Still Sexist

wenn1410625__opt.jpg

Arnold Schwarzenegger has been accused of sexual harassment countless times, and it seems like those experiences have not changed his view of women one bit.

The governor of California tells Entertainment Tonight about his wife, Maria Shriver:

"She has big responsibilities being the first lady, author of all of those books, taking care of the family, and taking care of me. She has her hands full. If you have a family and you have children, you know that the women actually end up doing much more of the work than the guys do."

Why you gotta be perpetuating stereotypes, Arnie?

Just look at Britney and K-Fed! Ha!

he is not being sexist. He is at least intelligent and honest enough to realize that women do in fact do most of the work in a family. It has always been that way and it will continue to be that way. Men are not smart or fast enough to multi task like women do.

what part is stereotypical perez? the part about women doing more of the work in a traditional set up with a husband and wife has proven to be true. I wish it weren't so but it is. Yes, I know this from personal experience. I make more $ than my husband and work just as many hours, but I am still doing ALL the housework and the majority of childcare. Now for all you flamers, I'm not complaining, I'm just asking, what part are you talking about that is perpetuating it? He's talking FACT

As a support staff member for a CA senator, I've been involved with Arnold's office and been in many meetings and events with the not so big man for the last few years. He is a joke as an official. The only time he comes across as professional or eloquent is when he's memorized the lines other people have written for him. His wife, though I don't always agree with her, is much more intelligent than he is.

That said, he is totally correct in this statement, you've posted. Our society is still stuck in the rut of expecting women to do the lion's share of household and family responsibilites. I come home from my 9 hours of work, have to get dinner ready every night and help the kids with the homework before I hopefully can get my husband's assistance putting them to bed. And my husband is a champ. He works 10 hours a day! That's what all of us have to do these days, if we don't want to bank to foreclose on our homes.

I wish Arnold would take the ball and run with this topic, because the world is only know starting to glimpse the effects the undermining of a healty family unit is going to do to our society. Instead of throwing so much money at stupid studies about why inmates get sick so often, or other bullshit like that, Arnold and his cronies should be spending money on better after school programs and assistance for the working poor. Cause today's children of the working poor are tomorrow's inmates, if things don't get better.

    56. a2girl says – reply to this

      56

    65. Annie says – reply to this

      65

He's not perpetuating a stereo-type my non-married friend. He is in fact stating a truth. Women do alot more than men do in the home. There are children to be taken care of. Clothes to be washed. Dishes to be cleaned. Not to mention other house work, paying bills, and taking care of the "Man of the House" who feels he works the hardest of anyone. I'm sure she does have her hands full because let's face it. Between him and his wife, who do YOU think takes care of the kids more? That's right the nanny…LoL…But seriously, I'm sure the wife has a more active role in the children's lives. Even woman who work outside of the house, and then have to come home and do everything…cook dinner, clean, kids, etc.

My husband has a very hard job, but he gets to come home from it every night. I don't. I am at work 24 hours a day, 7 days a week. And you know what? It gets really hard! I would like to be able to take a vacation, I wouldn't mind calling in sick. I wouldn't even mind a paid holiday here and there.

So before you go and start saying things that you obviously have no clue about, you may want to rethink things a bit.

    66. Kimberly says – reply to this

      66

AHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHH NO, he is not being sexist, he is being honest. Unitl you have been a woman in a marriage with children you really have no room to make any comment on the subject. And as for Britney and K-Fed, well there are two examples of regular people doing it on their own. HELLOOOOOO???!!! Neither one of them DO a dam thing, they have their people do all the work for them - and those people looking after the kids are likely? ya women!! You chose to have children. You chose to have a morgage and you accepted the interest rate on that morgage. Child care and loan payments from the bank are all yours. Many people rent and many do not have children but all people can get sickl. You must love your job.

It's not really sexist what he says, it's true. Despite all the women rights we have come to have. Globally, women are more often the primary caregivers than men, despite also having full time careers & more often than not, are the ones responsible for household duties. If you doubt it, look at the statistics. If anyone is interested, there is some very interesting reading by Dr. Marilyn Waring, who looks at the division of labour & work by women globally from an economic standpoint. Very interesting stuff, a lot of her work validates this very point, that women do indeed do much more of the work than men.
And I'm not a feminist nor am I insulting men, I'm simply talking about the FACTS.

    71. holiday says – reply to this

      71

It's not "sexist". The women do the majority of the work, that's why they are to be respected and he's giving her just that in his comments. Sincerity seems to escape you on so many levels. It's men like you that keep women down, think about it. You hate on everyone that does not fit your stereo type or makes you feel big and important. You kick and scream about others who you view as being discriminatory, but you are one of the biggest offenders out there… showcases just how small and closed off you really are.
But I like your work. It's entertaining in a lowbrow kind of way and that's always fun for a bit. So, thanks.

My husband and I both work, and I do almost all the work at home, too. Same goes for the MAJORITY of other couples I know. The woman is STILL the primary housekeeper/caregiver in the home. The reason why is not Arnold's fault…blame their gd mothers for not teaching them anything. I see it all the time. My sister is guilty of the same thing. She's got a 15 year old boy who can't or won't clean his own damn bathroom. I shoulda had kids…my boy would be the "Molly Maid" of the neighborhood. lol

    84. gloria steinem says – reply to this

      84

      THANKS PEREZ!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

I for one agree with Perez. It's not that Schwarzenegger is just stating a fact, which you're right, he is, it's that (at least in this quote) he's totally complacent about it. He isn't saying, 'Maria does much more than her share of the work, and that's wrong, and we're trying to fix that.' He's like, well, too bad for her, but that's the way it is and always has been and always will be. Lucky me that I have a penis.

Coming from a politician, that's not acceptable. I know many families, my own included, in which the men do their half of the work, including child care. This is because they are secure enough in their masculinity to take on supposedly "women's" work (read: drudgery), they love their wives, and they know what's right.

It's not sexist at all… he's just one of the few men out there that will admit that women do most of the work. It's true… most women are in the workforce yet are still responsible for the kids, home, education… yadda, yadda, yadda. To tell you the truth, as much as I love the fact that women have more rights, the "women's lib" deal only made women not only continue their responsibilities at the home, but made most men expect that women need to bring in an income as well. There's nothing stereotypical about what Arnie said…he's just telling it like it is.

Blacks are better athletes too, which is a sterotype, but look at their numbers in professional sports!! It is s sterotype becasue there is so much truth to it. I'm no Arnie supporter, but his statment is not "bad" at all. You need a reality check, Perez.

YOU'RE the one perpetuating stereotypes, Perez.

    91. Marlee says – reply to this

      91

That is not a sexist comment at all. The truth of the matter is that women do in fact have more responsibilities than men. They often face the double standard of working outside of the home and then are forced to do most of the housework and take care of the children. This of course is not true for all families, but the majority of North American women are feeling a strain from working outside and inside the home. Arnold is merely acknowledging this fact, which i think is actually very good, considering many men do not acknowledge women's hard work.
