R.I.P.

characters_onesheet.jpg

After 12 years on Broadway, one of the most influential musicals of the '90s, Rent, is closing.

The last show will be June 1st.

Sad.

It'd be awesome if the original cast members came back for the final performance though.

as if…"Rent" actually stand for "low-RENT version of 'La Boheme' dumbed down to mental retardation levels and populated with overwrought Broadways types who MUST belt every song out at the top of their lungs (being in tune is for off-Broadway!!)"

This show is CRAP - sorry, just because generation of slack jawed suburbanites and liked it does not mean it's good, remember "Cats"?

Wow showing my age here but I was one of the 20 dollar ticket people in the first and second season half a dozen times. Great memories of how electrifying this show was and how groundbreaking and different. It will be missed. Nothing has ever come close to the appeal and style it has.

My friend texted me at 130am upset about it. I can't believe it. I've seen Rent 4 times…and its definately one of my favs on Broadway. However, there are so many Rentheads out there…so it may be gone…but we're still going to be driving around blasting it. :-)

    an american classic
AIDS was still killing people (no cocktail) when this first opened.
A play that respected trans people, gay people, and non-yuppies - was and is very rare.

HAIR / RENT / SPRING AWAKENING - the best of Broadway.

I am so sad to see that RENT is going to be closing down. That was the best show I have ever seen, both on the road and in NYC. That is such a great show to wake people up in our society, it is such a shame. It will certainly be very missed! =( Would be great if the original cast did come back, I got to see when Anthony and Adam came back this past fall and the performance was just out of this world amazing!
