NOT TRUE! I grew up with the English and spent all my time resisting the alteration of my accent. When I go to Australia, I DO NOT pick up the Aus accent. I stay true to my vowels and my pronunciation, bc despite all the shit thats been going down with our foreign policy, deep down I am PROUD to be an American. Joss should be proud to be an Englishwoman. That is all.

dude that is so true… i've moved a few times, to places that were totally far & different from each other, and you do easily pick up the way people talk. it's not so much as taking on a whole accent, it's just the way certain words are said. i lived in "the valley" of texas for a few months, and i would catch myself speaking with a slight mexican accent from time to time while i was there. i would also say the word "like" a lot more often lmao. and i was only there for a few months!

I totally get what she's saying, because whenever my husband is around any of his friends who have a spanish accent, he also seems to pick it up. It's very slight, but I can hear it and it cracks me up. I also had a friend in high school who spent a summer in Alabama and DEFINITELY came back with a southern drawl. We're from San Diego.
It's kind of how you can tell when people are really close friends. They have common phrases and words that they use, or ways of saying those words. And it comes out more when you're all together.
Anyway, I saw Joss in concert and she was not only incredibly good, she was really sweet and funny.

I am peruvian leaving in Germany for a long long time, and happy to say that after 15 years, I still having my accent, and when am I back home I maybe cann't remember some words, but I can't and will never speak like a spanish-speaking german! You can't forget your mother languange. The problem with this girl is that she got success and then looks like it was quite embarrasing for her to be english and wanted to be and look more american. Average people in the British Isles criticize Americans a little but don't actually hate. It wasn't just an American accent that pissed people of - it was because she came on stage at the Brits coked off her face, talking rubbish in an American accent and then tried to upstage Amy Winehouse by singing part of '"rehab" accapella. Only problem was, Winehouse sounded good, Joss sounded shite.

It's not so much that the English media are hating on her (although they probably are now), it's just since she 'made' it in the US and got lots of recognition, she sort of bypassed the usual "she's made in Britain" hype. The one time she was able to pull that Brit-girl-done-good act would have been the Brits when she was clearly on planet Joss, and I guess a lot of media who rated her when she was promoting the first album and the "Brit abroad" ident couldn't get with the massive jump to diva international when they'd seen nothing in between to justify it.
I guess it's difficult for her in terms of fitting into British music buying market compared to the American market, but I guess people find it hard to identify where she's going as an artist and how she fits in when she' up against "tru- Blu Brits" like Amy Wino, KT Tunstall and Lily Allen.
