I've never actually seen this show before, and I've been based in LA for much of the past six years, but I am back in the UK now before I get a new US visa.
It reminds me of a lot of places I go to when I am in Hollywood and obviously I know most of the places featured in the show. The girls are fucking annoying, I have to say. These people are parasites in LA and generally the most irritating people you would want to come across, but they are all like ants in that town - fucking everywhere, but there is a way to avoid people like that and actually find normal people who live in LA, too!
LA 'A-List Party King' Brent Bolthouse is on the screen right now. This is one of the reasons why I will be watching this show, even though it's pretty bad!

honestly, did anyone ever think this was real?! i thought the concept was from the beginning "having actors act like it's a reality show"….. but then again, laguna beach and the hills never really were on the media here (germany), exept for the episodes being aired, so i don't know nothing about the "actors" and their "private lifes".

America and honesty doesn't seem to go hand in hand. In America the media and most part of society doesn't seem to give a rat's ass about honesty. If people think manipulation of the truth can create positive outcome for them, they don't give it a second thought and go for it! Money and power will always be higher on the list of priorities than honesty and integrity in the States … again I am sure there are people who do feel differently. I am speaking in general here!

It is because the show Man versus Wild got in alot of shit in the UK for pretending to be real while the lead guy was "acting" like he slept outside all night they had receipt copies that he was in a hotel. They are not too fond of faked reality it is deception. So that controversy set the precident for other "reality" shows I guess. Man versus Wild has a similar disclaimer here in the US too now. He even voice overs the parts where he is pretending saying it is how it would be done IF he was in the situation.

The Channe 4 UK website does not say anything at all about The Hills.
The Hills has been airing for a while now on MTV ONE (UK).
It looks like new episodes have begun airing just yesterday, but since the seasons are delayed in UK the british fans of the show just go to MTV Canada's website and watch the episodes there before they air.

Im from the UK and watched the Hills on MTV, just finished watching season 3, think its a great show, why are people bothered if its fake or not, aslong as its slightly entertaining . Also alot of US shows come up with that disclaimer over here such as Sunset Tan.

It already is popular in the UK. It's one of MTVs highest rated shows…Channel 4 are airing the first season a year or so after MTV and TMF have broadcast it (without the disclaimers).
I was actually watching it earlier on Channel 4 - the disclaimer made me chuckle, but I still enjoyed the show.
