Fantasia, Oprah's gonna be pissed!
Since Fantasia began appearing in the Winfrey-produced Color Purple on Broadway seven months ago, the American Idol winner has missed an unheard of 50 performances. Fifty!!
That is extremely unprofessional and hurting the box office for the show.
On Broadway, when the star of a show - above the title billing - is out, you can either exchange your tickets for another day or get a refund.
Due to her many many many absences, producers have had to give back tens of thousands of dollars.
Sources say Fantasia's out a lot because "she's simply not up to the grueling Broadway schedule."
Girl, then you should have negotiated in your contract that you wouldn't do any matinees!
Broadway shows run eight times a week.
What's even worse is that not only are Fantasia's absences costing the show a lot of money and extremely unprofessional, but she's disappointed thousands of fans.
Many church groups and tourists travel in mass via busses from as far away as Alabama to see the show. To go through all of that and then have Fantasia pull a sick-out? Sucks hardcore!

Although my situations have been with Broadway Across America in the Midwest (traveling Broadway shows), and not in NYC, it is terribly disapointing to go to a show expecting to see a particular preformer, only to have their understudy do the show. I've had it happen twice, but not known it was an issue until seated, when a little slice of paper flutters out of the program saying - woops! no star tonight. Theater is a TOUGH job … nonstop and exhausting and newbies need to be prepared by agents/co-workers/directors before signing on.
Here's a solution… fire her ass! I'm sure there is an adequate person who would kill to take Fantasia's spot… that person would probably play the role better!

I saw the Color Purple this past summer it was actually Fantasia's first show back and wouldn't you know that she called out sick for the second act. It was embarrassing because I had friends in town and they stayed an extra night just to watch Fantasia .

She was "too busy" trying to sweet talk some other white girl that was acting like she was drugged out or drunk, to talk to the fans or sign autographs. Honestly it looked smelled really fishy to me. I saw Fantasia in The Color Purple in September '07 and she was amazing! Her acting and singing were breathtaking. (This is besides the point but I'm Asian, in my mid-20s, and a life-long New Yorker.)
Her performance alone made it one of the best Broadway plays I had ever seen, and I had seen a lot of shows. I recently saw The Little Mermaid and Young Frankenstein on Broadway (both must sees) and Fantasia was by far the most talented actress/actor around.

None of us know what it's like to appear on Broadway eight times or more a week. Fantasia didn't even know what to expect. I don't agree with her not showing up for 50 shows, but it was mentioned that it is taking a toll on her being called ugly every day and night. Being famous is not all pretty people. She has something special and I hope her success continues. I'm sure Oprah is disappointed, but we don't know what Fantasia is feeling, or if she is just tired, burned out, etc. Stop hating and wish her well.
I had Color Purple tickets in July and exchanged them because Fantasia was on vacation. We went in August and Fantasia was sick. Exchanged them a SECOND TIME. We back end of August and she was out AGAIN! Gave up and saw the show that time, BUT NEVER AGAIN…

My family and I traveled all the way from Virginia to go see her in the Color Purple and she didnt even show up!! We were so disappointed until we actually saw the show and saw how fabulous her understudy was. She probably did a better job than Fantasia would have!
