Blast From The Past

All this Britney dramz has got us thinking about this, Judy Garland.

You must watch this vintage interview of Judy Garland from 1967 done by none other than Barbara Walters. They talk about the media, being hounded, the paparazzi, drugs and the cult of celebrity. It draws so many parallels to Brit Brit!

Judy was high as a kite during the interview. She died about a year after.

Sad.

Perez, you are supposed to be a queen and defend the gay icons!!! How rude of you! But Judy, why "carpets"?

How dare you say Britney Spears and Judy Garland in the same sentence! Judy was um talented and Britney is trash. They are not similar at all.

Truth: BW and JG are both legends… Unfitney could have been… now she will only go down for all the drama, and pain she's caused her family and her friends. No doubt we're all feeding into it.. but in all honesty JG called it back then, and if any of you take the time to note her history - she was practically being guided and forced into taking pills which only naturally leads to addiction. Whether this happened / happens for Brit Brit or not we will simply never know.
All I have to say is… from one BW admirer to another, THANK Perez for posting this.

i love love LOVE judy garland…and although the parallel between her situation and that of britney spears might be similar, it stops there. Judy had TALENT with a capital T, Britney has none…I wish Perez might make such an important distinction between celebrities he compares in the future.

      Thank you xoxo

Erm…yes, but unlike Britney, Judy was an absolutely lovely lady who didn't start herself on the drugs. Also she had a thing called talent, which USED to be essential in Hollywood and the music industry.

Britney and Judy Garland are in no way comperable…Judy Garland had a 40 year career before this interview was done and she had successfully completed a huge number of movies, television shows, radio shows and concerts. She NEVER had a 'comeback' like the dazed on that Britney had. One difference between them is that Judy cared about her audience because she loved to perform for them. Contrast that with Britney who cares about her audience because she wants to be in the media for the exposure.

Moreover, Judy continued to work even though she emotionally couldn't handle it because of her children - not at all like Britney's act of continually putting them in danger.

When Britney successfully completes her 40th year performing, then you can make comparisons. Until then, she's just a drugged up, spoiled child who probably wishes she had the talent that Judy Garland did.

And by the way, Judy Garland died in June of 1969 - Perez, get your facts straight (at least).

difference: JUDY had TALENT and was very accomplished before she crashed and burned; she was the first teen idol and her popularity spanned multiple generations; if she had never sang she could have been a great actress. When she died, Frank Sinatra said, "'We'll all be forgotten in a hundred years, not Judy." She loved her fans and doted on her children; ask them…
