      also, companies like netflix don't help either. You pay around $25/month to recieve 3 dvd's at a time AND you can keep them as long as you'd like. No need to buy them then!

      Lets face it folks, on the whole movies have MAJORLY SUCKED for years. the music business has been shit for the past 15+ years. There a but a few original song writers - groups are never are formed and last past album one (Led Zeppelin, Eagles, Steely Dan, Fleetwood Mac, Aerosmith - ect.). It is all pop of the moment and sampling of those earlier artists.

      Hip Hop and Rap are pure shit past Run DMC and all the little white girls keep sipping the ghetto artist's Kool Aid to be cool - Wake the fuck up - the content is shiteous to the core.

      One Hit Wonders are fun, but in the end it is shit and will give you cavities of the brain.

      Make content cheap and transportable, without selling me 10 ways the movie company is trying to screw me, and I'll start buying. Treat every consumer like a criminal, they get fed up. I hate buying stuff I can't own, and can't use as I see fit.

      Sales are down because the market is saturated. Most people already have the old movies they wanted. You can only sell the same movie to the same person so many times.

      the first one dvd are expensives

      Likely for two reasons.

      1. Most people are done replacing their VHS movies with the DVD counterpart,

      2. The price. Likely most people now wait till the DVD goes down in price. Why pay $20 now when you can wait 6 months to a year and get it for $10 or less.

      Of another reason. People are getting sick and tired of the double/triple dips.

      They have just introduced TWO competing technologies. Just like (Beta and VHS) either BluRay or HD-DVD will win out and the other will become a cute bit on remember the 2000s. People aren't willing to commit to either until one wins out. However, because we all know that our older regular DVDs are going to be obsolete, we're not buying them either. They did it to themselves, no sympathy.

The only time I've bought a DVD is if my kids really loved the movie (and that has been very rare!!) , but for the most part most of the movies coming out now suck and who wants to watch them over and over.       The reason why DVD sales are down is that people are waiting to see which hi-def format is going to become the standard. Why start a DVD collection now, when people are going to have to rebuy again. People have had to switch their movie and or music collections over from Beta, VHS, Laserdisc, vinyl, casettes, 8 tracks, CDs, MP3s. digital downloads, etc. With the new digital television standard in place for 2009 and with less disposable income, people are holding off. As for prices of DVDs, they are going down. New releases start out high and are quickly being reduced. I purchased the first 3 seaons fof Nip/Tuck for only $15. each. Hold outs are studios like Paramount, which still charges a lot for their DVD sets.

      Maybe if Hollywood would start making some decent movies, we'd buy them. And to tell you the truth it doesn't help that so many of today's actors can't act worth a shit and I'm sick of their off-screen antics. Hollywood has become an industry of plastic soulless airheads and I find myself getting increasingly uninterested in what's going on out there. It would help immensely if they policed their own little planet and made worthwhile movies…like in the days of olde Hollywood.

      There are multiple reasons for this. There aren't as many good movies or decent bands/artists now. If you've seen one Will Farrell or Adam Sandler movie, you've seen them all. Nickelback, Evanescense, Breaking Benjamin, Beyonce, and all of the other "popular" bands/artists just keep releasing what sounds like the same album over and over. Maybe people are finally getting tired of generic, cookie-cutter filler.

      Additionally, we seem to be headed for a depression. Inflation is really bad right now. Milk costs more, gas costs more, my insurance premium jumped up almost 60$ this year alone. Most of us just can't afford to shell out 20$ for one cd or dvd right now. It's cheaper and easier to just get them online, or rent movies instead of buying them. The only way to change this is to revamp the system. The artists need to start taking control of their music (like Radiohead's latest release) and cut out the greedy record companies.
