Acts Of Stupidity

David Blaine is planning his latest stunt - to break the word record for staying awake the longest.

The previous world record is 11 1/2 days.

Explains Blaine of his latest endurance stunt:

"It's been tried before. In 1959, Peter Tripp stayed awake eight days, but it resulted in permanent brain damage. In 1964, 17-year-old Randy Gardner did it for a high school science project. He lasted 11½ days but recovered fully. No damage. A guy in London tried but fell short. Another did 19 hours but slept two hours each night, so that doesn't count. Also he was seated in a rocking chair. If I do this thing, which you claim I'm doing, I'll do it on my feet. Standing up.

After 36 hours of sleep deprivation it's like being drunk, 72 hours and paranoia sets in, Day Four the mind goes into hallucinations and you're dreaming while awake. The problem is there's no way to know how to offset brain damage or to train for this because there isn't sufficient research. I believe the first guy's mistake was not being in great physical condition. Also he used stimulants to keep awake, which I assume did him in.

All that I do will be open and documented. My income's going to the Brooke Medical Center, which helps kids, and my research to science. For instance, we already know dietary restriction is a retardation of aging and disease. When you overeat your body must work and it gets tired. If I eat medicinally, my body will be entire.

I'm dropping 30 pounds. I do two hours every day on the treadmill. I'm on a raw diet that includes brown rice. No red meat. No animal products besides cooked fish."

Good luck with that.

Nutjob!

bob i was thinking the same thing, i used to be a hard-core tweaker and after a while, the body "falls out" and there isn't any control over that, i know tweakers who claim to have stayed up for 25 days+(of course i never believed them), the longest i could ever stay up was 8 days and by that time i was out of my head, partially from the drugs, but the sleep deprivation really is stronger than any drug out there. i know ppl who have been up 15 days without falling out, and not by heresey but i know beyond a shadow of a doubt so thats why its a little hard to believe that the world record is 11ish days(unless they mean 11 days without any drugs to aid them, which i doubt). "world records" always seem bogus to me anyhow.

Re: elizabitch – Your right, he does want attention, and he gets it. More people show up to watch his stunts than know you are alive. Jealousy is a bitch, isn't it?

Brooke Medical Center is not for kids. It's where the wounded Army soliders go to be treated for their burns, amputations and other injuries. At least he should know what he is donating to. If he is indeed donating his income.

He is a brilliant person, legendary magician and has the self-descipline worthy of performing such incredible stunts.

It is refreshing to have a different form of entertainment that stimulates our thoughts and challenges our own self-discipline… all the while contributing invaluable information to the medical field.

Whether or not he is able to break the record– he sets his mind for something and goes for it…. such a sexy trait!

I broke this record 5 years ago when I was a meth addict. Not so special.
