Musician Left Devastated After Malibu Fires
This is so sad.
It turns out that musician/producer Butch Walker was living in the Malibu house owned by Red Hot Chili Peppers bassist Flea that burned down this past weekend, sources reveal to PerezHilton.com.
"Butch lost everything," a friend of the rock star's tells us. "He had been renting Flea's house for a while and was in the process of buying it. The house was completely burned down."
Especially devastating for Walker, who had a home studio, was losing the masters to every song he ever recorded. Computers, equipment, instruments, song lyrics, everything. Gone.
Friends of Butch's are rallying together to help get him essentials, like clothes for his baby, and are hoping that those in the position to help will.
Got an extra guitar? There's someone who could really use one!

I'm sorry, fame and money do not heal loss and certainly do not erplace feeling the kindness of others. A show of love and support is appreciated by the heart. He lost all of his masters! Where is your heart. Money cannot replace ones heart and soul poured into creativity. He lost all of his baby things! That is sentimental and painful. Sure money makes it easier to rebuild materially but not a grieving broken heart. That takes time, love, and SUPPORT!

I attended a BMI sponsored songwriters panel last Grammy week and Butch was one of the panelists. He is a wonderful songwriter and this must be devastating for him and his family. Such sad news!

Are you serious people? Yes, it is awful for anyone to have a fire in the home… and he lost his baby things (guess what, his baby is ALIVE and he can get more baby things…). To all of a sudden do a fundraiser for a RICH guy who was "in the process" of purchasing the house is — actually quite lucky for him… HE DIDN'T CLOSE ESCROW SO HE DOESN'T HAVE TO REBUILD! Ha. The person who will have to rebuild and hold the money bag is (you guessed it) Mr. Flea. This man most likey had insurance and loads of money in the bank to qualify for the huge JUMBO loan that he was in the process of obtaining. He is safe, his family is safe and a few things burnt. First of all, Butch didn't only lose music equipment and baby clothes. He'd just finished moving everything he owned from his ATL house and studio to his Malibu home. Butch has worked extremely hard for his success and (relatively) little noticed contributions to the music world. So although he probably doesn't need as much help as other disaster victims around the world that doesn't mean the loss wasn't devastating. So have some compassion for christ's sake. He's a genuinely good guy who didn't deserve something like this.
In a press statement Butch said:

Most people big into the Atlanta music scene have crossed paths with Butch Walker at least once- he's a down to earth stand up guy who has worked very hard for many years to get where he is. I'm sure he's not looking for a handout by any means, he knows he is fortunate. It doesn't make what happened any less tragic- no one deserves to lose things that hold personal signifigance. I'm really sorry to hear about this.
