They are expected to visit Machu Pichu and other local ruins.

      Do you think perhaps Peru isn't the best place for someone with substance abuse problems and a fragile mental state? Cocain is legal there. Maybe they're not going to hike up mountains but rather "play in the snow".

      Starfire… I am from Peru, cocaine is not legal there! Yes, there is a tea made out of coca leaves, but it does nothing. Locals and travelers drink it to cope with the altitude. Sure, if he wants to get drugs, he will get it and it doesn't matter where he is.

When Mr. Harrelson was here in good ol' Minnesota filming "A Prairie Home Companion" apparently he was wildin out of control… cuz my lil bro who was only 17 (and under age at the time) met Woody and Brett while cliff jumping, and that somehow turned into a weeklong potfest….       There's nothing wrong with Peruvian coca tea. I'm Peruvian and I went to Machu Picchu 2 years ago and I had coca tea to help with the effects of the high altitude. It doesn't get you high or anything. Everyone who goes to Cuzco and Machu Picchu is advised to drink some as soon as they get there because some ppl get really sick. And cocaine is not the same as the coca leaf and cocaine is not legal in Peru. Get your facts straight people! :)

      YeaH!!! I love peru, I'm going next year to macchu picchu, I can't wait. Last time I was there my uncle did give me some coke and it was pretty powerful. But like everyone says the tea is only for altitude. The weather there is so perfect, no mosquitos, fresh air.

      1.whats wrong with the tea??..yes it is made out of coca leaves…but for the coca leaves to become cocaine it has to be chemically processed..the coca leaf, just like chamomille, is used as a tea to calm you.

      3.yes! it is easier to get your hands on alcohol and drugs than in the US but that doesn't mean that that's what Peru is all about. its an amazing country and not as awful as sometimes the media tends to portray it

      I am from Peru and like few people in here know that cocaine is not legal in there and like Canada you can get it here too, and in any part of the world. The Tea, Perez! if you don't know doesn't do anything but help you to don't get dizzy, vomit or passout because of the altitud where Cuzco is located. Get informed and let them enjoy it, because drugs you can get it anywhere!!!!!!!!!!

      coca tea is the best, and its NOT a "drug"; it only has the precursors of cocaine (you need a tons of coca leaves to actually produce any significant amount of the drug). in fact you can bring prepackaged coca tea bags back to the US. everyone chill out.

      What a glorious time they will have at Machu Pichu. My son met an Aussie fellow traveler there and because they were one of the few who were not overcome by the altitude they were able to hike all over, as best they could because your body is slow to respond due to the lack of oxygen. In the pictures they were sweating bullets but reveling in their achievement. He said it was a lifetime experience not to be missed.

      anyone been to manu? i lived in san pedro for a while, and visited a lot of sites in the amazon basin. though machu picchu is the big draw, anyone interested in nature, or who wonders why we should try to preserve the environment needs to go see what the world looks like in an unadulterated state (well, for the most part). yay ecotourism being on the rise!!
