My family is mixed blood Native American and I keep my young sons hair long because in the native culture a man/boy wears his hair long to HONOR his women relatives, and it is an extension of his SOUL. Kate is doing just fine. She is following her Jewish roots and it is a choice for her to make. STOP SHOVING GENDER BOUNDARIES DOWN OUR THROATS. Just because he looks like a girl…. my son is 6, has long hair, is drop dead beautiful and is mistaken as a girl daily. He has learned to help educate the ignorant by telling them "I am not a girl, I am an Indian boy". And if you watched him for longer than a second you would see BOY BEHAVIOR and BOY CLOTHES.
