Musician Left Devastated After Malibu Fires

This is so sad.

It turns out that musician/producer Butch Walker was living in the Malibu house owned by Red Hot Chili Peppers bassist Flea that burned down this past weekend, sources reveal to PerezHilton.com.

"Butch lost everything," a friend of the rock star's tells us. "He had been renting Flea's house for a while and was in the process of buying it. The house was completely burned down."

Especially devastating for Walker, who had a home studio, was losing the masters to every song he ever recorded. Computers, equipment, instruments, song lyrics, everything. Gone.

Friends of Butch's are rallying together to help get him essentials, like clothes for his baby, and are hoping that those in the position to help will.

Got an extra guitar? There's someone who could really use one!

I don't give 2 squats about Butch, but he was on the Atlanta radio this a.m. He said he doesn't need handouts - he's got the money. That there's other people who need that more than him. It just sucks to loose sentimental shit.
I'm sure Gibson will be more than happy to give him a new guitar. And I'm sure he knows that so stop being an asshole toward the guy. He told the story how his close friend was in the house house-sitting and escaped with his dogs seconds before the house went up. He seemed more concerned about that guy than his shit.

this is incredibly sad. material things you can buy again, but all of his hard work? his music? his files? there's no way to regain that.

      :(

I saw Butch play live the night before this happened and he was supposed to play the next night but it was cancelled because of this. I've seen him tons of times. I had no idea he had a baby. Oh, and all the people who left those horrible comments, I hope every single one of them has their house burn down and I hope they lose everything that has every been important to them in their lives. I definitely hope that happens.

A fire devastates anyone it victimizes. Rest assured that the musical community will reach out to Butch, as musicians are like that. They're also more comfortable living out of a minimized suitcase than almost anyone, so that kind of resilience will serve him in good stead as he tries to recover his home base and get the feeling of having feet back under him. Fire strips your soul down to the bare essentials, and forces you to understand what's truly important in life. There will be some fine tunes coming out of this experience, no doubt. Help Butch if you know him, and anyone else who has lost their home in a fire, as aid and offers of aid are sometimes ALL they have left to hold onto.

      Oh no…
I feel so bad for Butch :(
He is an amazing songwriter, singer, producer, guitarist, musician etc etc etc.
      All the best!!!

I feel totally awful for him, BUT…
      .
After the last round of Malibu fires, just a few weeks earlier, who doesn't make arrangements to back up computer files, or put master recordings in a safer location? Song lyrics are easily backed up to a thumb drive. That is not something that only computer geeks know, it is something everybody knows.
      .
Meanwhile, I do have a heart and he must be absolutely sick at the loss.

Butch Walker is filthy rich. Maybe if he so desperate he can come back to the ATL and announce his self proclamation that he is the best musician is town. Or maybe he can play one more live set for 99X. What a DB!

I'm appauled by some of the readers here. I know butch decently and you couldnt ask for a nicer man. He cares about his family, his newborn, and everyone who is/has been in need. Something tragic happened to these people! How would you feel if you lost everything you worked so hard for?? Give him the decency of allowing him to mourn. He deserves that.

      212

Yes, it's hard to loose everything. But this guy has enough money to buy it all again. There are people out there who really really need help.

hey you guys, ive been a fan of butch walker for seven years and ive been to many many shows. he is the nicest rockstar ive ever met and also one of the true musicians left in this world. one time after a show we were all standing around waiting to talk to butch and the guy beside me realized his car had been towed. when butch found out he offered to give him the money to get his car back. how incredibly nice is that? i highly doubt all these celebrities that you guys idolize would even think twice. butch really cares about people and i cant believe the things you guys are posting about him. this is a tragedy. but butch will overcome it, just like he's overcome all the shit in the past. my thoughts are with him.

He'd be able to replace the essentials if he was smart and had renters insurance.

    16. mark says – reply to this

      216

try again. butch has more talent in the tip of his little finger than anyone you know has in their entire body. you sound like a sixteen year old failed musician living in his parent's basement who has nothing better to do than bash artists who have actually made it.

      217

Butch called in to his good friends who do the 99x morning show in Atlanta. He really wanted to stress that he is lucky can afford to replace what he lost due to insurance and his well-deserved earnings. He is most upset at losing the memories, such as pictures and the master tapes which he can never get back. He said he'll never have a studio in the house again. He is such a sincere down-to-earth guy who was just glad his friend was able to save his dog. He could care less about possessions.

Also in that radio interview, Butch stressed that he is wanting to put together a benefit for those who aren't as fortunate as him who have been affected by the fires. He'll bounce back. He's not looking at himself as a charity case by any means. He just wants to move forward and help those who need it. He's got an amazing heart.

      221

you people are pathetic. Butch Walker isn't some rich asshole who was just handed his money. The man worked his ass off for years to get the things he had. And it wasn't just guitars or baby clothes he lost. He lost family possessions that he had brought to the house from Atlanta. Nothing he has was just handed to him for nothing, he worked for it. I'm not saying that he deserves special sympathy. He isn't more special than anyone else who lost anything in the fires. But you're all gonna sit around and act like he deserved this to happen to him?
Just shut the fuck up and get over yourselves.

      1) STOP BEING JEALOUS. So he has SOME money? GET OVER IT.
      2) NO ONE DESERVES TO HAVE THEIR HOUSE BURNT DOWN. so why would you say that?
      3) KARMA REALLY IS A BITCH. so watch what you say, because you're next.
      4) Do ALL of you seriously keep all your valuable possessions where nothing will EVER happen to them? Because I SERIOUSLY doubt that everyone on here is constantly prepared for every natural disaster that could possibly take place at any second.
      5) Some of you people really need to get Mavis Beacon typing tutor. You can't spell to save your lives!!!
      6) He is barely "celebrity" status.
7)FUCK OFF, BUTCH WALKER OWNS. While he is out touring, producing for artists, writing, and living his life… YOU ARE PATHETICALLY SITTING AROUND BASHING PEOPLE ON PEREZ HILTONS WEBSITE ALL DAY. Why don't you go DO SOMETHING and then maybe you can make a little money for yourself. Or you can live in your fire-proof cave sitting around on the internet all day hating your life.

Butch is the nicest AND most talented musician I've ever listened to or met. Check out his music if you haven't heard of him. Or if you just know him as a producer/songwriter. Then come back here and judge. It shouldn't be hard, you all seem to have free time out the ass, to talk shit all day about people you don't know. Butch = VERY underrated singer and lyricist, with a great ear for melody, who never got promoted to the level his talent deserved. He's worked hard for everything. I'm also against our celebrity worship culture, but Butch is the real deal. Butch, ignore the haters with no heart, soul, or shred of humanity left. God bless you and I know you'll pull thru this!

Some of you people are heartless! It doesn't matter how exspensive the home that he was living in was. What he had in it was priceless. Memories, years of blood, sweat and tears, the house was a roof over his families head. It took him many yrs working hard just to buy the stuff he had in it. His loyal fans and his knowledge helped him to get to his accomplished state. He will recover, but i imagine it may take him longer than it would for someone who charges $50+ a ticket to see a show. Imagine the pain of losing all of the things that you worked so hard all for. Things saved for years.
He is one of the best things that ever happened to the music industry. He will survive. I am sure he doesn't need donations, but love and support. Not criticism from clueless people.
And WTF is all this "FIRST" shit who cares!

I feel awful for Butch, especially because his masters were lost. Some of you guys don't understand what it means to lose something like that. This man's life is his music and his fans; without his music he'd have no fans. Without his fans, he'd have no music. For a person to lose the very creation of everything he ever did is the most painful thing in the world. Please remember that and respect him and his love for his family, friends, and fans.

And CJ (#24), money and friends won't replace something like that. Try losing everything you've got and then come back to this. Whether you're a fan of Butch and his music or not, at least have the balls to be nice to him at this tragic time in his life.
