I met these two in thier decorating store Downtown St. John's Newfoundland (where Steve is from) and they are super sweet nice guys. I don't think this was a ratings ploy, its always been obvious that they are gay and most people assumed they were a couple anyway. Good for them to come out and share thier story. As someone who work in television in Toronto, this was not a huge surprise. They live in a loft building where tons of television professionals live and it was never this big secret.

They've been on TV a long time and have never really discussed it. I don't think the secret was that they were gay, but that they were a couple. Now that they have their own talk show, it was time to be open about everything, because talk shows are about connecting with the hosts. It was a agreat move, and I'm sure it has been meticulously planned.
