The self-hating actress' new film, Awake, opened with a disappointing $6.01 million at the U.S. box office this weekend.
Perhaps moviegoers find Alba as unappealing as we do. Or maybe they just read the reviews, which savage the film and Don't Call Me Latina.
"Possibly the worst movie of 2007," said one reviewer.
And, countered another critic, "For what it's worth: The best Jessica Alba movie of the year!"

You need to get over that article. Jessica basically said that was how she was raised. Her grandfather wanted her family to be Americans and that was why he moved to America. It's a crazy thing but people live and feel differently about their ethnic identities. She never said she wasn't proud of her heritage, she just has had a different experience than other Latin American women. Why can't you get over it?

i won't pay a penny to see a movie with ms alba. not only she cannot act and i don't find her particularly attractive but it's her self-consciousness of her mexican looks and roots that irritates me the most. she should embrace her heritage and not try to pass as a white danish girl because she looks pretty much like a typical mexican woman. in that regard, i'm glad that her films will bomb at the box office. sometimes we need to feel the pain before we become humble and learn some gratitude for what who we are and what we have instead of tying to be other that who we are. it's a shame that her grandpa did not teach her to love herself as she is. perhaps some mental therapy can help with her low self-esteem. she may also take more acting lessons and cover herself a little to give the impression that she is selling her acting talents, not her body. hopefully she will grow up and accept herself for who she is.
I think it might of been the subject of the movie, I don't think anyone could have brought major bucks. Since being awake during surgery has actually happened, some people facing surgery are worried that they will wake up during surgery.addd the horror that the story is that the drs. are going to kill the patient and he can't do anything, doesn't make it attractive to those afraid of doctors/hospitals already. Especially if you have surgery coming up. Also, we are going into the holiday season, alot of people want up -lifting films.

I knew it was bad cuz it wasn't screened for critics beforehand. Alba can't act & she keeps making bad choices. Her next film is 'The Eye' & they had to do reshoots on that one — not a good sign.
Me and My boyfriend both LOVED this movie and i told everyone that i saw today to go see it. It keeps you guessing throughout the entire movie and hayden is amazing in it. THIS MOVIE WAS REALLY GOOD!!!!! I saw it this weekend and Jessica Alba isn't even the main character. So stop hating on the movie just because shes in it. The actual story was a lot better than I expected. It has a very strong ending and I highly recommend it to anyone who loves a movie with meaning.

I don't know what the critics are talking about. This was an entertaining movie. And Hayden and Alba both gave decent performances (although I was struck by how odd his voice sounds). Ebert and some of the other elite critics actually liked the film. The rest seem mean-spirited and don't want to forgive Hayden for his misguided Anakin portrayal.
I didn't think this movie was "the Worst Movie of the Year" or a bad performance by Jessica Alba at all. The ending was maybe a little bit disappointing. But I definitely felt this movie had you on the edge of your seat! I thought it was a good movie… I don't understand why people are making this out to be a terrible movie and Jessica Alba's terrible performance. Some people are just too critical and can never be pleased…
