oh sweet meat, i think you'd better do some research on this universal healthcare shit. not good at all. nothing like waiting 6-9 months to have bypass surgery, or waiting 9-12 months for hip replacement. now i'm not saying that our's doesn't need an overhaul, but the universal stuff will NEVER go over here!

Sure, universal healthcare sounds great, until you need surgery for your severely broken leg. Well, it takes a few months for you to get that surgery (months of pain), and by that time your leg has heeled deformed. Yea for universal healthcare!
Like the band. And seriously, Perez, from a Canadian now in America, the Canadian healthcare system is just as bad as yours. Just because it's free doesn't mean it's good. And often times, people never get treated at all. Healthcare for all is important, but you cannot pretend the Canadian system is wonderful. It isn't.

As a Canadian, I love knowing that I can get sick and not go bankrupt. And that my fellow Canadians can also experience the same debt-free safety.
If it means waiting a little longer for a non-life threatening procedure, so that my neighbors can receive health care, then that's a sacrifice I'm willing to make.

While I love being Canadian and I'm glad we have healthcare (I could never afford a doctor for anything otherwise… no prescription antibiotics for me without it), I agree it's definately not the best. France. That's what we should all strive for. Best healthcare in the world. Sorry to The Mission District that this thread has turned into a healthcare debate. Really enjoyed the song.

It's cool that you like canada and all but don't give the healthcare program as a plus side. At least you guys don't wait. 3 months ago, I broke a vertebrate in my back. A friend drove me to the hospital I was in so much pain. Once I got there they said to go at another hospital which is about 25 minutes away. They ”apparently” did'nt have any power for the x-ray machine. After fainting twice on my way to the other one, I waited 6 hours on a bed loosing and regaining consciousness. Once I finally went through, it took 10 minutes for morphine to be plugged in and x-raystaken.
Say that Canada is a nice country because of the scenery but leave health out.

To those without universal healthcare and have not experienced it:
if you are in severe need of attention, you don't wait 6-9 months. That's why there is the ER! It's not perfect, but at least we don't break the bank and worry (as much) about what getting sick might do to our finances.
