Box Office Poison

She's done it again!

Nicole Kidman's latest movie is a stinker!

The Golden Compass under-performed and was a big disappointment at the U.S. box office this weekend.

Yet another bomb to Nicole's string of commercial disasters!

OMG!!!!! She looks 65 years old! Her teeth are yellow, her hair is grey, her lipliner is running, and her neck looks like a turkey. No wonder her husband cheats.

Wow, it's number one at the box office. They must be so disappointed to only come in first place. We saw the movie with the kids and loved it.

This is a doctored photo. Just look at the lipstick on the right side of her mouth and compare that to the left side of her mouth.

This was a great fantasy movie. The Fundies got it wrong again, just like they did with Harry Potter.

I went to this movie on Friday and expected the theatre to be sold out, but there were open seats sparatically throughout. I have to say that my boyfriend and I really really enjoyed this movie and can't wait for the sequel! I think that this movie might not have opened large, but may end up making the kind of money they were expecting through word of mouth and people gradually watching it throughout its time at the movie theatres. :)

I read that article, and it's not accurate. The movie did not cost more than $200 million. It cost $180. It has not been a big dissappointment at the box office. New Live Cinema hoped it would rake in $30 million during the opening weekend, but it just took in $26.1 million. New Line's exact words for this were "a bit dissappointing." But as for the overall international gross, it is $81 million. And the film still has at least seven more weeks at the box office. Saying that the film is a big bomb is too damn premature.

The movie is based on a trilogy of books that, as the author said, intends to "kill God" for kids. YES there has been a backlash against this movie. The actual movie itself downplays the anti-God sentiment, but the books (which will sell because of the movie) promote atheism and show the Christian religion as (from what I understand) an evil form of societal control. This may not pose a problem to a lot of Perez Hilton readers but parents should know the philosophy behind the story before they shell out their cash.

Its becoming more and more apparent you only report what is convenient for your web page. I'm sorry to find out that you only report half the news. The movie was #1 in the US. The link you used to describe this movie was a petty sorry ass website with no credibility. The movie was good and its doing very well. You must not have full control of your website anymore. Maybe the people you have working for you should do some more research before posting somthing and the link that goes to the source.
      Get it together Perez.

The fact that Christians are getting so upset about the movie and telling people not to see it, just proves the message in the movie even more! They are afraid that the movie may make people think, and if they think and realize organized religion is bullshit, the Church loses power. Thanks for proving our point!

      Re: Melissa

It's not all Chrsitians, it's the Catholic Church. Many of my regular nobody Christians friends couldn't care less about this movie, and if we are offended (which a lot of us probably) we're not going to tell people not to see it, we just won't watch it ourselves. The crazy zealots also told us not to watch Harry Potter but how many Christians listened to that?? Well, all my Christian friends love Harry Potter and think those people who are telling the masses not to read it are insane.
On a side not Christian is not the same thing as Catholic. There are many different branches of Christianity and even though Catholicsm is the most popular, doesn't mean every Christian is a Catholic. I don't listen to Pope John Paul whatever his name is. My belief is in God, not the Catholic church (which I'm not even a part of).
No one proved your point, they were just offended. I would feel the same way if they had a message that said "All black people are stupid dirty monkeys". It's not because I'm afraid people are going to watch it and "realize that it's true" it's because I think it's absolutely ridiculous and insulting.

      Re: SB

Because all those other movies that were playing were mediocre as well, and had been showing for around 2 weeks already at the time this movie came out nonetheless! Just because a film comes out on the top spot against a bunch of other crappy movies, it doesn't mean it actually did well. It's like being the smartest person in a room full of Republicans. Could you imagine what slot it would have been over the summer?? Pirates, Transformers, Spiderman, Shrek, Harry Potter. This shit-tastic film would have been at like Number 432. And I hope you do realize that New Line was expecting this movie to be on the scale of those other movies I mentioned above, so you can't compare it with movies like "Antonement" that took like only $15 million to make.

Oh, bitch PLEASE. If this movie "bombs" at all, you can thank all those hypocritical overly-religious fucktards for banning, bitching and boycotting anything and EVERYTHING to do with this film. They are obviously masters of inducing guilt in children (and even parents), so you can thank THEM for steering hoards of other overly-religious/sheeplike people away from seeing it at their local theaters.

Hence, that said, most "reviews" or "numbers" will only refelect that–NOT how good (or bad) the film actually was.

All in all, GO SEE IT FOR YOURSELF, AND JUDGE ON YOUR OWN. Don't listen to this obviously jaded/unfair bullcrap brought on by the Catholic schoolboards and the like.

WTF?! This movie was excellent! It just goes to show people don't know good shit anymore. I thought it was a kiddie flick until I saw the first 2 minutes and then I was like, OH SHIT…this is good. And I am going back to see it again, just because it's the kind of thing you want to watch again and make sure you didn't miss anything. Excellent performances too…IAN MCKELLEN and Christopher Lee…you know all you LOTR and STAR WARS freaks wanna check it out. Fuck what other people say. Be your own person. Watch it and then encourage others to do the same.

      PEACE!

    42. DONT WASTE YOUR MONEY! says – reply to this

      442

This movie was BS. I cannot believe I wasted all that money to watch this crapper of a movie, I canNOT believe I added to their numbers. Honestly, they didn't even deserve the 20 some million they got off this shittacular CGI fest they call "Golden Compass". I actually argued with the manager about getting my money back after having sat there bored out of my mind for a good 1 hour and 15 minutes (I couldn't take it anymore) but obviously they turned me down. If anyone wants to watch a GOOD fantasy, try Lord of the Rings, Narnia, Stardust or Harry Potter.
I actually expected waaaay more people to be in the theater that I was in because that's what usually happens with big releases like this but there were only like 20 other people in the room! And the theater I'm speaking of seats close to 300. That should have been my first clue but obviously my dumbass self didn't figure that out until it was too late. I doubt it had anything to do with Nicole Kidman or the Catholics though.
The only other time I have ever walked out of a theater before the movie was over was when my 7 year old sister made me go see that Lindsay Lohan movie "Confessions of A Teenage Drama Queen" a few years back.

How is it being your own person if you`re telling them to watch and tell others to do the sameÉ What if they geniunely don`t like the movie (like the majority of people I know). If they listen to you they`re not “being their own person“.

And as for Nicole, damn her age is really starting to show, i guess she should start looking for other type of roles, she cant play the hot chick no more.
