You prayed for rain, and it worked!

It's raining in Georgia!

The drought-ridden state has been blessed with some much-needed rain today.

Hopefully it lasts!

Why does prayer only seem to work on things that already have a high probability of happening? Here's a good test for you, round up all the people in GA, no, in the world and have them all pray for an amutee to miraculously sprout a lost arm or leg and see what happens. Then we'll have some good data on the usefulness and efficiency of prayer.

Some of you people are just assholes. He prayed and it rained 2 days later. Not enough though. If it doesn't rain again then the water in Atlanta, Athens and other areas will be shut off in about 60 days. Instead of bashing people for Praying take a look at the seriousness of this situation. What would you do if you ran out of water??? Stop being selfish and bashing the state of Ga when there is actually something serious going. Thanks for posting this Perez though some dumb bitches just want to hear about britney it's nice to know you have an idea of what the F**k is going on in the world. Even if it is in the little state of Georgia.

Re: richard – How do you think a cancer tumor can just come out of a person head without medicine. It did to my cousin. He and I know how it when away. God answers prays. He does not answer ever single pray. If some one was to pray to win alot of money. He would probably not do that because money is evil.

Re: Jessa – Atheists were not hoping that it didn't rain. it would have rained regardless. every atheist I know is kind and not vengeful. We are not cultists who hope for evil things to happen. If anything, we apply the same logic to "religion" as we do to other things in our lives. Are you saying that the atheists prayed and prayed for drought? why did it take so long to rain after the praying began? it didn't rain due to weather patterns, and it ended up raining due to weather patterns. Not because some magical, personal God answered YOUR prayers. It doesn't prove that atheists are wrong or that christians are right. This is not a religious event…. it's about weather. What do you say when tornados wipe out entire towns or when hurricanes devastate hundreds of thousands of lives or when tidal waves wipe out entire coast lines or when earthquakes swallow the earth? That people didn't pray…that it happened for a reason? You're thinking teleologically and that is just stupid. ps–i'm glad that it finally rained. i know that many of the states in that area have been suffering.

Re: FunOne – How do you know that the "hollywood types" don't pray? You're being pretty judgemental and your assertions are completely unfounded. Just because someone is left winged doesn't mean that they don't believe in God, religion or the power of prayer. Don't be so closed minded on something you know nothing about.

      125

My grandmother, a devout Christian, had an inoperable brain tumor at 50 and through the power of prayer it left her body and she lived to be 86. There was no medical explanation for it. Who is to say why prayer doesn't always work? Who are we to question God? I am not a redneck. Far from it. I lean to the left, grew up middle-class, black and have a college degree. My grandmother grew up poor. Wealth or the lack of it has nothing to do with the heart and soul of the person. I had a near death experience and I literally saw the light and walked away unscathed from a totaled car. You can't tell me God doesn't exist. I was surrounded by a bright light while my car crumpled all around me and it wasn't the sun. I pray that God will work a miracle in the lives of the non-believers but even if he doesn't, blessed are those who believe and have not seen.

Re: sk – I would explain the instance of your cousin's tumor going away as matter of probability in another self-limiting ailment. That's what cancer does, it either kills you or goes into remission. There's always that 50% chance of life or death, just like the draught there's always a 50% chance of rain or no rain. Now for an amputee to regrow a limb, a non self-limiting ailment with a 0% chance of happening, that would TRUELY be a miracle and proof of a divine being's existance. But as you say, god doesn't answer all prayers, like people who pray to win alot of money because money is evil. So i guess based on the logic that god wont answer evil prayers, then asking for a lost limb is evil as well since god has NEVER answered a prayer like that.

Re: Ask this sinner – Many cancers arise due to defects in genes that normally suppress tumor growth, yet sometimes a suppressed gene will spontainiously reactivate causing a tumor to shrink or disappear. Without these genes which specifically suppress tumors, our bodies would be completely covered with tumors which is the case with many genetic abnormalities, all due to imperfect DNA replication.

People have died fighitng for the right to worship how they deem necessary. I don't understand why in the 21st century you criticize a group of people for being appreciative for our many blessings. I am afraid you live in the dark ages my friend.

It did rain at my house in Atlanta the day after the prayer meeting. You fuckers in Alabama and Florida better ready though, since your water comes out of our dam you will need your own prayer meeting when we close it. Re: christian in training – Not really helping your own cause too much there. The governor and his staff have been working hard behind the scenes in Washington to lower the amount of water released. I have no problem with his prayer meeting. What I do have a problem with is the playup of this in the media. I am a college graduate who goes to church once or twice a year. It pisses me off a little to get lumped in with the uneducated redneck that runs around hollering "OHHH LAWDDDDDDDD!!" about every little thing in life.

Re: nocahoma – The respect you demand for your faith lends shelter to extremists of all faiths. If I must respect you for your faith then I must respect osama bin laden for his as well. "Whats wrong with people believing in God?" you ask, well heres a few examples: stonings, suicide bombings, the inquisitions and 911. Sure let's not forget all the people who died fighting for the right to worship how they deem necessary, especially those brave men who hijacked the planes on 911. Youre absolutely right in that respect because thats exactly what they were doing, fighting and dying for their right to worship how THEY DEEMED NECESSARY, and everyone else (according to their religion) were meant to die and goto hell which was a bonus. All this happens even in the 21st century as you are questioning why someone would criticize peoples faith and religion in this day and age. It's the non-questioning and criticizing of peoples faith and belief that renders atrocities like these to continue, even in the 21st century. So actually we are still in the dark ages as it were.
