Rosie O'Donnell's much buzzed about new memoir, Celebrity Detox, was a big bomb, unfortunately, the new issue of Entertainment Weekly is reporting.
The book sold just 55,000 copies according to Bookscan.
Compared to other celeb books in 2007: Eric Clapton (375,000 sold), Steve Martin (198,000), Slash (70,000), Rosie came in LAST.
Slash from Guns 'n' Roses sold more than Ro! Ouch.
Only ONE BOOK did worse!
Lance Bass's autobiography sold a pathetic 13,000 copies.

I dont think that you guys realize what the goverment is doing to your country and the economy. You guys are making millions of dollars for these gossip websites and celebrities are worshiped like gods, but do you ever stop to consider the people? her book may not have been a top seller, but she is sticking to her guns and expressing the thoughts of many who are to afraid to speak up for themselves. The reason her book sold so few is because she has a book swap that her bloggers participate in where she allows people who have purchased the book to send it to people who cannot afford to buy it.
This is SO gratifying on SO many levels! First of all, these celebrities get paid way too much advance money by publishers who think, despite the schlock they write (even with a ghost writer), that these books will be major cash cows for their publishing houses. Then, the books are highly publicized, again, because of the celebrity connections and media interest. The real writers out there who work for their craft and rarely get paid anything in advance or later on from royalties and who write far superior books are smirking right now, believe me.

I love Rosie. She could have sold more copies of her book if she'd of gone on Oprah and maybe she will later on. It was all too raw for her to promote it that way and be asked a lot of personal questions. The books says it all. I recommend the book to anyone because it is honest and a very good read. Really Perez you oughta read it and help promote it. All the proceeds go to Rosie's Broadway Kids charity. Go Ro, I love you girl!

Curious how the book’s sales have held up, I called Ingram, the largest wholesaler for independent book stores (and one of the only vendors that makes its sales data available to the public). They report that 33,247 copies of “Celebrity Detox” have sold. Generally, you can multiply that number by six in order to get a rough estimate of overall U.S. sales—so I’m figuring O’Donnell has moved just shy of 200,000 books. Not bad. Still, hardly enough to justify the hefty advance I’m sure Grand Central Publishing forked over.
Rosie's book bombed because she backed out of promoting it. Oprah wanted to interview her & she was supposed to do one of the morning programs. I think she wanted to nix the book altogether but couldn't because she signed the contract. Plus the book was not good. Still love her candidness though.

I love Rosie! She's probably one of the most interesting, honest, generous, artist, and funny celebs out there, and I'm one of her biggest fans, but ironically, I wont buy the book - who buts new books? I'll wait and get it second hand or borrow it from the library.
Also, she doesn't seem like the competitive ass-kissing type. You have to kiss a lot of ass and do a lot of shameless plugs to get that "top selling" book and that just isn't her style. Like a true artist, she probably was more concerned about writing the book than selling it.
