Nickelodeon is considering doing a special about teen pregnancy.
That's great and all, but it's also an important discussion parents should be having with their kids. Obviously Lynne Spears didn't have that discussion with her daughter.
Safe sex is also something kids should be learning in school.
A special on Nickelodeon is not going to make much of a difference, but canceling Zooey 101 and firing Jamie Lynn will send a strong message.

Unfitney and Jamie-Dim (aka dumb and dumber) are poster children for how to completely F-U your life at an early age. But to keep paying them for it is sending the wrong message. Trash is trash, there's no point in promoting it to impressionable young women who follow them. The only thing these two do for the public is entertain us as we now know that they will do something that is bazaar to the rest of us almost daily. The horrible part in all of it is that these two losers have sadly involved children!

Maybe Nick should. God knows that this whole teaching abstinence thing in schools now is not doing the job, and parents aren't talking to their 11 year olds about sex. I see parents on here calling this girl and idiot and leave it to the parents to talk to their kids, but how many parents actually do? Just because a handful of you do, doesn't mean everybody does. And teaching just abstinence? How many of you can't even get your teenagers to wear a belt tight enogh so their underwear isn't hanging out, and you think they are going to listen to "Don't have sex"? HA!!!
I know two teachers that have had a few girls in the past 4 years, that are 12-13, show up pregnant. Its not like they teach in a poor neighborhood, either. These kids come from nice, middle-class families. Then again, these kids come in, wearing their designer clothes where the girls wear low cut tops and mini skirts, listen to sexually explicit music, which they certainly shouldn't be buying for themselves, and come in, talking about what happenned on "Desperate Housewives". Maybe instead of parents blaming all of this on such TV shows, music, and video games, they 1. shouldn't allow it, 2. if they do allow it, talk frankly to their kids about it, and 3. take off the blinders and the belief in "NOT MY CHILD!", and take responsibility.
oh, and by the way to the other hundreds of bloggers who are SCARED TO DEATH about the messages this event sends to their daughters. I LOLOLOLOL at all of you — because now NOW YOU ACTUALLY HAVE TO PARENT YOUR KIDS!!!!
Oh and by the way, all you ostriches with your heads in the sand, if you knew what your kids were exposed to on the internet (either directly, or through what they hear about at school) YOU WOULD F__KING FREAK OUT!!!!! Children do pay for the sins of their parents, and of the society their parents have permissively created in search of the almighty dollar.

I definitely think they should cancel her show and not allow her to act for Nickelodeon again. I am glad she's taking responsibility NOW for her actions - but continuing to support her would certainly make Nickelodeon look bad.
i think nick should write it into her show and move the show to their noggin network where they have degrassi and make a little teen block of programing. degrassi has dealt with the issue before. i dont know how long zoey 101 has been on but maybe it can mature a bit since apparently its about teens. it could take on a bit of a gritty real life aspect. it could be all about how zoey gets kicked out of school for being a dumb slut and they can follow her on her life from now on and all the things she has to do being a teenage mother. i smell emmy!!

I remember a show called Degrassi from the 80's. They did a storyline on teenage pregnancy. One of the teens gets pregnant and it shows the harsh reality of this situation. Maybe Nick should keep her on and send a message to all the teens out there: don't fuck up your life like Jamie!!!!!!
I think that at her age sex happens with almost all kids. I understand she is a role model but does this mean she shouldn't have sex, accidents happen. I was reading all the stupid comments people wrote and i want you to think about one thing, what age did u first have sex?. Being pregnant at a young age happens all the time, across the world. I think a Nick special is called for. Schools teach only abstinence, parents don't talk to their kids, someone has to. I had that talk with my daughter as soon as she got her period. I showed her a video of how babies were born, and she knows how hard it is to be a teenage mother because my best friend was, and it took my friend until 30 to earn her degree and is struggling to pay her son's college tuition, along with having to pay back student loans.
My daughter said that she isn't planning to have sex until she is married. I want to believe that, but I have to look at reality and not believe in fairy tales. I plan on having another long talk with her when she starts dating, but for now, she said that she is terrified of boys becuase her classmate is pregnant, and having a baby before college will ruin her plans to become a doctor. Let's see how long that lasts. I have faith in my daughter, but then again, she is a teenager.

I didn't think 10 was the right age to have a sex talk with my daughter, but guess what I did have to after this. It does not surprise me that JL kept the baby. That kid is money in the bank as much as she and her sis are to her showbiz mom. She absolutely should be let go from the show, and replaced with a good role model. If Lynn Spears were any kind of a mom, she would move her daughter home to Louisiana, enforce some control until she's of legal age, and get both their asses to parenting classes. Typical America… Just because you force religion upon your kids and you drag their asses to church every week does not mean they are actually gonna stay all virgin like… I have never seen so many teen mothers or had never seen high schools with daycares until I lived in the States. Strangly, it also had a huge amount of churches and churchgoers…. How odd. Maybe a lesson needs to be learned here, USA?

I am a parent of a 21 and 17 year old and that's the toughest JOB in AMERICA!!! Especially with this gerneration… With that being said, teen preganacy has been unfortunately the norm. I think everyone is upset because of her "status" as a young actress as well as being a Spears. A TV personality should NOT be a role model for your children. That's your job as well as other positive figures in your family and community! That's why it's called ACTING. Whoopi Goldberg's daughter was a teen Mom too - the only difference was that she was not in the spot light - like a tv show.
It is the parents DUTY to ensure the childs education, disciple and life lessons to the best of our ability. After that it is up to the teen to institute these lessons that were taught or learned.

It's not hard to hide a woman's pregnancy (remember when Sarah Jessica Parker was pregnant on SATC?) and firing her/canceling the show sends out the message that a woman's right to choose is conditional (especially considering this is her livelihood). If she were to have an abortion privately (or even publicly)-would she be fired? Is it really Nickelodeon's place to decide what's right and what's wrong? If people are really worried about role models for their children, they should take the time to choose and regulate what their children are being exposed to, ugh!
Yes, she's entitled to mistakes, we've all made them. HOWEVER, we were not all on TV for other teenage girls to model themselves after. I agree with the argument that parents need to do their part in talking, teaching and playing an active role in our children's lives. But as a mother of 2 daughters, I certainly worry every day that I've raised them 'right'. Our children doesn't need any additional negative influences on them…they have enough of that already. Teen sex has always been around. This is no big surprise. But supporting JLS by keeping her on the air is not a positive signal to send our teens today. It's more than the teen sex and pregnancy…this is an entire life change. There is going to be another life that she is responsible for! JLS is not going to be able to be a kid any longer. It's over. Yes, she still has a promising future, but it's going to be 10 times more difficult to get there with the additional 24hr responsiblity. THIS is what parents like me are worried about. We just want our kids to have every advantage and not try to grow up too fast. It's a tough balance.

Do your two year old kid that watches Nick religiously a favor – turn off the tv. Read him a book. Do your 9 year old girl who worships Jamie Lynn a favor – turn off the tv. Explain to her what happened, and explain that you want her to wait to have sex because a) she is worth waiting for and b) explain the decision to have sex is serious and can be life-changing (due to pregnancy, disease, heartbreak, etc.) And if you don’t want your child to know about sex – turn off the tv, period. Sex is mentioned all over the place. And while you’re at it, don’t send them to school because kids talk about sex – whether they understand what it is or not! I as a young mom myself I don't feel its right to fire a young girl just because she is pregnant. She still has talent she still can do her job just the same. I'm not saying its right for all 16 year olds to go out an get pregnant, but lets get real I think we all know she's not the only 16 year old having sex. well, obviously if you're going to have sex, have safe sex. Abstinence is not the solution for most people. Everyone seems to be demonizing this pregnancy. Why is everyone losing sight of what the real point is here? She is a pregnant minor doing a show geared towards minor. SHE SHOULD BE FIRED. Yeah, firing an adult woman who works on a network show for being is discrimination and she would definitely win her case in court, but this is a pregnant young girl. THAT SENDS A BAD MESSAGE TO CHILDREN. They should move her show to The N channel and weave her pregnancy into the plot of show. That way young girls would get a more normal view of what pregnancy for a young teen is like. If you can't or refuse to fire her than move her show. Her pregnancy IS NOT the reality that most young mothers would have. Yes, Jamie is wealthy and can pay for others to raise her kid for her, but what will a regular young teenager have to do…they'll have to get a job and take care of that kid by themselves! After all, that is what a RESPONSIBLE parent would do regardless of age or income. I don't think any of this is Lynne's fault. Divorce is hard on kids and obviously Britney expresses it in her way and Jamie Lynn felt like she was ready to take on this responsibility. I think it's great that she's not just another Disney girl who just aborts the baby without a second thought. I have nothing against abortion or Disney/Nickolodean…but I don't think firing her would send the right message either. Let this season end because she won't even show and let her continue with her life. Everyone needs to get off her back. while I agree strongly that no woman should ever be made to choose between her job and a pregnancy, it has to be considered that the show she´s in is directed at a teen girl audience… what sort of message is this sending? that it´s ok to be 16 and pregnant? she´s a "role model" to young girls. She should be taken off the show. And if she´s actually any good, I´m sure she´ll be able to find another source of income once her baby is born.
