Not The Grammys Too!!!

We are 100% in support of the writers' strike, BUT….

The Writers Guild is now fucking with our Grammy Awards!

The WGA has announced plans to picket the ceremony.

How is the music business hurting the striking writers??? It's not!

Sure, the ceremony will air on CBS and the network is part of the big media that is refusing to negotiate with the writers. However, the WGA already said it would refuse to grant the Grammys a waiver that would allow them to use WGA members to write the show.

It's unclear how much of an impact a WGA picket line would have, but the kudocast will have to make do without the usual 10-20 actors who usually serve as presenters. Last year, for example, Quentin Tarantino, Luke Wilson, Nicolas Cage, Terrence Howard, Samuel L. Jackson, Chris Rock and David Spade appeared on the show.

This year also has a substantial number of nominated musicians who have appeared in films and on TV. Chief among them are Justin Timberlake, Queen Latifah, Tim McGraw, Beyonce, Jack White, Jon Bon Jovi, T.I. and Fantasia. Among the nominees who have historically not crossed picket lines are Bruce Springsteen, the Beastie Boys, Joni Mitchell, John Mellencamp and Steve Earle.

There is no need to picket the Grammys!

Don't be starting that drama.

      NO FUCKING WAY ! ! ! ! !!

They had better cough up a wavier and spend their time writing up some pro-writer remarks.

The show from start to finish is not 100% wonderful, but there are a few gems, and everyone sings live.

THE MTV VMA sucked last year and I've waited for the Grammys to come up and now there might not be any !

The writers & studios can both go fuck themselves, becasue they won't get another penny out of me, until they can both pull their big heads out of their tight asses !

Oh puhleeze . . . . the Grammies have sucked hard for 25 years. The music is, m ostly, lamke and for years many types of music have been totally ignored. Love or hate Steely Dan, the fact that they won the best album and had most people going "they're still together?" speaks volumes about the irrelivancy

      Shame on you Perez!!!
"We are 100% in support of the writers' strike, BUT " ; no ifs ands or buts, you either support it or not!
I hate to be so black and white about this issue but a strike is a strike and just like NBC lost money with the Globes' fiasco, now it's CBS' turn to suffer with the Grammys. Hopefully, ABC will eat dirt with the Oscars and they'll all learn to treat the WGA members with respect.

It's not that big of a deal; winners will still get their awards.

It's not that they're NOT supporting the music industry; they're not supporting the dicks who won't give them what they deserve.

What it has to do with the Grammies– About 4 media conglomerates own most of the music, TV, and movie production in the US (and probably the world). They're just going after the parent companies all the way down to their roots.

    21. Melissa says – reply to this

      121

I hate the stupid actors who attend the Grammys anyways. Maybe this year it will be all musicians for once. The writers need to stop making side deals with Tom Cruise and David Letterman while trying to take down the Grammys. The only people they're hurting now are the viewers. Maybe we just won't watch their scripted crap anymore. Then they'll be out of work forever.

Initially, I was all in support of the strike, but this is getting so ridiculous. Television is being affected, Broadway was affected, and now, tons of awards shows. Entertainment is such a major part of our society. This is really messing things up. Get this solved, already….

It makes sense Perez baby. As a singer/songwriter with music on prime time and cable shows I don't see a dime from the thousands of plays those same episodes get online…..and you can bet everytime you watch an episode of your favorite show online its interupted with "limited commercials" by MAJOR sponsors who pay big bucks to be there. Look, our music is already out online for free, people don't buy records anymore and really, the only way an indie artist can see a reasonable check in the mail is through licensing…..but every contract we sign excludes internet reruns of those same episodes…..support the fabulous indie artists you love so much all the way Perezito! educate your readers on this…

Re: Ruth – The problem is that the WGA is totally unorganized. I am a supporter of unions and supported the WGA, at first, but now the WGA just seems hell bent on keeping the entertainment industry at a standstill while not really doing a lot to come to the table. A LOT of people are losing money because of this strike, including grips, makeup people, etc., and now that is spilling over to the people who work on award shows. Now it just makes the WGA look spiteful and selfish, and that makes unions look bad and strikes look like a temper tantrum. Take for example the strikes of theater workers right before the Christmas season. They did it right before peak money season, they had a clear agenda, were willing to come to the table and negotiate, and it ended quickly. The fact that most of the late night shows are back on is proof that people are giving up and the WGA has lost its momentum, which is really sad because they had a valid point and I am all about sticking it to the big studios. The WGA needs to pull it together, because pretty soon no one is going to be paying the writers anything when TV is all reality shows and gameshows.

Because all the banter that the "celebrities" use during to introduce people and announce winners are all written by hard working writers and comics. Yes, its not always funny or interesting, that's the network editing it, but for a lot of writers, award shows is a great source of income.

GET OVER IT ALREADY! Settle this strike and move on. Most Americans can sympathize for a while; however, the longer it drags on, the more it seems to be a "gimme gimme" scenario. The vast majority of Americans don't work in Hollywood, don't make this kind of money, and don't have a tolerance level for this nonsense - we're too busy figuring out how to stretch stagnant salaries to keep up with soaring fuel costs, ever-increasing grocery bills ($6/gallon milk where I live, and going up), etc etc - you know, REAL life issues. How many more dollars YOU make does not interest us at all. Baseball players, football players, writers . . . NO ONE is irreplaceable, people.

There is no good t.v. and never has been for that matter. If you cared so much about writing maybe you woulod be working for pbs instead of want more money. Its all about the money and greed, hope you writers all go bust. No never did anything worth while anyway. No one cares about these corporate award shows anyawy.
