After 12 years on Broadway, one of the most influential musicals of the '90s, Rent, is closing.
The last show will be June 1st.
Sad.
It'd be awesome if the original cast members came back for the final performance though.

Wow, that reall is sad. Rent had a major influence in my life. I still listen to the soundtract all the time. Maybe I should make a trip to NY before it's too late.
En wie geeft een drol om dit nutteloze nieuws?

I hope the musical was better than the movie b/c the movie sucked, I couldn't make it through the entire thing. Bleh.

Ah, I didn't know about this - what a shame! RENT is one of the most influential musicals of our time and it's truly one of the best musicals in a very long time. Broadway will miss this legendary musical!
thank gawd!!! more like the most annoying musical of the 90's, good riddance to bad theatre!!!!
Sad! Very influential indeed.
Who cares
Who gives a flying FUUCCCCCCCCCCCCCCCCCK! GIVE ME DA GOSSIP perez!!! Who fucking cares!!!! What's going on with Brit?? Has she popped out 12 more babies yet? Give us the scoop!!!!

Im seeing it in March…its amazing!
NOOOOOO! I'll never get to see it now! That sucks.
RENT…you will be missed.
But yeah. that would be pretty damn awesome if the original cast came back. Anthony Rapp rocks.

LOL

That is the saddest news I've heard all week. This is more tragic than the f*** up Britney.

Sad?? Really?? I don't know.. I'm a big fat faghag, but I saw this play and it was a snooze-fest to me.
first
Thank God. What a depressing fuck of a show.
omg no.. i was gonna go to broadway in september for the first time and REALLY wanted to go see orginal Rent…….
What a fucking boring show. If they all got a part-time job they could pay their fucking rent. What a dumb concept for a show!
no way.
that sucks. i'm seeing it again then.
Umm…it's closing on the west end moron.
Sad.
I never had a chance to see it
It was one that i always wanted to, i am a renthead without actually seeing it in its natural state, on broadway
Why on earth would they close it???
It is a great musical and me and all my friends want to go to see it soon but
WTF!

as if…"Rent" actually stand for "low-RENT version of 'La Boheme' dumbed down to mental retardation levels and populated with overwrought Broadways types who MUST belt every song out at the top of their lungs (being in tune is for off-Broadway!!)"
This show is CRAP - sorry, just because generation of slack jawed suburbanites and liked it does not mean it's good, remember "Cats"?
how can people be sad about this show. it's agent and boring. let's leave the 90's in the 90's
good riddance - it's boring whiny crap
NOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOO!!
rent is my most favorite.
=(
Rent was the first musical I saw when I was only 16
….I'm sad to see it go.
They should've paid their rent.
I'm devestated! I've seen RENT 3 times (Toronto, Nashville, NYC) and RENT Remixed 1 time (not nearly as good as original), it's my favourite ever. There's nothing like seeing it live!! I'll never get to see it again:(
Oh my God I just saw it for the first time this weekend!!! I'm so glad that I did because I won't be in NY again for awhile. This is so sad…its such an amazing show.
ONE MORE PERFORMANCE BY THE ORIGINAL CAST WITH THE BEST VOICES WOULD BE SPECTACULAR TO SAY THE LEAST!!!!!!!!!
they should totally get all the original cast members NOT the movie ones….idina menzel, taye diggs, wilson jermaine heredia, adam pascal, anthony rapp, jesse l martin, daphne rubin vega, fredi walker….back when rent was actually GOOD
Wow showing my age here but I was one of the 20 dollar ticket people in the first and second season half a dozen times. Great memories of how electrifying this show was and how groundbreaking and different. It will be missed. Nothing has ever come close to the appeal and style it has.
My friend texted me at 130am upset about it. I can't believe it. I've seen Rent 4 times…and its definately one of my favs on Broadway. However, there are so many Rentheads out there…so it may be gone…but we're still going to be driving around blasting it.

That's sad. Great show and I can't imagine the broadway landscape w/o it.
an american classic
AIDS was still killing people (no cocktail) when this first opened.
A play that respected trans people, gay people, and non-yuppies - was and is very rare.
HAIR / RENT / SPRING AWAKENING - the best of Broadway.
the most influencial musical of the last 50 years..perez this is only 1 of 3 musicals to ever win a pulitzr prize…and changed the way the american theater does its business and changed the entire sound of broadway

That sucks. I love Rent! They original cast should do some charity shows for Aids.
Oh My god - a single tear just ran down my face…..just so you know…the 7pm show for the Final performance on June 1st is sold out….they have a 2pm thought….
you should have used the broadway poster, not the movie poster
this is heartbreaking. Must get back out to New York soon.
That depresses me. I didn't get to see Rent when I was in New York and now I never will. *sniffle sniffle*
I am so sad to see that RENT is going to be closing down. That was the best show I have ever seen, both on the road and in NYC. That is such a great show to wake people up in our society, it is such a shame. It will certainly be very missed! =( Would be great if the original cast did come back, I got to see when Anthony and Adam came back this past fall and the performance was just out of this world amazing!
The ORIGINAL cast returning?!?!!? Yeah right a bunch of 45 year olds returning to play a group of unemployed 20 year olds bitching because the landlord who has let them live rent free for a year is going to start charging them rent…yeah, we all want to see that.
this show was amazing with the original cast
this show was amazing with the original cast
I watched the show in 2004. It wasnt good. After the show, I wished I could get my money back. Good that it's closing.

NOOOOOO!!! I must get to NY before June
This saddens me greatly.
I think the problem lately has been the casting choices.
Current cast SUCKS. Big time. They could have salvaged the run if they'd stopped casting pseudo-celebs and started using real broadway performers again.
awww, I'm sad! But luckily I got to see it on broadway.. I'll have to try and see it one more time. so sad.
I'm so depressed
Finally. That show has outstayed its welcome.
Time to make room for better shows. it's the same thing over and over with this show! it goes no where.
the only reason it did well is because jonathan larson died the day t opened.
Awwwww that's too bad, I've always wanted to see it on Broadway
And you're right, it'd be awesome to see the original cast reunited
NOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOO!!!
you know it would be great if the original cast would come back for a big finale… it would also be good if your fat ass would have posted a picture of the original cast… yours has the cast of the movie. pbbbbttttththt!!!
THANK GOD. MAYBE IT'S FINALLY CLOSING B/C THE CHEAP PRODUCERS KEPT PUTTING AMERICAN IDOL LOSERS IN THE CAST ALONG WITH RENT-HEADS WHO COULDN'T SING FOR SHIT.
I'm really sad. :[
I've always wanted to see it.
Instead, I had to see Hairspray. :\
