Bob Newhart Show alum Suzanne Pleshette passed away on Saturday.

She was 70.

Pleshette's passing was attributed to respiratory failure. She died more than a year after she underwent chemotherapy for lung cancer.

Kids, PLEASE don't smoke.

We can't stress that enough!

I grew up watching "The Bob Newhart show" and "Newhart" and I loved it at the end of "Newhart" when Bob woke up in bed with her and the show turned out to be a dream. Classic. She will be missed, as is her late husband Tom Poston, who died last year. He was on a show where playedan old ex-clown that lived in a closet and I would be laughing so hard because all he had to do was enter a scene and just have the funniest expression on his face. He wouldnt have to say a word. Real comic talent. RIP Suzanne and Tom.

As for lung cancer… don't smoke, get you homes and businesses checked for radon gas, eliminate asbestos exposure and reduce your alcohol intake. And make sure you get enough Vitamin D, 1000 mg a day with an upper limit of 2000 mg a day. According to the Canadian Cancer Society, it aids in cancer prevention.

Perez, on a serious note…I'm all for jumping on the 'no smoking' bandwagon, but it is NOT the only cause of lung cancer. My father is dying of lung cancer and he has NEVER smoked in his life. Medical experts are finding more and more cases like this, and are blaming it on all kinds of pollution and carcinogens we haven't even fully studied yet.

1. Where did any of you get the idea that Suzanne Pleshette hated Blacks? I never heard any such thing, and I don't believe it for a nanosecond.

2. Her voice WAS naturally low, but as time passed, she went from singing tenor to singing bass. And when she was younger, she was drop-dead gorgeous.

3. Those of you who keep harping on the fact that even non-smokers (such as Dana Reeve) get lung cancer, are nitwits. Go right ahead and "smoke, smoke, smoke those cigarettes", because when you have one foot in the grave from doing so, I will laugh my ass off!

To all those who keep saying you do not have to smoke to get lung cancer, get real! You are probably smokers who are in serious denial. Yes, some people who do not smoke get lung cancer but more than 90% have either smoked or been exposed to secondhand smoke. It's like saying people can get killed in an auto accident so there's no reason to wear seatbelts or use car seats. It's sad the lengths people with addictions will go to to justify their disgusting behavior.

Suzanne Pleshette was a beautiful and talented actress who probably started to smoke at a time when the dangers were not yet known. Hopefully, her sad passing will bring some much needed awareness to those in denial about the dangers of smoking.

On a more serious note, I took care of my uncle for 11 months while he was sick with lung cancer until he died. He smoked for 40 years and quite 20 years ago, but the damage was too severe to his lungs already. I am actually amazed in this day and age with all our knowledge when I see anybody actually light up a cig—–it really does amaze me. I know it's not my place, so I bite my tongue, but my 1st instinct is really to walk over and start to relay the story of taking off work for a year to take care of my uncle while he died, and what that was like.

I have always been a fan of Suzanne. She was a beautiful talented actress. I am sorry to hear of her passing. I always wanted to look like her growing up. Yes I am old, but not 70. I too would like to thank you Perez for making the comment of not smoking. Although it is not the only cause of lung cancer, it is the number one cause. I remember in high school in my biology class the teached brought in the heart and a lung of a chronic smoker. It forever turned me against even trying to smoke one. The lung was nothing less than charcoal. I do know that if you stop in time, your lung will be able to restore some of it's former self. I hope the young people come to their senses regarding this addiction.

Suzanne Pleshette was a CLASS ACT. If the worst thing she did in her life was to smoke, I'm okay with that. I loved her as Emily on the Bob Newhart show, and most of the men in my late thirties-early forties age group thought she was THE BOMB. Perez, I am glad you recognized her, but I wish you hadn't added the snarky comments about lung cancer. It's akin to mentioning the dangers of unprotected homosexual anal sex when someone has died of AIDS.

To "Are You Kidding Me": I believe Suzanne Pleshette would want not want her death to be in vain, so she would have supported our "anti-smoking commercials" (as you put it).

Health care costs are spiralling out of control, and one of the major reasons for that is that people smoke and have all kinds of health problems because of it. I'm tired of having to pay for other people's stupidity, but apparently you don't give a rat's ass about that.

I lost my mom 3 years ago to lung cancer- she was only 56. As a former smoker myself, I can tell you it's easy to quit and it's the best thing you'll ever do. Why pay to inhale poison?!?! Thanks Perez for speaking out against smoking! You work in an industry where even "clean-cut" celebs like Katherine Heigl get away with puffing poison. Keep up the good work!

To Me too: The insanity WON'T stop, and here's why: We live in a "Me First" society where most everyone does whatever the hell THEY want to do, and to hell with the REST of us. Thus, we have exorbitant health care costs; crime that is spiralling completely out of control; preventable deaths caused by drunk drivers, drug use and cigarettes; and the general mayhem that is the result of narcissistic behaviors.

None of this will change and, in fact, will continue to worsen until every individual on the face of the earth realizes that his or her actions have an effect on everyone else. But human nature being what it is, I'm not optimistic about the chances that we'll ever see something like that, especially when kids see people like Britney Spears as their role models.
