Dr. Phil has been receiving a lot of flack for his visit to Unfitney Spears at the hospital, and he's not sorry, bitches.
The only thing he's sorry about? Talking about the visit after the fact.
"Was it helpful to the situation? Regrettably, no. It was not, and I have to acknowledge that and I do," he told his audience at a taping of his show on Thursday, which will air on Monday. "I definitely think if I had it to do over again, I probably wouldn't make any statement at all. Period."
McGraw tells USA Today he visited the trainwreck as "a friend and ally of the family," not as a psychologist. He stopped practicing years ago and is not licensed in California.
Asked if he would make the same visit again, at the request of concerned parents, Dr. Phil says, "How do you not?"

You know, he is not a licensed psych but he does help a lot of people. Not only the guests he has on his show, but the millions who are watching. People learn from other's trials and take something from his straight forward logic and problem solving skills. I really appreciate his insight. His books have been helpful to many as well.

Considering that he used to work for the legal system, that's how he met Oprah when the meat people took her to court, what he did with Spears was beyond stupid and self-serving. The SPEARS family planned to have an intervention via Dr. Phil show but Brit got hauled off on a gurney prior to the intervention ever happening. So then the Spears family thru Dr. Phil under the bus. He probably "got real" with them and they retracted by throwing another spokewhore (today show) under the bus. Dr. Phil's statement was true, he was concerned, the situation is serious and she needs help. After speaking to her he probably realized a TV intervention wouldnt work.
As for the license to practice in CA, he DOESNT have a practice, why would he need a business license or anything else for that matter? It still doesnt take away from the fact he has a doctorates in his field of study, which means HE IS A DOCTOR PEOPLE!! Re: Like Duh? – When you get a Ph.D in psychology, you're not automatically entitled to counsel patients. You have to put in supervised clinical hours and pass an exam in order to get a LICENSE to see patients in a counseling situation. His doctorate could be in mathematics for all it's worth as a "psychologist." He wrote in his own book that he didn't like seeing patients, which is why he opened the jury consultant practice in Texas where he met Oprah. He only agreed to start seeing "patients" again because it meant big bucks in his pockets, more plastic surgery for his wife, and the ability to get his kids better positions than they would have gotten on their own when they started out in their fields!
Legally, he had NO RIGHT to visit Britney at the hospital. Not even a LICENSED psychologist would have had the legal right to visit her without her permission, even if she had already been discharged by the hospital. It's called STALKING and trespassing, and that's all Dr. Shill is, a stalker of people's misery to advance his own ego and bank account.

#67, he needs to be licensed in CA if he gives any advice that deals with psychological issues, regardless of whether he gives that advice in a hospital, a clinic, an office, or on TV. It's the law. I am a licensed therapist in CA and have been screened for competency and ethics as well as screened for criminal history. I also have to continue my education to remain licensed. That's to protect the public from someone who is neither competent or ethical. Dr. Phil hasn't met any of those standards. He should not have a forum for his views which are intended to amuse, and don't meet any ethical standard of therapy that a licensed therapist must meet. Besides, all of my (licensed) therapist friends and I agree that the guy's therapy skills really suck.
Ummn…he is a real doctor. He's just not licensed to practice in California. He was however licensed in Texas. He is not a fraud. Just like lawyers, if you pick up and move to another state, in most cases you need to take that state's bar examination to practice in that state. If they never do, that does not mean that they are no longer lawyers…they are simply not an "attorney" in the new state.

He isn't licensed anywhere anymore - and I believe it is because he married a former patient (his wife, Robyn) which is a MAJOR ethics no no. After counseling someone, you have quite a bit of control over them. Dating a patient is hugely unethical.

I think we all forget tbat when Dr. Phil first met Oprah she was involved with the Texas beef lawsuit which it appeared she was being misdirected and sucked dry by hangers on.
