All of these "permalancers" are still wokring there despite these horrible conditions. Why? Just so they can say that they worked for MTV, or Viacom or VH1. If you don't like it, leave. No company HAS to pay benefits, they only have to pay wages. The problem is that so many out of high school or college want to work in TV that they are willing to take these positions for little pay, same goes for entry-level in the sports industry. Unfortunately, Viacom nows that if you won't do the job somebody else will, on their terms. As long as there are people willing to do the job for the money and hours offered, they are going to keep having people to do the job.

Just goes to show that the entertainmnet industry isn't as glamarous as it seems to be now is it.

Re: Amber – being that you seem to have a very limited vocabulary let me say this in lamens terms. this viacom thing obviously has absolutely nothing to do with you . you aparantly know no one who works in the industry and do not care about your fellow human beings. so since i'm spelling this out n.i.c.e a.n.d s.l.o.w i am done arguing with you. you have nothing of value to say and i am finished with this petty shit. i believe one thing and you believe the wrong thing it is what it is. aparantly you think it's ok that so many americans do not have healthcare let's see you lose yours and see how smug you are. though i have enough money to pay for my own i have many friends and coworkers that are not so lucky. so unlike you who is only interested in yourself i actually care about other people and will do whatever i can to try to help them get proper coverage so they can be treated when they are sick and have the medicine they need to get better. so you can write back in response if you want but please know i'm no longer listening.

      sincerely yours
      a self proclaimed c.u.n.t

Re: Amber – one small thing yourself is one word. aparantly they don;t teach you that in the trailer park. your mom is completely right. everyone should have healthcare . and freelance is not temp work when you work on a tv show it is all freelance so you can switch to other shows or networks if you want to. so it's not temp work. and its nto that they aren't getting benifits it's that they had them and then viacom took them away. i think everyone talking all this shit should get their facts straight before they start talking smack. and when you start refering to people as cunts and fat asses just as a quick fyi people stop listening to what your saying. when you have to resort to that kind of language it shows the world that your obviously not well educated. just a bit of advice next time you decide to go on a rant about cunts.

Y'all do realize that since you are all free lancers and not staff, it would be simple for Viacom to simply release everyone… You chose to enter the glamarous world of Television and now you have to reap what you have sown. It sucks, I know, but you wanted to be in this particular industry and now that you are you want more. You could always be unemployed…

Why don't they go out and find real jobs? Probably because they are mostly untalented people who can't get hired anywhere else. Could be why MTV sucks so much now. Obviously MTV can't be giving away new bennies when they are so far into the shitter. I'd be careful, temps can be let go at any time.

Re: Dee – you are totally right. my bad i made 1 typo but it was clearly a missed key stroke not an obvious lack of knowledge for the english language and spelling in general.

Re: Not Telling – How is it an equal rights issue? No one is forcing them to work there. Company's don't OWE you anything, they pay you for a product. Not happy with the exchange? Move on.

worked THERE (idots! the above grammar is correct: "THEIR" is possessive) at MTV for years. As a corporation, Viacom/MTV/Nickelodeon/VH1/Spike TV/CMT/etc,…has "real" departments like accounting, IT, operations, marketing, and legal also staffed mostly with permalancers, in addition to industry specific departments staffed mostly with permalancers. Also, permalancers are paid even less than freelancers at MTV. Permalancers will be moved onto a new project when their current project ends. Freelancers are hired project to project. And "lazy," my ass. You think TV gets made inside of a 40 or 50 hour work week?
