The First Reviews Are In
Miz Whitney Houston performed her big comeback concert at the Live & Loud music festival in Malaysia this weekend, and lucky PerezHilton.com reader Kyle was able to attend.
Here are his thoughts on the show:
"Hey P!
My name's Kyle and I just came back from the Live&Loud Music Festival in Kuala Lumpur, Malaysia on Saturday where Whitney Houston performed and made one of her first comeback shows. I could tell, the people went there just to see Whitney and even my partner and I forked out around USD$900 for the tickets. We were all up to see Whitney and arrived around 7.00pm when Elliot Yamin was performing. We waited and waited and finally Whitney came in around midnight with a silver top, matching pants and white trench coat. She sounded ok but her voice got husky and apparently she couldn't hit all the high notes in her top songs. She even sounded like Amy Winehouse at times! She told the audience she's dropping a new album soon and during rendering 'My Love is Your Love', her daughter joined her on stage to sing a duet. Overall, the performance was great but the voice was just ok. In fact, thousands who waited patiently since afternoon to see Whitney, sort of disappointed with that and left after she sang 3-4 songs. As much as I enjoyed the show, I must admit that I expect more of her. Perhaps she'll get better with time!

PS: I'm sorry I couldn't attach any video of the performance because the organizer warned the audience [3 times] that no recording or photographing is allowed during her performance. This didn't apply when Shaggy, Elliot Yamin and others were performing prior to her! Seems like she's still a diva after all!"

Well, she was a messed last night !! It was a disaster!! She appeared with all matching silver colour and she looked like she is pregnant (you will never believe it, she look like those British men with the beer belly!) Second apprearence with the purple dress and she kept on stepped on the dress!! My fellow friends agreed that she kinda losing plot and she doesnt look that confident anymore still Whitney thanks for coming …
PS : I prefer Shaggy performance than yours though, at least they communicate with the audiences

Good show. Definitely the best on the bill. Everyone was good but she was just in a different league. Her voice was really better than any singer I have heard live especially recently. And I was really listening. There's so much crap I wanted to see and hear for myself. The notes were controlled and full. She seemed to sing lower than her records but this girl is definitely one of the best. Saw a few other "divas" this year and she was better than all of them. Liked the way she didn't have the backup singers drown her out on the difficult parts of the song. If she missed a note you heard it. That's what I pay my money for. She looked good but with all the recent pictures that was expected. I will definitely buy her new cd

whitney was ok. I was just glad to see her perform again after all these years and it was a pity she started too late in the evening (12.30am for god's sake), I think more people would've stayed on. I agree with what daniel ali aman said. don't judge. thanks.
i was there, too. and we were all cheering for her. its the first time she's here, so we were really psyched. the crowd was chanting her name, and singing along to all her songs. she even came back for an encore. her purple dress was magnificent, while her first outfit did not do her body much justice. its great to see her up and healthy again, though she put on quite abit of weight. i enjoyed it very much, as her voice is just gorgeous. whitney rocked last night.

its not even her own concert, thrs elliot yamin, shaggy etc. and the tickets is not really 900 bucks per tickets! maybe she brought alot of frenz…..TAKE NOTE! the tickets are not really that expensive….(for seeing 3 or 4 international artists in one concert)!
I saw her live a few times before she was married. Had a great voice, a nice persona, but was not a good performer. Some can sing and perform (Celine), some can't do both.
I was there and I left after Heartbreak hotel…I was there since 3pm and left around 1. The setup was reallllyyyy slow….more then 30 mins for Whitney's performance…Despite waiting so long, i was dissapointed enough to leave
..she looked unfit too..spotted a tummy like britney's during the VMA'S…oh but the tickets were RM260…which is around USD 68….
I was there, and I felt bad for Kyle too… USD 900 for tickets? The normal pass was selling at MYR 262 which is approx USD 78 and the elite pass was at MYR 500 (approx 150) so how did the figure USD 900 came about?
Anyway, the overall it was great, Shaggy was da BOMB! Whitney was alright. The fans expect her to sing lots of the songs that she was best known for (eg: I will always love you, where do broken hearts go, one moment in time, saving all my love for you) but she did sing some of those but she also did songs like heartbreak hotel and it's not right but it's ok… which arent her trademark songs. And that was when people start to leave. But she closed the show with a bang with I will always love you and im every woman.
hey, im from sydney and i was there in KL to catch whitney. i got the vip pass which was MYR1200 and approx USD800-900…pretty much like kyle said. i kinda agree with kyle..although she still can sing, it wasnt a great performance after all..elliot n shaggy did better..but i like KL very much! xoxo
Good for her to get up there and try it again! We will have to wait to get the rest of th reviews to actually get the full story. But I think it's fantastic she is trying to make a comeback, and she's doing it smll and working upwards… hopefully! I know someone who should have a lot more class like Whitney.
Sh looks beautiful, she seems to have come a long way. But some of Whitney's newly conquered demons are pretty tough on the voice, lets hope with time…………..( okay, a girl can dream)

it's a little known secret that whitney houston has been a chain smoker of cigarettes since the 80's. of course she's going to sounds like crap after all the years of smoking cigarettes, and the weed she smoked. i don't know if she smoked crack but she got busted with weed so i'm assuming she was smoking it. smoking is lame.
Her problem was too much money and DRUGS!! She has ruined her vocal chords and will never sing well again.
Too sad to hear that Witney's voice is in such disrepair. This was truly one of the best voices to come along in the 80's; smooth, velvety with a glorious golden sheen. I used to sing and know for a fact that voices perish if you (as I did) do not take good care of your health. There are other reasons, too. Even if her range has become shorter, she could coach with an excellent vocal coach and maybe, maybe get something back. Do not chastise her for what she went through. WE ALL MAKE MISTAKES.

the usd 900 bucks are designated seats for the cushy rich at the back of the free standing section. of course it got boring after a while! i had the freestanding tix, right in front of the stage, so i was prolly 10 feet away from her. she was amazing! true, her voice wasnt how it used to be, but it's far from a shabby debut after such a difficult time…she was great and professional.
This is why I want to raise my children to hate those lazy crack smoking blacks like whitney. I am half black and it doesn't seem to matter how much I scrub, it just won't come off.

The whitney show (top of pops) was actually only 300 Ringgit which is like 90usd

Whitney is a singing legend but her voice isn't what it used to be. Still wish her well in her comeback as she is still probably better than some of today's so-called "stars". Elliott Yamin has the best sounding voice I've heard since Whitney was at her peak and that's been awhile! And he sings just as good or better live than recorded–quite possibly one of the best voices of all time. I expect we'll be seeing and hearing him all over creation.
Well, I hope she gets better. The last time she was in Hawai‘i (early 90s, I think), my mom and her friends went to the sold-out concert. My mom said that Whitney was stinking up the place. She couldn't reach her notes, was huffing and puffing on stage… Then, Bobby Brown came out (my mom had NO IDEA who he was) and started performing. According to everyone who went, he saved the show and Whitney's face. How ironic…
