Actually, Perez, The Golden Compass did extremely well in the U.K even breaking box office records on the opening day, doing even better than the Chronicles of Narnia and is deemed to be the biggest December release….so give Nicole a break. xxx

No, the Golden Compass didn't do as well because there are lame-ass people out there who can't just see a movie for entertainment. They have to go and read way too much into it and claim that this particular film turns children away from religion. I saw the movie last night, and had I not been told about the latest controversy, I wouldn't have even thought about it! It was a seriously good film (for children's movies anways..), and I didn't think Nicole sucked at all! Not one of her best, but not one of her worst; by far! Stop ragging on her, please. Leave Nicole alone, why do u hate her so? the movie has done really well so far in other countries, all of nicoles movies have been a hit with the critics besides like 3 or something so stop paying her out and calling her movies 'commercial disasters' just cos they might not do as well as other movies doesnt mean they aren't good.
I was a bit dissappointed, but I'll still go see the sequals. I think the movie appealed to the 13 and under group more than adults.

usually they're making something out of nothing (she is a Christian btw) and she walked out after 75% of the movie because she was so bored. Save your money ladies and gents! And if this movie does bad it has nothing to do with psyco-catholics. Harry Potter was a MAJOR target for those Catholic groups that probably didn't even read the books, and it's like the second higest grossing film of all time.

I saw the movie last night and I honestly thought it was amazing. Nicole Kidman was actually really good in it. I think people need to lighten up. Yes, this book does take a hit on organized religion but the movie was not as intense as the book by far. Forgive me for enjoying movies and books that mean something instead of the usual mass media garbage people consume on a daily basis.

Perez, get your facts right (or at least use websites that are slightly more factual). The Golden Compass reportedly cost around 160 million to make. 8.6 million is a disappointing opening night but it's hardly terrible and a 30 million opening weekend isn't bad at all. The movie is doing well in other countries. Critics with actual decent taste really enjoyed the movie (probably because they didn't have an agenda going in).
Not only that but the movie itself was pretty good. Not as good as Harry Potter or LOTR but way better than Narnia.
And Kidman is amazing in the movie. Get over yourself, Perez!
P.S. Religion is what's ruining this country. Hooray for people brave enough to stand up against theocratic fascism!!!

I own the trilogy of books that The Golden Compass belongs to. (It's based on the first book in the series.) The books are awesome! The movie was pretty good, but I was a little underwhelmed I suppose you could say. *shrugging*

Look, I go to church often, but I can't see what all of the fuss and controversy is over all of this! Yes the author is an aethiest, but there's no anti-Christian elements in the books or movie. Yes, there is a large and corrupt religous sect called the "Magesterium" that seeks to control people and be a dominating force in all of the universes, but it's not "Catholic". This is FICTION work people! I mean, there are talking polar bears in the story for crying out loud. Get over yourselves!

As for Nicole being box office poison… she actually did an exceptionally good job playing Mrs. Coulter in the movie. She had just the right amount of beauty and evil in her- just like her character in the books. She can't help it if the screenplay and dialogue sucked. She didn't write the damn thing. Also, these stories are HUGE over in the U.K. and other parts of the world. The U.S.A. isn't everything Perez. Just because a film doesn't do well here, doesn't mean it's a complete failure as a whole. It broke box office records over in England, so deal with it!

I really enjoyed the movie! Perez is Playing into the Christian freaks hands. I figured a movie that gets them angry must be good and it was. Nicole was fabulous. Her evilness was superb! The movie left you hanging to read the books! Get over it Perez, she is a real star. I love her!

Saw it last night & actually enjoyed it. I feel bad for Nicole but all good things must come to an end. She's still a great actress & she'll continue to be a great dramatic actress even without the commercial films. I hope she gets an Oscar nomination for 'Margot at the Wedding' just to piss off Perez.
