Britney Spears is on a 72 hour lockdown at Cedars Sinai Medical Center!
The mother of two has been designated a "special needs" patient.
What does that mean????
A patient is diagnosed as special needs if they have either overdosed or tried to commit suicide.
"So we go stay with these patients and monitor them constantly," says a hospital source. "We watch them so they don't hurt themselves and watch the people who come visit them to make sure they don't pass anything to them."
We hope Britney gets the mental help she desperately and obviously needs!

This is also known as a 51/50. Any person who has suicidal tendencies is required by law to stay in the hospital against their wishes for 72 hours. After that, the hospital can and will enforce a longer stay sometimes up to 14 days again without the patient's consent.

no doubt the woman has made very bad choices in her life and seems to enjoy activities that are bad for her and others (as does most of hollywood).

sure she may seek attention to some degree, but everybody enjoys attention, maybe she was looking for more positive attention but found that negative is all she gets
it seems like she is trying to act like the intrusive media doesn't affect her (but obviously they do)…although it is negative attention and damaging to her she may be seeking it because at least it is attention
seems like bad after bad after bad…her focus on herself rather than her kids and wants rather than needs is bad, possible mental issues are bad–and the media's overexposure of her is bad
I hate how her possible mental problems are mentioned with a derogatory tinge, first of all any stigma is a dis-incentive for treatment/acknowledgment, second of all how many of us would retain our composure with the level of scrutiny she has received (although her reactions seem to go beyond normal loss of composure)
anyone in hollywood with kids should keep their children/teens/adults/etc and themselves as far away from nightclubs and parties as possible

Two innocent kids are involved and she obviously tried to cling to them no matter what.
I think people should mind their own messed up lives first before thinking they can pass on judgment to others.

5150 is a legal hold imposed on a person that is believed to be in need of involuntary psychiatric treatment in the state of California. The person is believed to be a combination of 1 or more of the following:
A Danger to Self
A Danger to Others
Gravely Disabled
Once a police officer, or an individual that is 5150 certified has issued a 5150, the person will be taken to a psychiatric hospital and can be legally held for up to 72 hours. During the first 24 hours of the 3-day hold (72 hours) the person must be evaluated by 2 psychiatric doctors to determined if admission to the hospital is necessary for further treatment. If both doctors decide the patient is in need of further treatment he/she is admitted into the hospital. Once the 72-hour period is up, the patient has a choice to remain voluntary. If the patient decides not to stay voluntary, and the doctors (or a RN and a doctor) decides further treatment is necessary, the patient can be Certified with a 5250 for involuntary treatment for up to an additional 14 days.

They said she was in 72 hour lock down with 24 hour supervision. I work on a psychiatric unit. They have 24 hour supervision, with 15 minute checks. BUT, the 72 hour thing. See, a voluntary committment is a 201. Most people sign it thinking they're in for 72 hours. But what it really means is that the patient will give the hospital 72 hours notice before leaving. And all that goes out the window if the doctor doesn't think they're still a harm to themself.
I'm not familiar with California's laws for involuntarily committing a mentally ill patient (every state is different), but it sure sounds like that's what's happening. Usually it's a 72 hr hold and then a court hearing to determine if longer is necessary (2 wks-6 mos). If so, then I hope she actually gets the help she needs!
