The Hollywood Reporter has released their annual list of the highest paid actress in Hollywood - topped by Reese Witherspoon this year.
All of the names included are dinosaurs that have been in the biz for ages, but there are a budding divas quickly climbing up the pay scale, including Katherine Heigl, Rachel McAdams and Jennifer Garner.
And this year's Top 10 Higest earners are:

I just dont get it. Im a full time nurse who went to years of schooling, I work in the emergency room in a hospital in NY, gun shot wounds, stab wounds, heart attacks, AIDS infected people, sick children, cancer patients…you name it. WHy dont I get all this money for helping sick people everyday of my life and these people get all this money…for what really? Majority time the movies bomb. They should not be paid so much for what they do. SOmething should be done about these actors getting such high salaries when people are poor, homeless, suffering with no way out. Why, so they can walk around with the latest CHanel bag? Not right.

The list makes sense in terms of the actresses that are big money makers from a long term perspective (not just 1 or 2 hits). However, I'm a bit surprised with Nicole and Renee and that they still command those numbers. They were on a roll for a while but not recently.

To even try to discuss this as far as what a person is "worth" in terms of their job, you are missing the whole point. The fact is, the people who actually make the movies get huge profits from them. So in the context of the profitability, why shouldn't the actors, who are the "bait" get the benefit. When a sports figure signs a contract to get twenty million a year for five years it's the same thing. It's entertainment. And the $$$ for entertainment is staggering. Why should an actor work for say, $50,000 when everyone stands to make millions bcz they are in a movie! When Reggie Jackson played for the Yankees, he had a salary dispute. He said that since people were coming to the games to see him, he should get a % of the gate. I don't know if he won his argument, but it was valid…at the time. Yeah, nurses, police and firement do a more important job. But this is the capitalism system and the market rules. No one pays $10 for a box of popcorn to watch a nurse empty a bed pan.

Hi, I am very close friends with the sister of a lady on that list (I am not going to say who) yes, I agree that it is not fair how little teachers, nurses etc.. are paid…it it disgusting in fact. But there really is a reason why it is important for actresses to demand such big $$$$. You must take into consideration the HUNDREDS of MILLIONS that studios make off of their work. In comparison, what actresses make. My friend has also told me that it takes millions for her sister to up keep the lifestyle that she needs to have ie: security and help. Also, agents can get up to 15% and then there are all the costs of looking good. My friend's sister has also commented that she can only keep making films while her "tits still point up", so she knows that whatever money she makes has to last for her whole life.

These actresses make that much money because that's how much they generate from us, the movie-goers.
