We're Waiting for Rosie, the Musical!

Filed under: Wacky, Tacky & True

There is an opera that has been created about U.S. talk show host Jerry Springer, and none other than Harvey Keitel is playing the title character!

The opera is playing at NYC's Carnegie Hall this coming week, and The New York Times just wrote this article on the wacky show.

Saw this show in London a couple years ago. Absolutely fricking brilliant. I hope the American version can live up to the hilarity of the one across the pond. I still laugh just thinking about it!

This opera played in London for a few years. It was even videotaped with David (Starsky & Hutch) Soul as Jerry Springer.

This show is not new. It played in London for a while. It's even shown on PBS and other similar networks before. It's funny for about 30 minutes, and then it just keeps going, and going, and going for like 3 hours. It also takes itself WAY too seriously. It's really more disturbing and eventually annoying than anything else - and I'm a huge opera and musical fan!!

I saw it in London 3.5 years ago. I had been warned it was overly offensive, yet I found rather unoffensive. It was amusing though.

didnt jerry springer the opera premier in the west end about 3 years ago?! i thought this was meant to be the LATEST celebrity gossip! Its already been shown on the BBC in England and angered all the elderly complainers!

This is not new. I saw it several years ago in London. It is funny as hell and I would sure want to see it again. With guests like "chick with a dick" and "diaper man" it certainly does not get old and Jerry's "inner valkarie" is a hoot.

This has not been shown on PBS in the US as of yet. You are wrong. It was shown on the BBC in the UK.

oh Perez.. the opera based on the TV Show Jerry Springer has been out since '04.. thanks for the late-breaking news..

    34. Robert says – reply to this

      34

Hate to say this, but this is very old news. It won a slew of major theater awards in Britain in 2003/04 and has since planned (but failed to receive enough money) for two Broadway productions. It's also called an opera even though musical is a far more appropriate descriptor.

They make musicals out of anything these days. How about one about Michael Jackson's toilet habits?
      Sure it would sell well.

Don't hold your breath waiting for anything Rosie is doing
Seems like her and long time gal pal/wife will be splitting
I have a feeling Rosie is going to charge her with stealing $$, like her frind Kathy G did to get out of large alimony

Rosie in her blog this week talked about how she now has to keep tabs of her $$
Her brother gave her that advice, but before Kellie was the family banker

That would be a fun Divorce Court case

this news is almost 5 years old perez. It opened on west end in april 2003. I saw it 4 years ago as well as owning the cd. there is also a dvd version too.

at the theater it was at in seven dials they have toilet paper in the loo with the sheet music on it.

but i imagine a 2 night new york debut will be very successful. considering that even though it is written by english it is more a staple of american culture.

'fucked up the ass with barbed wire' - is a repeated line from one of the songs, great stuff. oh and 'what a cunt, what a cunt, what a fucking fucking cunt', is another, hehe

I saw this show in London in 2004 and it was amazing! Absolutely hysterical but also really smart. I have a role of toilet paper I took from the theater's bathroom. It has the lyrics to one of the songs…'Your Jerry Springer Moment.'
