The Show Must Will Go On

Despite planned protests from the striking writers, the Golden Globes will go on as scheduled next month, NBC has announced.

But, the real question is: who will show up????

Will the actors cross the picket line????

We think they should and will stand in solidarity with the writers, especially since the actors are likely going to strike over the same new media issues in June.

The Screen Actors Guild should just order all its members not to attend!

No SWAG sweets this year. Sadness.

Most of them live for this attention. They don't care about anyone else but themselves.

At this point it would be silly if anyone showed up.
The best message that could be sent would be if nobody came.
The last time I threw a party that nobody attended, things changed.
QUICKLY! By fifth grade, EVERYONE wanted to come to my parties.

while I totally understand why the actors should stand in solidarity I do feel bad for the first time nominees who might never get a chance to attend/pick up an award and give a speech etc.

If the strike(s) are pissing you off and you want to fight back you have only one choice. CANCEL YOUR CABLE SUBSCRIPTIONS!!!!! Don't pay for re-runs and bullshit. If you keep your cable, you're giving people money for nothing!!!!

      25

Damn right nobody's gonna cancel that show. Those stupid writers should get their asses back to work. Nothing without the writers? Really? I must've missed the part where the writers pay the actors. Oh no wait, that's the networks. And without the networks, those writers don't have jobs.

The writers aren't just losing wages themselves.. Every crew member of these those is JOBLESS because the writers are greedy.
I hope the networks dump the shows and start over with fresh new talent.. without the union!!
The union is HURTING thousands– But, trust me.. there are TONS of aspiring writers who will be happy to take their places.

One good thing to come out of this, Potato Head is Miss Golden Globes. A good year for them to pick such an ugly person, fewer people will be watching.

If the actors cross the picket line, how is that standing in solidarity?

    31. Hippo says – reply to this

      31

      To Sonya:

Read it again. The sentence is worded awkwardly. I got confused the first time I read it, too. He says "should and will stand in solidarity," not "should cross the picket line."

wonder what the beverly hilton will do about the red carpet stand sitters that spend a lot of money to see the celebs? we had canceled for another reason but all those people in the stands spend money to be there. not sure the public or celebs know about that. we had been doing it for 10 years. so glad we had a reason not to spend $3500.00 this year. if no one shows at least i will not have missed much….

      35

I'm glad to see some other people here are fed up with the writers. I really don't get why 'sticking up' for the writers is the PC and 'in' thing to do at this point in time. T.V. is such total craaap anyway, seriously the stuff is just brainless, and these hollywood writers must make 10X what government worker schmoes and all of us regular people make. Why, as the viewers being deprived of t.v., are we like 'oooh! support the writers! Respect the union!' Uggh, it's like as a society we grasp on to any cliche and 'in' thing to do. As viewers, why should we give a F*&^ about them getting more money? They are greedy bastards! Get back to freakin' work. I hope they all get fired and new talent is given a chance–I'm sure there are TONS of struggling writers out there with fresh ideas that would love to be given a chance.

    36. Lee says – reply to this

      36

Sorry but to hell with those silly assed writers. Greedy f**ks. They are just totally stupid and are acting like a bunch of spolied brats cuz they aren't getting what they want. Most of the shows they write for suck bigtime anyhow and are a waste of TV time. I hope the actors stand AGAINST them cuz the writers are being too difficult and overly demanding. They're STILL getting paid while on the picket line from their reruns and crap. I hope the studios start hiring writers who aren't unionized and and/or ditch unions altogether. It's a waste of money and time.

Why whould'nt the show go on? It's just the tv actors who won't show because of the strike, they need the writers. But, People watch for the MOVIE STARS, not the tv stars.

they are hurting theentire community of all the shows, etc…it makes me sick that these a$$joles are concerned abouthowmuch MORE they can get. Yeah I know they don't make a ga-zillion like the actors, producers and directors…BUT THEY NEED TO THINK OF ALL THE OTHERS THEY ARE BRINGING DOWN WITH THEM!!!!! Get back to work and negotiate. This is one of many resons unions are not good. GROW UP AND NEGOTIATE….That goes for all concerned in the process.

    39. Mitchie says – reply to this

      39

I am a writer on a major network show, and I am not greedy! There is a major misconception about how much writers make. Before the strike, I was pretty much living paycheck to paycheck and now I’m barely making it. Yet I stand behind the WGA completely.

When you see those rich bastards driving their BMW’s to their lavish homes , don’t be confused. They aren’t writers, they are the producers!! And they are the greedy ones.

Of course the actors will stand with us. As we will stand with them when it’s time to renegotiate their contract.

      BUST THE UNION!!!!

This is ALL about putting more power in the Union's hands. This whole thing is fucking the writers. Every Union action is about the Union, NOT the members!

      45

Members of the Writers Guild are a bunch of talentless hacks and the real writers might actually get a chance to showcase their work without having to suck the mighty union penis first?
You sell your soul to a pathetic mass market medium for the highest dollar, cranking out unoriginal, uninspired trash, like so many Thai children pushing out Nikes, and you expect people to have sympathy for you? Please. Last I checked, not a single indie film has had production cancelled because of this strike. Why? Real writers.
Unions exist almost entirely in the unskilled or semi-skilled sectors. They protect the kinds of jobs where simple talent is not protection enough, because any joe off the street could come in and do as good or almost as good a job as you with minimal training. This is why theres no doctors union, or lawyers union, or painters union. There are exceptions, sure, but in all of the exceptions (airline pilots, teachers, auto mechanics), the only thing that separates the union member from the layman is a fairly small amount of technical knowledge. So what I'm getting at is this: Writing, as it is practiced in television and movies, is mostly an unskilled field full of people with more egos than talent. Where are the scabs when we need them?

    46. Ell says – reply to this

      46

So all of those people, including writers, won't get their deserved recognition for the work they did last year or the year before that, because, RIGHT NOW they cannot agree on the terms… The globes are not the big evil here, cross the line.
