Sir David Beckham has just updated his blog about his trip to Sierra Leone.
He writes:
"THURSDAY JAN 24
I’ve just returned from visiting Sierra Leone in Africa as part of my role as UNICEF Goodwill Ambassador. I was honoured to be invited and though I saw many problems and issues to tackle, I was heartened by the incredible and selfless work UNICEF and other agencies are doing on the ground to help. I was also humbled by the people of Sierra Leone who despite the problems they face, keep smiling and are hopeful for the future. They made me feel extremely welcome in their country and I will never forget the experience.
One in four children die in Sierra Leone before they reach the age of five and many of the diseases that children suffer can be prevented. I genuinely hope that by visiting the affected areas and spending time with some of the people there, it will draw the world’s attention towards the problems children face not only in Sierra Leone but similar situations across the world. UNICEF has been around along long time and many many celebs take part in UNICEF so what are you going to do to help these children David Beckham.
What has been done over there already with all the donations. People are aware of UNICEF and people do donate. I am sure those fancy expensive glasses on your face would have paid for a clothing wardrobe for a whole summer for one child.

It is awesome that he is taking his time to bring attention to people who can use some help. I'm no fan of soccer or Beckman in particular, but I am a fan of each person using their talents to help where and how they are able to. I think the Goodwill ambassador program is super, if nothing else it helps Americans find places like Sierra Leone on a map.
I don't donate everything I own to the poor, that isn't smart. Helping out where and when you can is. Go Becks!

We don't know if he did or didn't or how much he donated to UNICEF. He is a goodwill ambassador, which is more than a lot of rich people are doing, and negative comments seem rude and unfounded when people are "guessing" as to his motives and how much money he gives.

Its great what he's doing! I am going to Africa in the near future to help the children as well. The more people who are willing to help the better. They have to live with so little, and yet appear to be so thankful and happy for what they have. I mean his lifestyle is incredible and well most can only imagine having the amount of money he does. Im glad he is doing something good with his money! All stars should do this.
