington University Hospital for further evaluation and, if indicated, cardioversion, delivery of an electric impulse to the heart, which is a standard treatment for atrial fibrillation."

The world, and people like you in particular will never see him and think, "Now there is a white man, let's allow him the privilege that comes along with being white." While Barack's mother was in fact a white woman, she knew, as Barack knows, that the world and the society in which he would grow up, would never accept him as a White person, and therefore he would have to be a strong, educated black man, and THAT is why he states himself as a Black man. He is not denying his mother, no the heritage that he inherited from her. He simply does not subscribe to the belief that that heritage will allow him any privilege in a world dominated by white people, especially IGNORANT white people.

Ignorance is NOT bliss, and it can be deadly(!)
1.) There are different forms and severities of Atrial Fib.
2.) If not corrected, Atrial Fib can cause a bloodclot (which leads to stroke) because often the blood within the atrial valve of the heart just 'quivers' instead of being pushed back out into the bloodstream, leading to coagulation of the blood within the heart (think jello). A clot thrown lose can migrate to the lung or brain, ergo a stroke. Generally blood thinners are administered to dissolve any existing clots and as a preventative before cardioversion is administered. Those with a history of Atrial Fib often live on bloodthinners like Coumadin so that cardioversion can be performed without delay.
3.) Cardioversion does not in itself cause stroke, although stroke can indirectly result from Atrial Fib (see # above).
4.) To say that Atrial Fib is not serious is a mistatement; it can in fact be fatal. It is increasingly common however, in our aging population. More than 2 million Americans have Atrial Fib in some form at this writing.
5.) Patients with a long history of heart ailments (i.e. Cheney) are at a much higher risk and not really good candidates for cardioversion.
