Another casualty of the writers' strike and big media's unwillingness to negotiate.
One of the leading payroll companies in Hollywood has just closed its doors!

A tipster writes in….
"One of the things I think is GREAT is that you report on MANY business aspects of the industry that have an affect on everyone out here. I'm not sure if you heard about this yet, but as of 6pm last night, Axium (one of the few MAJOR payroll companies for the entertainment industry) told it's employees to gather their personal things, stop what they were working on and leave the building. They have shut their doors. Axium has branches all over the world: New York, Louisiana, London etc… If you call any of those offices today you will only get a message saying that their offices are closed. This is going to have a HUGE impact on the industry. MANY MANY tv shows, feature films, reality shows etc… use Axium to pay their employees AND actors. Anyone working on a show that gets their payroll from Axium can no longer count on their paychecks showing up. To top this all off, NO ONE (not Variety, Hollywood Reporter etc…) is reporting on this. The major players around town DO know about it (I know one major company in town is VERY aware of what is going on but is NOT volunteering the information to their employees since they're afraid they'll stop working) but have no further information. This is going to have a MAJOR impact on the industry."
We've tried calling Axium but have been unable to get through to anyone in any of their offices.
As VB would say, this is mayjah!

I wish all these money hungry bastards can get on with it already.
I'm sick of missing my shows because these rich fuckers won't give the writers what they deserve!!
Reruns and reality shows get old REAL quick!
PS. 13th?
sucky!
FIRST! ha
Yes, always blame the company. It seems to me the greed of the writers is more to blame. How many people have lost their jobs due to their greed? How many events will be cancelled because of their greed? I don't feel the slightest bit sorry for these people. I hope they all get fired right before christmas (Next year of course)
Nick Jonas is a TROLL!!!! Stop hating on Miley. How is she remotely slutty?
sorry to hear about that. quit whining, though. how about the rest of the country that is having trouble? overpaid bitches bitchin. thats all you guys do

Mayjah!!!
Is that BONO???
I agree with the writers however I hope they negotiate. I can't wait to see my favorite shows back on the air. After this strike they better come up with amazing lines for the shows have been put on hold.
Re: Mindmesh –
You're a douche
most tv writers make over $200,000 yet they wont work forcing many(lesser paid individuals) to lose jobs because $200,000 just isnt enough. Why does anyone support these extreemly selfish writers?
STFU already you whiny ass babies. The GREEDY WRITERS are causing this - wanting to be paid 100 times over for their work so they can make a living while they are NOT working (gee wouldn't we all LOVE that!!).
That is interesting news, but at least in California, there are very very strict payroll laws by which the company will have to abide. Its not as though there is no money - there is just no one processing it. The clients will merely go to another payroll company - few days of confusion will probably be the only impact.
Pay the writers! This is a big deal and its sad to see how many people are really affected by the big companies greed. Good for all the big name actors for supporting thier writers. I hope they start talking here soon…..
I hope the writers take comfort in what they are doing! It has far reaching consequences
What the writers are asking for is not at all unreasonable. There would be no shows, no movies, nothing without them. The writers deserve one of, if not the BIGGEST cuts of the money.
Afterall, all the actor do is read the WRITERS material.
Re: obsessed – Oh really are you prepared to pay for your YouTube and other internet videos? Because that's what this will come to.
Please do not report on things that are not true. Axium going under has nothing to do with the writers strike. It is an investor that pulled out taking his money with him.
It aint got nought to do with writers, actors etc, you will see………….. da head honcho has been a little forgetfull in submitting his payroll taxes for many months to the tune of over $100 million ……….oops…… Just wait and see…try looking up the financial background of the CEO. Many small production houses are going to be screwed and will probably go under…..Greedy Bastard
The writers were getting 4 cents for online media, and they want 8 cents! (How is that being paid 100 times over?) How can you call the writers greedy when the producers are making TONS OF MONEY from the advertising space online?
The PRODUCERS SUCK and are waaaaay too greedy. WGA has made individual agreements with several production companies, which shows they are willing to negotiate.
I hope the writers are sleeping well at night!! What they are doing has far reaching consequences!
Re: Mindmesh – tahts stupid how would you feel if the things you were writing were being published, and all you got paid for was for writing it while every one else is getting money off of dvd's movie sales etc…
Damn, Poor people they fighting for there rights to live.
This is a response to #13 and everyone else who seems to think the writers are overpaided babies…
Contrary to what you seem to believe writers DO NOT make good money. Its the rare few that actually make a lot of money. If you want to talk about greed talk about the companies that employ the writers. The ones who pull in millions and billions of dollars, the ones who make money off syndicating shows and just regular broadcasting, the ones who make way more then what they should. Without writers these shows would be nothing. You need to start with a script before you can do anything. And a good script makes a good show, a good show makes the MONEY.
Writers are not being treated fairly and are NOT being paid fairly. They deserve the wages they are asking for…
this is the 'companies' fault. Not the writers…
Re: me – you dont know what you are talking about
oh puhleeze Perez you are nothing but a corporate bitch yourself these days!!
The writers are greedy. There are thousands of people who could do their jobs! Stop being such whiney babies and get back to work!
Re: slipperyhands – Fuck you
UM… You keep mentioning "big media's unwillingness to negotiate" WHAT ABOUT THE WRITERS UNWILLINGNESS TO NEGOTIATE!!
ok, so it's not like all of these writers didn't know what they were getting into when they took the damn job. So now, since a show makes more money than expected or a movie ends up making more than triple the projections, they suddenly deserve more??? So now, since they aren't doing shit and dragging in the Union, no one is making any money, so if they think they are going to get more when they aren't producing any income for anyone. So any independent writers out there, becasue the future of film and tv is looking pretty grim??
This is just the first - I work for a service company that is affected by the writer's strike. While I agree with the writers that they should be paid for the work they do, how am I (a single mother with no child support) supposed to feed my son when my company closes down? Come on - let's get back to the bargaining table!
All the writers can kiss my ass.
big deal
if a few months without the business of issuing paychecks for the writers has put this company out of business, then clearly the company was in trouble to begin with
WRITE ABOUT THAT
I am with the writers on this strike, but get off the pot dumbass, this is not just a casualty of THIS war. It would appear that missmanagement would be Axium's downfall.
AMERICA SUPPORTS YOU, HUCKABEE!!! ITS TIME FOR WHITE CHRISTIAN CANDIDATE TO BE PRESIDANT!

VOTE FOR HIM!WHITE PEOPLE TO BAND TOGETHER FOR NEW HAMPSHIRE PLEASE!!!!
LAZY WRITERS SHOULD JUST GO BACK TO WORK AND STOP MESSING IT UP FOR EVERYONE ELSE WHO IS PAID MUCH MUCH LESS THEN THEM. STOP THE MADNESS AND GET BACK TO WORK, YOU GREEDY SELFISH PEOPLE!!!!!!! YOU MAKE ENOUGH MONEY AS IT IS, TRY LIVING ON A MINIMUM WAGE JOB AND THEN STRIKE ALL YOU WANT!!!!
Payroll company should have been able to handle a 3 month strike…This is much more than that…It's the studios that pay anyways, and by law they have to so it's not like the money was in Axiom's pockets..Stop overexagerating!
Re: Cdg – If you're not making enough money from your work up front then you are probably LOUSY at it and look into getting a real job!!! These companies can only begin to recoup their initial mult-million$$ investment when a show succeeds, WHY SHOULDN'T YOU BE HELD TO THE SAME STANDARD??
BUZZKILL….
Wow, so I decided to google them and pull up there contact info and sure enough they are closed. Wonder if they finished printing checks before they left?
LOOK MORK is trying to SUCK UP!!!
The companies are putting up the money to produce these shows (most of which FAIL by the way, thanks for that you all-important writers) - without THEM the shows wouldn't exist. Come on, people.
i'm sure thet are closed temporaily since companies dont usually shut their doors and tell everyone to just leave…i bet the exec's are figuring out ways to stay in business w/o spending more money on labor costs…it takes a few days to restructure business strategies…
called the number… its true their number was disconnected.
Who is supposed to care? They're all overpaid Fuck em all
Re: Krissy – There is no current WGA rate for online media so obviously you have no idea what you're talking about - better move along to the latest Britney thread and let the adults discuss here.
SEE - - the writers are selfish, selfish, selfish - - it makes me sick that all they are thinking about is themselves. GO BACK TO WORK YOU PANSY ASS BABIES. Think of all the people you are affecting. This is not helping anyone, especially you and your cause…negotiate like adults and get back to work.
A$$WHOLES!
Re: Mindmesh – AGREED!!! AMEN!
aw shucks, just pull a ronnie reagan, fire all of them and hire some new blood.
Re: get real –
that writers don't just write what they want, if the pilots fail its because the COMPANIES came up with a shitty idea. nobody questions the companies that produce garbage, yet ppl are quick to blame the writers for not writing a good enough script. and speaking from what i do know about writers, only the ones that get to work on a big production hit movie can make up to $200,000, the rest are mere mortals like yourself.
#52, they're not just not "issuing paychecks to the writers"; the strike has managed to shut down 80+ entire TV show crews at an average of what, 150 production and 100 post? so that's 20K folks a week who aren't getting checks cut. However, I suspect Axium's problems didn't start with the strike but were merely pushed over the edge by it.
I am GLAD to see these writers suffering. I could give a shit if all of them file bankruptcy. They donate their thousands so the damn synagouges in LA have gold minnorahs for chrissake!
Fuck the Jewish scumbag writers. Court TV changed to TruTV on January 1st and besides the college football all I watch is TruTV with REAL PEOPLE, not those hollywood actor fags! Let the strike continue and foreclose on their mansions!
Re: Kristin – Okay, first they ARE the Union. The union is made up of the writers and actors. The actors are making a lot of money off of what these writers WRITE for them. If they didn't write, you wouldn't have anything to watch. People do not understand all of the facts–when you say things like you have, you look like an uneducated idiot. Get your facts straight!

Interesting. Just called Axium's Vancouver office (Vancouver has the 3rd largest prod centre after NYC and LA) and while the VM comes on there is no mention of the offices being closed.
I highly doubt this is related to the writers strike at all. Those who have worked in the industry for years have suffered through the DGA and SAG strikes in the past without this affect.
I am tire of hearing abt the writers strike. Lets face it, our society is so screwed up when writers, acters get paid 6 figures or more to "make believe!" As a representative for disability individuals, who by the way.. sometmes must wait THREE long years without any income … I say get over it, get over yourself! I could give two shits whether or not TV exist. Perhaps with all the reruns, the whole thing will back fire and people will actually start communicating! Do you know you waste more brain cells watching TV then you do sleeping! Writers, acters…get a grip, your job does NOT save lives and lives do not depend on you being there.
And Pereze…perhaps if we stop following Britney…maybe she too would go away…OVER IT!
KOKO…I actually am quite educated on the subject.
You are the one who needs more educating…suggesting that people will have to pay for Youtube. What a CROCK OF POO! Consumers "pay" for You Tube by being exposed to advertisements. Advertising space is how the producers make their money online. If you stream an episode online, you HAVE to sit through commericals.
Bottom Line, WGA DESERVES TO BE PAID FOR THE PRODUCT THEY CREATE. (And BTW, most writers make $40,000 a year, not $200,000!)
Re: koko – Those "adults" get paid $ 500.000 per "adult" by Jay Leno for some lame jokes and still go on strike. Woohoo. Why don't you force Jay Leno to pay for the consequencies of your strike like you did before? Get real, Koko!
Re: you do realize – Well you don't know much about writers then, becuase actually, the EP/showrunner usually comes up with the idea not the company, and there are many many TV writers (including lowest-level staff writers) making $200k+.
Though it is a convenient excuse, the closure of Axium International has NOTHING to do with the WGA strike. Sadly, it has a lot more to do with greed and gross corporate mismanagement. The owners and higher-ups at Axium knew that the company was going under and did nothing to notify their staff, which was mostly made up of extremely hard-working people who were the sole bread-winners in their households. Hopefully, the worst is yet to come to Axium as I expect lawsuits to start pouring in from their former employees and business partners.

Thanks for this story on the strike, Perez!
The writers need to get every cent they are worth. The producers make out like robbers and bandits and the writers, the reason for every production made, end up with the short end of the carrot.
I stand in solidarity with the writers.
SAG/AFTRA actress
I am happy to finally hear you reporting on others affected by the stike other than the "poor" writers. Any writer on a network show is clearing AT LEAST six figures plus residuals. There are a lot of us out here (such as myself- wardrobe) who dont make nearly that much, nor are we collecting any residual income while all of these greedy f*ucks have a pissing contest. Thank you for posting a story about the people who are REALLY suffering.
I competely support the writer's strike. Why the fuck should the big studios/producers rake in more money then the writers, when its the writer's words they're making money off. I know thousands are currently jobless, but it shows how important the writers are.
They are taken for granted and defo deserve a higher %age on dvd sales and internet sales etc. IT'S THEIR WORDS/STORIES THAT WE ARE ALL ENGROSSED BY!
that the people have enough money to hold out while everyone else goes under. Kind of makes you wonder what they are gripping about.
I wonder how long they will make everyone else suffer for a few extra dollars.
Re: Krissy – Your brain is a "CROCK OF POO" - writers (or any talent for that matter) do not share in ANY advertising revenue on air so why would they be entitled to it from online, mobile or any other media?? Demanding ad revenue is a joke and a total stonewall to this whole process. And by the way the minimum episodic rate for writers is about $40k so if you are talking about someone who writes ONE TV EPISODE per year for work they should maybe think about pursuing another career, YOU THINK!!
Re: Lindsay Lohan – THE STUDIOS ARE PUTTING UP THE MONEY, MANY MILLIONS OF DOLLARS UP FRONT, IN ORDER TO GET THINGS PRODUCED YOU FUCKING MORON!!!! LET THE WRITERS PAY FOR PRODUCTION COSTS OR SHUT UP. IF YOU WANT TO BE ENGROSSED BY WORDS & STORIES ONLY PICK UP A FUCKING BOOK!
RE: Strike Strike Strike
You dumb skank, who cares who you stand with in solidarity with? You're probably some shitty extra with a big ego. Get over yourself you a-hole! No one cares who you stand with. Go stand on the corner where you belong!
Re: Strike Strike Strike – Um what exactly is the "short end of the carrot"?? What a surprise you're an "actress" and not a heart surgeon…
look! the foggie on the left is none other than robin williams! *gasp* …jk
to be fair it could be said both sides are greedy.
The networks won't even negotiate. If you were being bullied at school would you just give the bully your lunch money so it doesn't happen to the kid who sits next to you. You might actually try to negotiate a truce. At this point who started the fight is irrelvant and someone needs to step in and get both parties to act rationally.
who really cares other than the parties involved? they are both being greedy! get your heads out of your asses both sides and agree on something other than disagreeing. besides neither side is risking life or limb in their jobs so come on already. Try being in the military, police officer, fireman etc. When you don't know if your loved one is coming back from war that is something far greater to be concerned with than if you are getting 4 cents or 4 dollars from every DVD sold!!!
This strike is fucking stoopid!!!! Enough already. No one feels sorry for the overpaid whiney jews. I feel sorry for the people working on airlines who have taken it in the ass time and time again. Or the public school teachers. These STUPID people need a dose of fucking reality.
first.
I feel sorry for the payroll people who lost their jobs, but as for it's effect…there is none. The studios will just use another company, most banks and accounting software offer it. Definately not 'Mayjah'
As for the WGA…..screw em
I think having the Anna Nocole Sex Scene on here is in very poor taste. Geesh, have some REPECT!!!
I think having the Anna Nicole Sex Scene on here is in very poor taste. Geesh, have some REPECT!!!
I hope Hollywood crumbles even though I would miss The Office.
i come here for real gossip news and comments why do you people insist on writing "first" its really fucking annoying!!!1 here is an idea get your own blog and just write "FIRST" all over it and stop bugging us people that actually like to read intelligent items
Those fucking writers are ruining alot of other people's lives because of their outrageous greed. Julianne Moore is just the kind of self righteous bitch to back these fuckers. She's an ugly old prune with little talent. GET BACK TO WORK AND SAY THANKYOU, BOSS!!!
who cares they just hire another payroll co. no big dea!
How come, at no point, do the writers ever admit they got paid for doing the work? Its always 'we need this money' 'we want fair compensation', etc. You know what? They got paid (in some cases ALOT) to do a job and they did it. Same as you and I. That fact, however, never seems to make their press.
