Nearly every celebrity gets involved with charities to help their image. If they weren't a celebrity, would they start organizations and charities?? Most likely not. I think this time she truly was affected by what happened with the dog, however, she may have gone a little overboard with her reaction to it all (she did basically ruin that organization's reputation from here on out). I think this is her way of taking the incident to another level. Since her coming out though, she's certainly done a major over haul in regards to her image. She couldn't get work immediately after for years but now she's bigger than ever. She put the gay factor on the back burner and now addresses more pressing issues. I think she's awesome!

I don't think her motivation matters here as much as the positive outcome this project will bring. Ellen is a very caring individual, and her Iggygate didn't mar her reputation at all, but the injudicious beaurocratic decision making regarding Iggy's placement sure had me shaking my head and heart.

Thank you Ellen for helping those that cannot speak for themselves. I have wondered why no one has come forward to start rebuilding shelters across the countries. There are so many wealthy people that could help in this effort, where are they?

Why should everyone down the chain from the WGA suffer because the WGA wants MORE money? You'll complain about the money that the writers aren't getting this Christmas and in '08 (because of a decision THEY made). I think that's wonderful, I wish she could come to Canada and help the animal shelter that I work at. It needs a nice sprucing up, needs new cat scratch towers, the floors have seen better days and the walls need a new coat of paint. It would certainly brighten the volunteers up day to day, and make the animals alot more comfortable. Way to go Ellen! I look forward to seeing the shelter transformations.

Feck her! I am SOOO tired of Ellen and her non-altruistic endeavors that do nothing other than attempt to improve her image.

1) Iggygate was the first sign to everyone that the "rules" do not apply to her. She used (abused) her show and celebrity to exploit the animal shelter that adopted the dog out to her in an attempt to bully them into returning the dog.

2) THEN she scabs the picket lines by continuing her show production, citing the needs of her support staff and her desire to keep them employed. Again, feck her! She could easily pay the salaries of the support staff while still publicy supporting her writers. Why didn't she simply do that? Because she is a whore for the network who wants new shows, interviews and coverage of current events.

3) Many people who support the strike have boycotted Ellen and hurt her standing in the public eye. This animal shelter is her latest public relations attempt to change the way people think about her.

Ellen clearly cares about animals; that's not the point. She cares more about her career and her image than anything else. Actions speak louder than words. Never forget that, and then remember what she's done and not what she's said. Feck her!

I believe her motives are altruistic - this drama with the shelter from where she obtained Iggy has likely opened her eyes to the backwards, out of date and sometimes downright careless happenings in animal shelters around America and the world. At least she is doing something positive I commend her for that , I do dislike her for the theatric production she put on about Iggy which resulted in Moms & Mutts inability to adopt out & rescue more dogs. You know you can't just pull a stunt like that on National television with out causing some sort of negativity which unfortunately affected the dogs at shelters. Whatever her motive this will help many animals & hopefully educate the public to adopt rather than buy.

I totally agree with your commentary. But I think that her getting involved with animal rescue will bring back the Iggy "saga" again. It has been reported that Ellen Degeneres has had as many as 9 dogs that she has adopted only to give back or regift and I think people who are knowledgeable about the other 8 or so Ellen dog returns may come forward. During the Iggy "saga" Keri Randles a hollywood producer came forward with her story of Ellen regifting a dog that she had given to Ellen herself. I think that this could backfire on Ellen if she is infact trying to use this as a way of cleaning up her image. This could create more bad pr for her. After the last few months, if I were Kelly Bush (Ellen Degeneres's publicist) I would find another gig because at this rate she will be putting out "fires" from now until Ellen retires. Ellen is definetly unraveling…
