After 12 years on Broadway, one of the most influential musicals of the '90s, Rent, is closing.

The last show will be June 1st.

Sad.

It'd be awesome if the original cast members came back for the final performance though.

I MEET ONE LIITLE SHORT GAY GUY THAT PLAYS THE DRAGQUEEN IN FIRE ISLAND ONCE. WE ALL JUMPED THE BIG FENCE TO GET IN A CLUB WITH OUT PAYING! WE WERE ALL KICKED OUT BY A BIG FAT LESBO, THEN WE SLEEPED ON THE FLOOR IN THE POST OFFICE THAT WAS OPEN 24HRS. TILL THE FIRST FERRY CAME EARLY THAT MORNING TO TAKE US BACK TO NYC! GOOD TIMES, GOOD TIMES! I WILL ALWAYS REMEMBER THAT SUMMER IN FIRE ISLAND!

for all of you bitching about the poster being of the movie and not of the original cast….. only two members of the original cast, weren't in the movie…
can't believe nobody noticed that… sheesh..

Thank God. That musical is a piece of shit! i don't get why people like it so much. The songs are HORRIBLE and the story is so ridiculous. At least, the movie version was awful. I really can't believe people like this musical. There are so many great musicals out there that deserve more recognition than this pretentious crap.

      Re: Missy Marie

UUhhhh……..6 of the 8 in the picture ARE the original cast

I loved this play, saw it 3 times. To those of you who say it was boring, go back to watching The Sound of Music. RENT was one of the BEST musicals ever on Broadway. Everyone who can should go see it before it goes away, You will be glad you did.

      I'm so upset.
I wish the OBC would come back
and I wish I could get tickets since I just about live for rent.
Too bad they're so expensive…better start saving now.

    26. RentHead says – reply to this

      226

That poster is for the movie version, with most of the original cast members — who were all too old for the movie. That was the most disappointing part of the movie. Still loved the songs & I'm sorry it's ending on Broadway, but it had a good run.

      NOOOOOOO!!!!!!!!!
okay, I may comment on the stupid Britney Posts
BUT THIS IS FAR MORE IMPORTANT!!! THAT RUINS MY LIFE AMBITION!!
As an aspiring musical theatre Thespian RENT has CHANGED MY LIFE as it has to many others, and it's my dream to play Maureen

I'm sure Jonathon Larson is still proud.

      but NOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOO

OBC should DEFINITELY come back!!! They're so HAWT!!

Hey Perez, just to let you know its a lie. The producers of rent have announced this as a plaw to get ticket sales rising. They are closing the show New Years Eve 2008. June 1st they are going to bring in a stunt cast. This cast will not be the original cast from what I hear. I have heard of 3 people who will most likely take part in the final cast but Perez Email me and I will tell you myself.

That show was the biggest piece of crap ever to hit Broadway. I saw it with the original cast and it sucked big time. I've seen better production values in a middle school musical. They mumbled and fumbled their way through the entire show. I couldn't understand half of what they were saying since they were talking to the back of the stage. Hello theater 101? That play wouldn't have lasted 1 day on off off off broadway let alone on Broadway for 11 years had the writer been alive. Good Riddance - maybe they can put a good show in its place.

Re: CHELSEA – omg have u ever seen RENT on broadway or the movie?? probably not and if you did you would think different about what you wrote. Jonathon Larson is a man who wrote the best musical on broadway and died the night before it opened off-broadway. he never got to see the success of RENT. learn your facts of RENT and tell me different you whore!

THIS IS SO SAD :( RENT REALLY CHANGED MY LIFE AND IS MY ALL TIME FAVORITE MUSICAL. BROADWAY WILL NEVER BE THE SAME AGAIN. I GIVE PROPS TO THE LATE JONATHAN LARSON.

and i totally agree that the original cast should star in the final performance that would be amazing.

      Re: Ricky

Spring Awakening is a flaming piece of crap.
They should've produced the play instead of warping it into a musical.
P.S. If it wasn't for Rent breaking the boundaries of Broadway, your precious Spring Awakening NEVER would've happened. Just saying.
