It's official!

The Writers Guild has announced plans to picket outside the Golden Globes next month.

Will any actors be audacious enough to cross the picket line????

We hope not!

There is no reason the actors shuld not be able to attend the awards show due to writers who are upset with contracts with the corporations. This is a night most look forward to, including viewers.

writers are not the only people in this world have jobs, If i were an actor I would support to what they want but they need to relize that my life is important too and I have mouths to feed as well.

I hope the actors all cross the picket line. I'm a writer and I have very little sympathy for these writers. They are very well paid–more so than any other type of writer. It is a little hard to muster up sympathy for them and their unwilliingness to negotiate. Sounds more like they are having parties, making it with each other, and being drama queens than being serious about their issues.

    22. Screwthem says – reply to this

      22

I am so sick of hearing about how the writers are not being treated fair and how they think everyone in the buisness should stop there jobs just to support them. Sorry Life isnt fair and doesnt always work that way. This is a night for the Actors to be recognized and given awards and we should all put the damn strike aside and allow those who have been suppporting the writers a night to shine.

      23

I have NO sympathy for the WGA. Fuck-em.
With that said, I don't watch the GG or the oscars so I really don't give a shit. Just a bunch of primadonnas who have no clue of the real world.

    24. Madonna says – reply to this

      24

Madonna recently underwent a successful anal and vaginal rejuvenation. It seems her labia was hanging a record 6.5" which was resting alongside her leg. The doctors threw in a complimentary anal bleaching and that went just fine.

      25

I hope so! People get so upset about television. They plan their lives around it and let it control their moods and life. At least the writer's strike stopped new uninspired visual trash for us to consume.

    26. I HATE THE WRITERS says – reply to this

      26

So sad! I say that the Hollywood Foreign Press Association hold the awards show in a different country! Hopefully then the greedy writers will get with the muthafucking program and get back to work!

    27. strike says – reply to this

      27

The actors should support the WGA because they have their own negotiations coming up. They want the same deal that the WGA will get. If they want the WGA to support them when it is their turn, they need to support the WGA.

    28. danii says – reply to this

      28

i'm a writer and even i think this is absolutely ridiculous. as if they don't earn enough money to live very comfortably. this is absolutely selfish of them, especially since they expect everyone else to go along with them. and of course, because they whine so much they're receiving a lot of sympathy from big names. its like they're forcing everyone they work with and all the viewers to support them! nothing is about entertainment anymore, its all moneymoneymoney. how selfish of them.
not to mention this is an awards show! allow the actors to receive their awards for ACTING.

      bloody fucking idiots.

    29. blah says – reply to this

      29

you know what… im getting annoyed with the wga. I think that they are being really selfish. -.-

The writers are asking for what everyone else is getting. They CREATE the work, but everyone else makes big residuals. Producers, actors etc. They're asking for the same size of piece of the pie that is given everyone else.

Actors and producers make big bucks from DVDs, but writers don't. Actors and producers make decent coin when a TV show is repeated, writers don't.

Actors and producers make big bucks when their movie or TV series is shown on an airplane, but writers don't. One writer wrote an article about it. He received a residual check for $0.08 cents after the film he wrote was shown on over 1,000 flights.

A small number of writers in the WGA make the big bucks ($250,000), the majority do not make a full-time living from writing. They have a second job. They're not asking for more than what everyone else is making, they're asking for the same.

Sounds fair to me. Especially since they create the work. Nothing gets made until it is written first.

    34. I hate this strike says – reply to this

      34

Well at least Crappy Tv is out for now! And Finally it will be quiet during the stupidest time of YEAR "The Golden Globes"
I think the writers for the award shows SUCK!
IF actors and actresses want there jobs they need to step over the picket line! My gawd! You greedy bastard can't even Write anyway The OFfice,Lost,Old christine!, and all the other shows SUCK!
u thought it was tuff during the last time what was oh yeah cable! took what like MOST of your audiances! well Great Time to strike! I am so catching up on seasons Whoooooooo needs ya! hell i don't even watch the shows cause of the Damn commercials! i wait until the season comes out! I have little to watch cause there is SOooooooooomuch sucky Tv out there! LOVE THE BBC!

    35. alice says – reply to this

      35

People keep saying that with the writers on strike, there will be no more garbage on tv, meanwhile its the opposite. Now there will only be crappy reality shows to watch. There are some well written shows on tv that the viewers have to miss out on because of this stupid strike. I for one am not spending a fortune every month for cable to watch reality shows. These people need to realize that there are people in the world with much harder jobs that make way less than they do.

    36. Erin says – reply to this

      36

I can't believe you are still supporting the writers! They should hold seminars on how NOT to carry out a strike. It rains, they don't show up. They leave before 5pm. And after 40 some odd days they can still afford their Venti Starbucks every single day. They have it so rough.

    37. Lora says – reply to this

      37

Oh yes, the poor writers. I'm sure that now they'll all have to get minimum wage jobs and find out what real work is like. Give me a break. They still make more money than I could ever dream of. Whiners.

    38. ravelle says – reply to this

      38

THE WRITERS ARE BEING CHILDISH AND UNBELEIVABLY SELFISH…
      the actors are as well.
Neither the writers or actors are thinking of the crews and other staff members this stupid strike is affecting. I have a cousin who worked on the Desperate Housewives set who is scared to death that she may loose her home. The inane actors don't give a crap because they all make boocoos. The writers should think of all the people they are affecting by being imature stubborn mules.
Get back to work and negotiate at the same time.
      GROW UP!!!!

    39. whiners says – reply to this

      39

Why can't the writers be like the rest of Americans, if they aren't paid enough, Find a NEW JOB !!!

Maybe they aren't paid enough because what they Create is garbage in the first place!!!

It's no wonder I can't ever find anything to watch on TV…Nick at night is great. These writers could learn from the writers of the past but they refuse to.

They can stay on strike for all I care.

    40. Carrie says – reply to this

      40

To those TV haters out there claiming "now the trash has been removed" couldn't be further from the truth. Your logic is flawed. Have you seen the influx of reality shows to the schedule now? Clash of the Choirs? The Moment of Truth? Are you f*&$ing kidding me?

Somehow the Broadway stagehands managed to bring their strike to end in a matter of weeks. While having a good starting point (the script) is obviously vital to a show's success, it is just that, a starting point. The writers create a piece of the picture, but they certainly are not the only important players in the process.

They need to stop bitching and start talking. And boycotting the foreign press awards isn't going to help their cause, we know, you are striking. Get over yourselves.

      46

In the begining there was the word…
No writers, no film or TV. No stars performing, nothing to watch but reruns. Have fun with that.

What is the reasoning behind this? WTF does the Golden Globes have to do with the writer's strike? The police should have them removed.

I hope the unions stick together. SAG will go on strike in June over the same issues, residuals for New Media.

    51. Erin says – reply to this

      51

Okay…I was all for the strike before, but this is getting ridiculous. Come on now, these writers probably make ten times more than I can ever hope to make!! And seriously, soon other people who work for these shows are going to be out of a job as well. These assholes need to figure this out soon, and stop whining.

    52. Melba Toast says – reply to this

unless you're with the event you can't get to close to anything so I hope the picketers don't get mobbed by the hundreds of freaks that wait hoping to get a glimpse of any celebrities!!!

    53. Low says – reply to this

      53

WALK THE PICKET LINE>> FUCK THE WRITERS! It's war time… and we need entertainment.. FUCK THEM TEAMSTERS!

    54. Tam says – reply to this

      54

Whats wrong with some of you. First you say good that they are gone, the crap is off tv then in the same sentence you say to them to go back to work. Which is it?

    55. Maria says – reply to this

      55

You would think with all the money involved that the bigwigs who run the entertainment industry would be more concerned about the strike affecting the awards shows (watch what happens with the Academy Awards next). After all, these award shows are a major source of publicity for the 'products'/films and if that's mucked with, well, things could get icky for everyone down the line. I understand that the municipal government of Los Angeles has or is about to hold a hearing about how this strike is affecting the local economy. Man, someone needs to hold these peoples' feet to the fire if there is going to be any kind of reasonable resolution. Remember, the corporate bigwigs make an unimaginable fortune off of what the writers do. Fairness for all, that's all I'm saying. But this strike needs to end so that all of the non-union workers can get back to work too.

    56. aron says – reply to this

      56

I hope this strike lasts for months and the greedy writers end up with NOTHING!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

    57. DEBS says – reply to this

      57

The Golden Globes are total bullshit anyway. Only idiots think winning a GG is an honour. Though it would be awesome to see the actors cope with their presenting duties without written speeches.
