An author filed a lawsuit against Jerry Seinfeld's wife, Jessica, on Monday.
The suit alleges that Jessica "brazenly plagiarized" from the cookbook The Sneaky Chef for Seinfeld's own collection of recipes for kids' healthy eats.
Both Jerry and his wife have on multiple occasions publicly dismissed claims that Jessica's book was plagiarized.
Jerry himself is also named as a defendant in the lawsuit, accused of defamation.
They'll have to battle it out in court now.
Thankfully Jerry has his sitcom money to help his wife!

The author who filed the lawsuit is currently making so much dough from Jessica's cookbook. No one would've even looked at that crazy bitches cookbook if Jessica didn't "write" a similar one … have you seen how many people have bought her shit from Amazon … I'm sure nobody even glanced at it before Jessica was on Oprah. Now she's making tons of money from the sales (that she never would've gotten), and she's trying to milk even MORE money from a lawsuit … greedy!

Here's how Jessica Seinfeld has fooled America. She wanted to be the next "martha Stewart". So she pitched a cookbook idea to Collins. But she has no chef-credibility because everyone knows she has private chef and staff. So the publishing company furnished her with recipes stolen from a manuscript they received from the author that is suing. They liked the author's ideas and stole the recipes ecause her "veggie pureeing" methods are a good "hook" and provided them to Jessica Seinfeld. Jessica Seinfeld then had her private chef rework them to make them look original. It's collusion and Jessica's book is a fraud.
The little golddigger dumped her first husband after 5 minutes of marriage when Jerry came after her with his shitload of money so I'm not surprised she stole someone else's work either. I hope the REAL author of the cookbook wins.

They questioned her about the plagiarism, and one of her comebacks was "Well… Jerry and I didn't do this for the money, obviously. I have no reason to copy someone else's work." I am paraphrasing, but that's basically what she said. What a low blow to the "Sneaky Chef"! I thought that was very distasteful. I hope she gets what she deserves.
Oprah is unfortunately caught up in this mess too and the Seinfelds are screwing around with her good name. Jerry offered Oprah a part in The Bee Movie and used that as leverage to secure a spot for his wife to promote that cookbook. Jessica comes from a PR background and has her husbands name to trade on.. so she thinks she can get away with anything. I hope she finally has to pay the piper for this one. I bought the Sneaky Chef book when it came out. No…it's not rocket science to think of putting puree into your child's food to get them to eat veggies. But it's also not rocket science to consider putting cheese and pasta together, but how many of you can make a good tasting macaroni and cheese from scratch that is edible? It really takes a recipe to make it good.
The Sneaky Chef is in the right. Her book came out well in advance of JS's book. Either JS stole the idea from the Sneaky Chef, or someone at the publishing house stole the idea, and got JS involved.

I responded above, but I just read "Lisa's" comments…..I worked in book publishing for 13 years before having my kids and I've gotta say, I think THAT'S EXACTLY what happend. I can't tell you how many meetings I took with potential authors where they pitched an idea, but someone had just read a galley from another author from another book publishing house and it was suggested that they "tweak" their proposal a bit to fit our list for such-and-such season. I'm 100% sure that she lifted the idea from somewhere — puree'd blueberries don't just come out of nowhere and land in two brownie recipes in two different cookbooks!!!

Are you kidding me? You think that it's plagarisim because both books have recipes for mac and cheese? I have news for you - there are LOTS of cookbooks that feature a recipe for mac and cheese and, shocker, most of them contain variations on…the exact same ingredients (gasp!). No matter how fancy a cookbook is, mac and cheese is basically macaroni, cheese, milk or cream, maybe flour for thickening, maybe breadcrumbs for topping, salt and butter. Am I going to get sued now for revealing this secret recipe? Please.
Whether she stole the ideas/recipes or not, it will be very difficult for the plaintiff. Most people don't understand a lot about food law, but it is VERY hard to prove someone stole a recipe from you since, as noted above, most of it is not rocket science and many recipes are based on traditional recipes and food pairings (You can't prove "I am the only person in the world who thought of roasting butternut squash with sage!"). You CAN copywrite cookbook FORMATS, SPECIAL TECHNOLOGY, MACHINES OR CHEMICALS involving food prepration, STORIES relating to recipes (such as "my grandmother always made this for us on sundays blah blah blah…", but it is very very difficult prove copywrite on an actual RECIPE.
Jerry just needs to write this author a big check to make the lawsuit go away and then tell his wife to stop pretending to be a chef and writing fake-ass cookbooks.
Even if the author can't prove that the recipes were stolen (which they were) she can prove that Jerry Seinfeld defamed her… because it he was all over the talkshow circuit saying a bunch of rude and unnecessary stuff. This is a woman who's been a respected chef who pureed veggies for years and taught classes on the subject and was minding her own business when Jessica Seinfeld and Collins Publishing ripped off her ideas.
My husband and I were at the taping of the Oprah Show when Jessica Seinfeld appeared promoting her book. In fact, the book wasn't even available yet. Before the show, there was an Oprah representative that was "warming up the crowd" asking our opinions on different topics and telling us what to expect from the show. One topic was how we get our families to eat foods that they don't like, like veggies and such. One woman in the audience mentioned how she puree's veggies and slips them into other foods that her kids like(before we all knew about Jessica's book). There were other women who were sitting next to us that said that they do the same thing. Although it was a new idea to most of us, there were a few people who do that a lot in their everyday lives. Unfortunately the original author didn't get as much publicity as Jessica so she didn't make nearly as much money. But to think it was her idea and no one else's is inaccurate. I think these two intelligent women just had a great idea about writing a book around the same time.

Jody, the main problem with your theory (that Ms. Seinfield did not plagiarize and two women had the "same idea"), is that the layout, the content, even the graphics between the two books is astonishingly similar.
What's worse….Mrs. Seinfield's "publishers" had reviewed The Sneaky Chef on 2 prior occasions to her book being published–months before her book was published. Apparently, someone thought they could take a good idea and improve upon it. Too bad that's ILLEGAL.
Read the case's merits, it's astonishing–the plagiarism issue and the fact that Jerry Seinfield most definitely slandered the author of The Sneaky Chef…. repeatedly.

If you read the lawsuit, you will see that the basis of the lawsuit is not the idea of pureeing foods and hiding them in recipes (which is not original) - it is the whole concept, layout and design of the book - that is, being sneaky, the book's layout, the recipes' secret ingredient, etc. While the plagiarism will be hard to prove (you can change one quantity and it becomes a "different" recipe), the libel and defamation seem like a slam dunk. How dare Jerry Seinfeld go on several national shows and say the things he said about the other author. Based on her background, she does not seem like a nutcase, and she will have loads of character witnesses backing that up. I think both the Seinfeld's need to be taken down a peg or two for thinking they can say these things on national TV. Write the check, Jerry.

But after hearing of a lot of the particulars sure does sound like Mrs. Seinfeld was taking this other womans ideas. AND if it's true that Mrs. Seinfeld's publishing co. had seen the other womans recipes then there is DEFINITELY a case here.

As a pediatric nutritionist with many years experience in hospitals - the worst thing to do to a picky eater is hide the food you're giving them. The child will never learn to appreciate vegetables and select for him/her self what s/he does and does not like. You end up raising a child who will always be picky and eat white and brown food all day (and get fat or too thin). Anyways hope she wins the lawsuit, properly educates herself about children's nutrition and writes a better book.

Love Jerry but he's being a schmuck about this. His wife is bringing him down …everybody knows damn well she copied that lady's book but that atrocious Bee movie didn't do much for you either. Just enjoy your money Seinfelds and stop being so desperado for attention.
