David Beckham played with some balls in Sydney Harbour on Monday.

The soccer stud continued his first trip to Australia with some photo ops and a lavish party in the evening.

Among the guests in attendance at the soiree: Ian Thorpe, Antonia Kidman, Collette Dinnigan with Richard Wilkins and Sydney FC co-owner Anthony La Paglia and Elton John, whose down under for a string of concerts.

Sir Elton playfully greeted the Becks by saying, "Allo Golden Balls".

Can we play with your balls too???

This was due to his security staff taking him into the hotel via a back entrance unknowingly to him that the children were waiting to see him at the main door.
He publicly apoligized at a media conference for this and later honoured a promise to the young cancer patient Emma Byers and met her in private.

The video shows the kids standing there, he looks out the window and sees them, and gets out with no security standing near him and walks straight into the door right there with the kids looking straight on at his back. As premiership footballers go, he's still tops among them. He doesn't get the credit he deserves for his footie because the media attention is always on his personal life. In his defense it does seem that he tries to move the focus off his personal life and back on his game, but his wife does nothing but pedal personal details, because that's her job, she's a celebrity personality. So while both do their jobs really well, one (David) has an actual talent/skill, whilst the other (Victoria) sells image. To keep his career going he needs to focus on his game. To keep her career going she needs to focus on her personal life. There's a conflict there.

okay - for those of you saying he snubbed the kids with cancer…firstly, not even someone with coldest heart would purposely snub a sick child. David is a father himself, and one of his kids has epilepsy, so I'm sure he has compassion for ill children. Secondly, the amount of charitable work that David does for children makes this story very hard to believe. there was no official meet and greet arranged for David & those children, so if they wanted to meet him, it need to be pre-arranged with his PR people. Yes, he saw kids waiting for him - did he know they were sick? I doubt it. There are kids always running after him - do you think he stops the car everytime to meet them? This was a misunderstanding, and as usual , the media jumped all over it. It's called Sensationlist journalism.
