Nickelodeon is considering doing a special about teen pregnancy.
That's great and all, but it's also an important discussion parents should be having with their kids. Obviously Lynne Spears didn't have that discussion with her daughter.
Safe sex is also something kids should be learning in school.
A special on Nickelodeon is not going to make much of a difference, but canceling Zooey 101 and firing Jamie Lynn will send a strong message.

The show is already done filming and Jamie Lynn is already paid. The shows 4th and final season starts in February. Jamie Lynn won't be hurt if they cancel the show..just Nicklodean and they aren't the ones that got pregnant.

I think Lynne probably talked to both her daughters, kids make their own decisions no matter what parents say. I also think that Jamie Lynn should be able to keep her job. Parenting is a tough job, the hardest in the world and she is about to learn that… one who does not have children should not be judging other parents. The special is a great idea.

The girl made a mistake, however, its a mistake that could be used to bring awareness to the public (particularly young people) who are not recieving the education that they clearly need on sex and more importantly safe sex. Abstinence is no longer a realistic ideal to teach kids within the schools because that is obviously not happening. Hopefully Jamie Lynn will be able to show teens that sex ALWAYS needs to be practised safely.
Lets hope this discourages kids from having un-protected sex.

I agree that these issues should be addressed by parents, but obviously parents aren't doing their jobs. I do think the show should be canceled only because I think that this the only way people will take notice. On the other hand I commend her for choosing to have the baby, but maybe she should give it up for adoption. I don't understand why more people don't do that. She does seem to be owning up to her responsibility. How she chooses to handle this situation will have a great impact on young adults because they look up to her. It takes a much bigger person to take responsibility.

Cancel the show. Most parents will be having the discussion necessary with their children. But pregnancy is contacious among the impressionable young.
Is that really the way to "send the message?" Should they ground her too? Don't kid yourself that there haven't been studio execs in the past demanding that their properties get abortions if they became pregnant at unfortunate moments. They're only trying to make their investment (a risky one from the get-go, undoubtedly) remain viable after investing so much in the Zoey franchise.
