Um….staff is spread so many ways and it's not just for the happiest people on earth. Even a visit to the hospital to see a sick friend puts you at risk for contracting this disease.
People die from this.
Straight people too.
-Check online for a list of symptoms (from a decent website) and see a doctor IMMEDIATELY should you suspect exposure.
Even a simple face blemish could be caused by staph.
Serious stuff people.
—Oh, soap and water do not kill staph bacteria they merely wash it away. Anti-bac handsoaps and purel (stuff like that) do help.

Associating it specifically with sexual contact is very misleading and only further stigmatizes an illness which is fast becoming pandemic.

MRSA is nasty stuff, I would imagine that GAY men are probably more meticulous with their "manscaping" routine. Mowing down the foliage can cause microscopic cuts which can allow bacteria to enter the skin more easily. Just a guess though. By the way, if your doctor puts you on antibiotics, take the WHOLE prescription, don't just take it until you feel better. That is how this nasty bacteria developed, it became resistant to most antibiotics.

It is not MRSA it is a different strain called MDR Staph. It is even more resistant to antibiotics than MRSA. MDR is related to the MRSA strain: USA-300. Many infections are appearing on the buttocks and the penis which is leading researchers to believe that it is spread through sexual contact. The first signs of this disease were found in Boston and really has centered around the gay community there. In San Francisco the Castro and the outlying zipcodes have a 13x's instances of the infection than in the rest of the city. Of course this will spread. It does seem like all the big alphabet diseases hit the mo's first! However, there is an 81-year old women in NYC who has MDR Staph. There is great concern amongst the medical community about calling this another "gay plague." Staph is everywhere, it is just happening to hit someone in the gay community first. Also, because mo's work out more, (most-sorry Perez), dance around clubs with our shirts off rubbing into each other, and have a lot more hotter sex than our hetero friends it is showing up in us first!

My 15 daughter had it,its called MRSA.She went in the hospital to get her tonsils out and came home with this ugly dangerous staph infection.It starts off as a red pimple and gets huge.It use to be a street persons disease but that ain,t the case anymore.Honestly people gay bashing aside,this one is nasty,the worst part healthy people are getting it too.Its rampant at hospitals,but there not telling you that.FYI

My sister's boyfriend recently had this staph infection and he is NOT gay. He had it so bad they prescribed antibiotics for him to take every 6 hours. They said if he didn't improve within 24 hours they would hospitalize him. He had no fever but he was delirious. He did get better from the antibiotics but it was scary - he says he never had anything like that in his life. So if you have a small pimple or sore, and it gets infected looking, please go to a doctor!

I forgot to add, this is not just spread through sexual contact. You can get it anyway by just touching someone who has it or by using something that someone who has it just used. I came down with a staph infection recently, and I had not had any sexual contact with anyone. I had to be on antibiotics for a month, and still check for signs of a relapse..everyone be careful

okay geniuses. MRSA is NOT like AIDS. The reason that MRSA kills people is because they don't know what it is and don't get it taken care of before it gets into their system. I have had it before and I am not a gay man, I am a healthy monogamous woman. It is NOT an STD- it is spread through contact, which obviously happens during sex. It spreads like any other rash. If you have ANY kind of contact dermatitis, it can be spread through sex because you're touching, but that does NOT make it an STD. It doesn't affect you the same way that AIDS does at ALL! People are just freaking out because they say the virus is resistant to drugs. It's not resistant to ALL drugs. If people are so concerned about drug-resistant viruses, maybe they should stop vaccinating their children for every single thing like chicken pox and the freakin' FLU for God's sakes! They're putting their children at risk for antibiotic resistance in this way. Everyone relax. MRSA is a serious thing, but it's NOT AIDS and ANYONE CAN GET IT! The reason they're likening it to AIDS is because it hit a certain community. WELL guess what. It also thrives in places like locker rooms and schools and hospitals, because people are in close contact. You people are all morons.
