I don't have a problem with her opinion. Why would you encourage a child to behave in a way that will make the rest of their lives more difficult. If they grow older and harbor these feelings all on their own, you deal with it and support them from there, but why encourage them to go against the grain simply for diversities sake. There is nothing wrong with boys being boys and girls being girls. We are not the same. We are equal, but we are not the same.

I just wanted to point out that a Kilt is not a skirt. Women don't wear them, only guys do. I just wonder if that woman would have the same problem with her daughter dressing in guys clothing. It happens all the time and nobody says much about it if a girl wants to walk around in baggy jeans and tshirts and cut her hair short, people can pretend they don't notice it. It is less easy to turn a blind eye to a guy in a frock, it seems unfair that they should get a harder time becasue of it.

For the record and in the spirit of full disclosure, Let me first say that I had the opportunity to work with Sherri last year and found her to be a top professional with a great sense of humor. On a more personal side, however, I did not think she was very bright. Now she is on the View and all the world can see what I am talking about. She takes black folks back 50 years. Thank God for Whoopi who is quick to correct her. Her most recent episode with respect to her little boy wearing a dress is just disgraceful. She took a harmless classtime activity and turned it into something sinister insinuating that her son would have gay sex in the home if allowed to play with girls dolls and dresses. She is seriously a liability to the show and an idiot!

I'm not sure Sherri has done anything wrong? I understand it was a little harsh, but she did say if her son was gay that she would accept him. As for wearing dresses, it is not the norm to be a man running around in a dress for some people…if that is the way she feels then she should not be judged for it. There are many people in the world that feel that way and all she did was express her opinion. Unfortunatly being transgendered and a homosexual is a scary word for some ignorant people, but she is in no way bashing the gay or transgendered community.

It's really insane that everyone has to be so cautious of their opinions. If she does not want her son wearing dresses - that's her right as a parent. Just like a parent has a right to raise their child Catholic, Protestant, Buddhist or whatever they'd like. Children are just that - children. Parents are here to do what they think is best. Not to give kids a blank check to do whatever they want.

We are a country of freedoms - but not everyone gets to do everything they want to do. This mentality is what is wrong with this country. the constitution says that all men have the right to "Life, Liberty and the pursuit of happiness". NOT life, liberty and happiness. Not all people get everything they want.

Perez, I believe you feel she did it again because you are gay and don't agree with her value system and style for parenting. I think she was quite appropriate in sharing "her" beliefs. She did not say that anyone had to agree with her, she just stated how she was raising "her" son. I am a mother of an adult gay son. I don't disagree with her although I did not withhold things like dolls from my son. He had a cabbage patch and an Alvin doll in spite of the protest of many of my friends husbands. I am college educated and teach counseling on a college level and I do not believe allowing a child to dress up from time to time or allowing them to play with a doll will "cause them to become gay. I believe it is much more far reaching than that. I do believe however, that everyone is entitled to their opinion and that is her opinion. You are certainly entitled to yours, aren't you? I'm not so sure some of the other panelists were being as honest as she was.

Why are people upset with Sherri - she absolutely has the right to express her opinion on the subject and although her peers on the view claim to be open minded towards the idea of children "dressing up"- I highly doubt that they would be so laissez-faire if it was their own children exhibiting preferences towards the opposite sexes toys, clothing etc… Sherri is not wrong for saying or feeling this way the MAJORITY of North Americans have this view as well as many European countries about raising children. She does not have to adjust her view to fit in what is now considered "politically correct" points of view or contemporary media influenced theories for raising children. It is odd for a child to have an orientation towards toys, and clothing of the opposite sex and that is nothing new.

Sherri is not ignorant for expressing her opinion. She said nothing outlandish or far-fetched. She did not rant against gays or anything to that naure. She simply said that her son would not wear a dress while he lived in her house. Point taken.
Guess what, I'm raising my son exactly the same way. I have house rules that he has to obey. When he turns 18 and moves out, he can live the lifestyle that he wants to live. At that point, I can only hope that I have instilled enough morals and values in him by that time so he can make the right decisions.

I'm so tired of how this show is so one sided. People complain about freedom of speech and when someone with an opposing opinion voices that right we jump down their throats. Sherri has every right to voice what her child does! That is the beauty of parenting just like choosing the religion you will raise you son/daughter. If those are the morals and character traits that she wants to instill in her child that is perfectly fine and we as Americans need to stop interjecting whenever someone says something that is "conservative" Please be thankful that we have the choice to raise our children as we see fit and not chracterize them as swear words.
